O'Shea got too used to the team stepping up in the clutch when it mattered and pulling a game out of the fire. So he still has that conservative mindset except he doesn't have the horses anymore to rely on that so we end up breaking when it matters.

Needs to coach for the team he has now not the team he used to have.

Very true. We lack the talent now and he has to evolve with the crap roster he now has. Same goes for his coordinators. Younger trying to re-invent the CFL defence and rotating in countless players on every play is hurting the little bit of talent that we do have.

I see and hear Jefferson and Ceresna being highlighted as a positive. BC's entire game plan was to go right at those guys. Their lack of discipline as veteran players is where all of the problems on our D start. Pass plays, no discipline on the pass rush, open up escape lanes for Salter. Zone read, Ceresna getting walled off and Horvath going 8 yards untouched or Jefferson getting baited to come inside and Salter having free run to the edge.

I don't really give a rip about 1 sack and 1 knockdown a game if you're getting beaten like a rented mule 30 snaps a game.

That was basically BC's 4th OL they've used in less than half a season. Multiple guys playing their first games, rookies. And we are getting bullied all over the field. We gotta know they are going to run zone read over and over again. We're getting baited to crash the backfield against a QB that doesn't even want to throw the ball over and over again.

This is basic stuff.

BC brings in a tight end, or goes double tight and puts all their receivers to the field. Our boundary corner (Williams) doesn't even know where to line up. He keeps looking around and ends up lining up at 10 yards depth over the centre. We end up with no contain man to the boundary and BC just attacks this repeatedly with Horvath and Salter.

Our D don't know their assignments well enough to adjust to formation. What exactly are we doing during the week to prepare for games?

Younger has guys playing all over the place, rotating in and rotating out, it's a fiasco. It's not possible for defences to gel or prepare properly that way. I am unclear wtf happened to him the past 2 years but his coordinating has been god awful.

I said this game will set the tone for the season. And it has. I definitely enjoyed the past decade of hard nose always fighting Blue Bomber football. That is officially over. They'll be lucky to get to 8 wins....hell im ot sure they will win another game.

Condell should be fired for tonight's game plan. Im not sure ive ever seen an OC use the run game to set up absolutely nothing at all. I have so many complaints about the offense that it makes me forget how brutal the defense was. At least Hogan had the excuse that he was a rookie OC. Condell doesn't seem to have any kind of feel for how games are unfolding. Its pathetic

MOS doesn't believe in any of his players. The proof is in the pudding. Inside the 5 twice and you walk away with 6...no belief the O can get 7, and no belief that if your O fails the D will hold a rookie qb. Just straight up chicken **** football.

Im not even angry, im sad. The golden years are done.

In fairness they have given him zero reason to believe in them. Look at the past 2 games, why would any coach trust what he's seeing out of his team. I'm not trying to defend MOS either, given all of that it still was chicken ****. Just pointing out that this current group of players seems to lack the overall talent and mental strength needed. I have almost zero doubt right now that the locker room is broken.

Not quick, but the biggest ones aren't to the roster.

It is said that familiarity breeds contempt. But not nearly as much as success breeds contempt.

Mos came to enjoy winning moderately and not mind losing. If you watch the doc on Jordan's Bulls (or see the memes from it) Jordan hated losing far more than he loved winning. Loving winning wears thin; hating losing never stops or slows down.

Walters, I don't think, was such a reach, but he used to look so haggard in every presser or interview. He hasn't in a long time. Football is extremely hard on quality of life, especially with a family. Walters has taken a Danny Mac approach and is prioritizing quality of life, family, and sleep. No one in the organization is hungry enough, especially those with a boss's title of some sort or another. They want comfort and convenience, not bleeding-edge sacrifices to be the best possible. Walters used to run the Canadian side scouting, but more and more he's brought in others to support him and take pieces of the job up here away. Whereas those positions used to be more focused on scouting in the CFL and down south.

To Wade's level, the team is still the success story of the league. When the attendance drops, that changes. But the staff owns the product on the field. Will he get grumpy when attendance drops off, or would he be content to ride off into the sunset? I don't think he wants the president of the team to be his life's work. He's a guy who does a lot; this job has narrowed him down a lot.

I've said it before, and it won't happen, but travel home during the bye should be cancelled. We got blown out by 2 of the worst teams in the league at home back-to-back. Though it might be far more prudent to let the players go home and re-shuffle the deck in-house this week. We need the coaching staff and front office to be shaped up first. Their equivalent of going back to 2 a days mid season for an underperforming team back in the day. Tear down and rebuild the playbooks and install packages, redistribute power and play-calling duties, reassess positionally, and prepare to make moves to improve.

Otherwise, we might as well plan the fire sale before the trade deadline.

we just honored Cal Murphy...we need to maybe channel a bit of what he did when team/players/coaches were under performing....

Rostering is the least of our worries right now. I know you feel it would make a massive difference, it wouldn't. What would make a massive difference is if our starters played like starters and made plays. Who the 51st, 52nd, 53rd guy on the roster doesn't amount to a hill of beans when on every position unit you have you have guys starting that aren't starting calibre. 51-53 ain't making up for that. We need our GM, HC, and locker room leadership to step up in a big way because we need new players, we need a different style of coaching, and we need our locker room to believe again because it's become cancerous imo.

26 minutes ago, GCn20 said:

Nothing is going to improve this season. Firing coaches and GMs mid season with no heir apparent already on staff would be even worse than what we are seeing now. Can't possibly bring in enough talent to bring us to contender status. This is where we are at. That being said, maybe Zac returns after the bye and it creates a spark. About all we can hope for.

I don't think we fire anyone either, especially with the cap and how the staff is constructed. I could see us handing Hogan back play-calling duties while TC still does install prep, etc, and having Hall step in more over JY instead of under him.

25 minutes ago, bigg jay said:

The only thing that would accomplish is to lean heavily on someone who has functionally been semi-retired and year-to-year for a couple of years. JY is a chip off of Hall; going from one to the other alone isn't going to change a lot. So canning JY wouldn't accomplish much. JY has had great mid-season adjustments in the past, though.

Idk why we are taking so long to make personnel adjustments (outside of injuries) to the secondary this year. We always start with some wacky groupings or systems and rein it in. We put Woodbey back on last night, then kept running 2 Canadian Ss in nickel. We kept running shallow 2s, with 1 half deep.

If anything, this D is closer to what Hall would want to run.

O'Shea needs to do the honourable thing and fall on his sword, like Maurice did when he realized that whatever was going on with the Jets was beyond his ability to correct. We need a complete change in coaches/coordinators. We need an interim head coach, and defensive/offensive coordinators. We need to part ways with a half-dozen players- you all know who they are. In all likelihood, we deservedly are going to miss the playoffs or limp into a crossover game and get blown out again. If Walters is reluctant to put the axe to O'Shea and bring in a placeholder coach or coaches, he needs to go as well. I have followed this team for more than 50 years and this is as disgusted as I have ever been.

You can't just say to hell with the cap. It's not like the players cap that it's a set fine and teams are free to go about their business. Wholesale changes have to be run by the league before being executed in regards to the football ops SMS. We have no chance of a late season run. You are living in dream land. This team doesn't have the talent. Sorry if that hurts your MOS rant, but it's straight up fact. Our team sucks right from GMing all the way down to longsnapper, and despite your belief that we can fix our team by putting backups and PR guys in, that's another pipe dream.

That is an interesting point, idk what the particulars are when it comes to breaking the coaching cap, but that might be a good option. Kind of looks like it's the same as the player cap. So going dollar for dollar to the limit of 100k over would allow bringing in someone. We have the limit of 11 coaches on staff right now, but that could be rectified by sending one guy packing. Hull would be the target for me; WR coaching has been poor, and we have Addison on staff now too. I don't buy that we are doing **** with analytics, so Stanley could be a candidate too. Otherwise, hall/jy or TC/Hogan.

Maybe you even send 2 guys packing and bring in 2, and go above the dollar-for-dollar penalty. Obviously you would want to stay below the draft pick penalty. Could also bring in someone as a player/coach. Or put Zach in that role if he isn't going to be back.

Remember when we did the same thing with Ayers? We keep doing that, and with guys who aren't pass rushers.

about this leadership group...

Mike O'Shea used to be angry at every loss... we'd lose a pre-season game by 2 and he'd be pissed in post game... the only thing he cared about w3as winning... these last few years, seems like just doesn't seem to care anymore

Kyle Walters was the underdog GM... people felt he didn't deserve the job, and once he got it, no one worked harder... he unturned every stone possible, brought in every player available to try and find more wins... now, he seems content with the average group we have

Wade Miller was the ultimate underdog... he had no business on the football field, yet played 10+ years in the league... he had no business acumen, yet built one of them most successful recruiting businesses in the province... he had no football management experience, yet built the best game day experience and marketing in the league... no one used to care about this team and winning more than Miller... now, is he content with this?

WTF happened??

Everyone became complacent and older. The core players who were perhaps not the most talented but the hardest working and committed left and no new, vigorous players came in to lead. The fatalism of the coaches has been picked up by many of the players and has sabotaged the efforts and will of those who still give a spit.

Not sure if it's been tweaked since coming into effect but when they introduced the cap this is how it worked:

For the first $100,000 over the cap, the fine is the equivalent of the amount by which the limit has been exceeded. For any amount over $100,000, penalties range from a minimum of a $25,000 fine and the loss of one second-round draft pick to a maximum of a $250,000 fine and the loss of three draft picks.

CFL.ca

CFL introduces non-player football operations cap - CFL.ca

A new cap on non-player football operations costs is being introduced for 2019 as a new measure to deliver fiscal discipline, a level playing field and greater fairness.

Given that MOS & Walters are on new deals, I'd have to assume we'd be on the high end of the penalties to can someone now. The club can afford the fines but the draft picks would sting.

MOS or Walters fired? Maybe in the off-season, but we still have a lot of this year left.

Wholesale changes? In mid-season? The best players already have jobs. We should bring in NFL cuts and give them playing time for next year, though.

What we need to do is send a message to the players that we will make the changes needed to make the team better no matter what. I'd cut big Stan based on his play this year. That would send shock waves through the players. Play better or choose a window or an aisle seat.

The DC and OC need to simplify everything. One of the reasons we are constantly out of position and tentative is that the players have too much to process. Dru's best game was when he hadn't been here long and the playbook was small. Younger doesn't need to reinvent defense; he needs to put players in the right places to succeed. He also needs to dedicate a complete practice to tackling and wrapping people up.

is it not yhou have to pay a coach unless he is hired elsewhere?...If so some team may pick him up..why wouldnt they...he's wickedawesome no?

Even if nobody doses this yr...Bump up a guy like Richie already on staff to run the ship till fall..No harm..no foul...no extra cost...And at the least for this yr allows you to determine if the HC was the issue

If Richie gets a shift in what we are doing...all of a sudden a change in philosophy and how we are playing and preparing...Players are actually given a shot...and perform, maybe he wants the job moving forward, or at least gives you the buffer until we find someone else

Cleaning house top to bottom is the last resort method and done when literally everything is a lost cause and failing all over....It's not there yet and finding the issue by power of deduction...in a controlled manner is the best course to take

The biggest problem with this team now is the coaching full stop. I don't expect changes but none of them are doing their jobs well and that needs to change before anything gets better.

Yes and no...are the best players playing tho? Smith does more in limited reps than Jones or Wilson...I think a guy right off the street would offer more at wr5 spot

Do we know Vibert or Eli wouldn't be better at center after a few games to settle in?...Is Stan the best LT option...Korn has zero business on an active roster...would not one of Jackson ..Texada..Allen be better in secondary than....well take your pick

Would Oyelola maybe offer more than a bottom of roster Canadian...2+ yrs in the NFL tells me most likely

Would Peterson offer more on roster than Daniels..Especially when MCI...Clercius ..even Eli can do that job?

Cycle thru these guys...give them their shot and if not better, or even marginally better yup.....be bringing guys in week after week

We dont know if they are better or not...we basically have to trust ion Osh as he is picking the roster...I have my doubts\

All I know from experience is that more times than not if you give a young...hungry guy who's been chomping at the bit a real chance...They get er done and become a fixture

Bringing Hall back if his health allows would be a good first step, but I can see no viable option but for O'Shea to be fired posthaste. The message has to be sent, and O'Shea has been the problem for several years with is favouritism and bizarre roster choices. And now Bryant's incompetence resulted in Brown being racked up. Can't recall when I have been so angry at any Bomber coach.

Hall is fine now...and already here...so its a pretty easy transition for at minimum this yr as he knows the team...and has ultra respect
