The TV Thread

Second season of Orange is the New Black launched today.

Anyone else into this?

I have to admit to being a bit of a TV/movie-phile.  I generally buy Blu-Rays when there's a movie I want to see rather than just watching it on PPV or In-demand (I like to collect).

Premium TV has really been leading a creative resurgence in recent years, probably dating back to The Sopranos.  Its nice that Netflix has become a legitimate competitor for HBO (which puts out some really great shows like Sopranos, Deadwood, Boardwalk Empire, True Blood etc).

House of Cards was tremendous.

While cable channels like AMC are getting in on the act, I annoys me a bit.  The Walking Dead would be so much better on Netflix or HBO where they could truly appeal to adults (HBO passed on The Walking Dead when Thomas Jane was attached).

As for Orange, it took me a few episodes to get into last season but Im looking forward to banging out a few episodes tonight.

As an aside, for you Trekies, it was recently the 20th anniversary of the finale of TNG, one of the best Series' Finales in TV history.

I stopped watching in the 3rd season, I think? I still want to continue it but I've been short on time.

If you find the time, I'd say definitely finish it. The final episode was fantastic.

Watching two excellent new series, "White House Plumbers" with Woody Harrelson and Justin Theroux, and "Waco: The Aftermath", the follow-up to the Waco series that came out in 2018, which was also very good.  A lot of familiar faces in both series, very well cast.

so I'm hearing that the Futurama revival is going to be on Disney+....and yet the service is pulling some of it's own titles for strange "Strategic thinking related reasons"

here's a list of titles that got removed Howard (the doc about Howard Ashman) will not be among them now due to popular demand

thoughts on the Succession series finale? Definitely not how I thought it was going to go, but as with the entire series, it was executed so well. Hell of a 90 minutes...

I loved it. I feel like it ended the only way it could, to be honest.

Please no spoilers. I finally got caught up but likely won't get the finally in until the weekend.

No spoilers, but I was really surprised that ___________________ ended up "taking the throne". But the sibling love at mom's house contradicted with the scrap at the office seemed just so brilliantly perfect. And that final scene, overlooking the ocean..... heartbreaking.

Meh, I feel ripped off... very unhappy with the final episode.

Feels like I wasted a bunch of time on this series.

Sorry @Noeller, I just felt really let down with that ending.

The entire series was building to that point, and it was totally anticlimactic.

also, totally called the ending. Told my wife 3 episodes into this last season who would "win" and what roles some of the peripheral characters would.

I also called the "twist". Including the reason...

So yeah- I felt let down with that last episode.

Why so confused @Noeller?

I felt it was a good journey, and I feel they didn't stick the landing.

I loved Succession, brilliantly written and fantastically brought to life by the actors but of course I was mad all the way thru it with how crappy these characters were in their own gross way and how closely it probably resembles some real life gross humans we currently have walking this planet.

I know I suck the fun out of everything.

So sad that there will be no more new Barry's.  The last season felt rushed (but entertaining).  A great way to go out.

I loved the final season. My goodness is Anthony Carrigan an absolute delight.... and Stephen Root doing Stephen Root things, just dominating virtually every scene he's in. Hader proving yet again that he's a genius who is so much more than what he showed on SNL. He's a real cinephile and is currently working on a horror movie, which (and I'm not into horror movies) I have no doubt is going to be incredible. When Guillermo Del Toro is singing your praises and willing to pop in for a cameo, you know you're doing things right...

Stumbled upon "Smartless:On the Road" which is a 5 episode doc. following the road tour of the popular Smartless podcast hosted by Will Arnett, Jason Bateman and Sean Hayes, interesting guests and a lot of easy laughs.

Interesting to discover Will Arnett has some real MB. roots even though he grew up in T.O., both his parents were originally from MB. and he spent summers in the province with his grandparents growing up.  He also mentioned working 4 months replacing sewer lines under Wpg. streets, so he must of spent time in the city as an adult.  His father was a corporate lawyer, who served as the president and CEO of Molson Breweries from 1997 to 2000, so at no point was Will ever slumming it.

Also discovered Jason Bateman is a bit of a freak.

Agreed, he has come a long way from Milton Waddams and his little red swingline stapler.

That was an excellent ending to a great show.

Watched the final episode of Ted Lasso last night, likely need to watch it again and let it settle in before I really understand how I feel about.

Been on a Mr. Bean kick lately haha. Finished the show last night, now on to the movies.

Just finished The Kominsky Method the other day.  3 short seasons, but it was really good.

Lasso finale was spectacular... the ending a show that great deserves. This final season has been full of some amazing moments, and I believe, a couple of the best episodes of the series entire run. I laughed SO hard last night watching the finale, and had moments where I thought I might cry. It was beautiful, with all the feels, without being melodramatic and obvious. Brilliant swerves and tied up loose ends nicely.

I laughed more than I cried which based on what I heard earlier in the day I was a little surprised. One of the reasons I need to watch it again is that I didn't think the loose ends were nicely tied and felt that ones that had been previously tied got untied last night.

Is the door open for a return or spin off? Sure feels like it right now.

Like many shows Covid killed the 3rd last season.

Agreed- almost perfect series finale. Great episode.
