Wheatfall is the type of guy you should be easily able to replace from scouting. But we aren't giving anyone a chance. It was ordained from the get go that we use 3 nis at receiver and white and Wilson are the only Americans.

So if you lock into 3 NI WR, why in the world do you not spend draft capital on some in the 26 draft?

Well its narrowed down a bit then..and was stupid decision wherever it came from

Equally as boggling a question as why do we go 3 Americans at linebacker all season when drafting the crap out of the position?

There is no cohesion between the roster usage and the acquisition of players by management

Yeah.. seems coach and gm not on same page..or they are then 1 of em is deviating...

Broxton is a little overrated IMO. He's average at best in pass pro. You can tell he lives in fear of getting beat by a speed rush because he always kicks way too wide instead of getting depth. He'd never play tackle in the US, he'd be a guard.

Honestly one of the things I would try is Wallace at LT....he plays guard like a tackle in pass pro, and Broxton at guard. Vanterpool or Poncius or whoever at RT.

Have to convince all these guys to get depth vs the edge guys because they forget their main advantage is their size and forcing guys to get to the spot where the can bend the edge before a guy like Broxton or Wallace gets their hands on them.

Alas, it is highly unlikely that the O-line as presently constituted will be voluntarily changed. If it does not change for the better, we are gonna be down a Collaros again and soon. I was amazed that he went back into the game after that vicious blindside hit, but one more ought to put an end to the season, and likely his career.

To me, this is Walters & Osh making a decision. THEY didn't want him so no contract offer was given. Just a stupid move when you look at the receiving unit we have now.

It was them prioritizing Tim White. It was the right move at the time and honestly I don't feel different in hindsight.

even hodge made light of this. we need to get off the 3rd canadian and give singer a chance.

this. especially when the draft had solid developmental guys available in the mid rounds. the guys we did pick were tcf at best. but we really needed the two more lbers we picked in front of that

tim white is a good addition, but he’s not the guy to build a wr core around. same with demski. We need the wr you build around.

Wr core is one of the most important position groups in the cfl. And we don’t have the bedrock guy.

The Wheatfall narrative continues to baffle. By all accounts he was a reasonable dude when he was here, but if you are going 3 NIs which the Bombers did, you aren't going to take him over Wilson or White so where does he fit in? If the Bombers went 3 Imports he would be a serviceable 3rd guy (which he really is behind Smith and Lawler in Hamilton) but he was here for a season and a half and his production isn't too far off then and now... 2 really nice games, a few games he completely disappeared and a bunch of serviceable games in the middle. As other people are saying... you SHOULD be able to scout another one of those guys and maybe hit a home run. Maybe Singer is that guy but as of right now it's looking like we'll never know.

The Elks brought in 2 of them with Luther and Cephus. Argos brought in Kahmann.

wheatfall is playing well, but he’s not the answer here and not a premium guy. Hes a slightly different skill set than wilson but he’s the same role guy.

Looking at that receiving group. The weakest in the CFL. I don't share your optimism. As Booch said, why let Wheatfall go? Sign him then if he doesn't measure up in TC you get rid of him. We let too many players walk after their first contracts. then we end up signing older & more expexsive playuers. Wheatfall could have been signed on the cheap. probably cheaper than Nield. Who hasn't earned his salary & has disappeared completely.

Wheatfall costs peanuts in the whole scheme of things..it wasnt a this or that situation..just piss poor planning and forward thinking

You dont go 3 canadians when you hardly have depth for 2..thats just stupid...even more stupid when you dont have to in order to meet ratio

Demski disappears for stretches..Nield hasn't even appeared yet..other recievers on teams dissappear...its just how games go at times

We made a dumb decision to go 3 canadians knowing we didnt have depth to..then didnt draft any..and only went after 1 in FA...wheres the logic there?

He's better than several of our current guys tho..and garners attention..he didn't need to be the number 1...but he would make us better

The fact tho that the best reciever in camp..and in 2 preseason games is rotting on the PR as our group basically sucks..tells us all we need to know about the intelligence of the coaching staff

again, this discussion isn't about Wheatfall. It's about the fact that we use only 2 americans at skill positions on offence. I had to pause when thinking about that initially because of how ridiculous it is. You can replace a guy like Wheatfall super easily if you want to, but for whatever reason this team decided that they only needed 2 american skill players on offence and then proceeded to NOT draft any offensive skill guys anyway. It just bottles the mind...

I’m not arguing for our receiving core - it’s weak. Simply that Wheatfall was given every opportunity to take over a starting position last year and disappeared. Some went out and replaced with White.

We should absolutely be starting another American, but Wheatfall played his way off the team.

I don't dislike any of our CDN receivers or Daniels, but as others mentioned before me, what I don't like is that we don't draft receivers. Yet we continue to draft an abundance of Lb's. We used some of our premium draft picks on Lb's but yet we don't generally start CDN Lb's.

I don't hate the idea of three Canadian receivers, but it seems disjointed, that we haven't spent some draft picks trying to get the best Canadians available to us at that position.

I don't think I would care as much if our defence and our LB core was tops in the league, but it's not, not even middle pack....

Or maybe without Youngers schemes they would be??

My feeling is they simply gave up on the guy. Young players will struggle at times. They should have brought Wheatfall back & let him compete for a spot.

who didnt disappears yr tho?...As a first yr starter...in 16 games...as essentially a 3rd option at best how is 655 yards..4 td's and 15.7 yards per catch considered a throw away? Especially in our crap system last yr?

Hate to keep harping and saying the same thing but the argument was not him being a 1A and a guy who would take us to the promised land...but augment our group...give others some space and if we did find better in camp he could be easily cut and cost us nothing in process....Our crew is worse than last yr really as we have 2 spots doing absolutely nothing

Saying he played himself off the team is kind of a dumb statement,,,and White isnt Wheatfalls replacement...He's Schoen replacement...or whoever was considered out number 1....If White was to be a 3rd..4th guys replacement...who is our legit number 1...game breaker?...Thats what White was signed as and touted for

not even just gave up...hardly given the chance...His first yr shouldnt be a factor as he was really a bit player...but last yr in a Hogan offence he certainly didnt fall on his face...Not his fault our scheme and QB'ing was crap

Would it be safe to say our number 1 guy last yr disappeared too?...Barely 1000 yards...less yards per catch than Wheatfall....Makes 225k...or is it more? 6 years older on wrong side of 30...just for context

And compare that to other teams' number 1 highest paid guys...many of whom make less....people will say yeah but last year offence was a mess to justify Demski's really average yr

so for some to crap on Wheatfalls production...2nd on the team at that is kind of lame...How many teams from last yr cut/let walk their 2nd leading receiver...to replace with essentially just a place taker on their roster??..I bet none

IF we don't add a couple of difference makers in the next week, it will indicate we're not interested in the rest of the season..We know there's one out there in Geno....Could we make a deal with the guy or are we even interested ??...

Keep in mind this is a 2 way street. For all we know, KW put an offer out already and Geno said thanks, but no thanks.

It's a pet peeve of mine when people talk about signing players like the players automatically say yes to offers that are presented to them...

yup...Some guys may not wanna come here, just as some may wanna come

Tho in my opinion...we won last week...but not in a way to give any optimism...so you can bet your life there will be zero changes...even tho we desperately need some

Good thing it was Ottawa in all honesty as any other team likely we would have lost, and coulda been the start of a long winless skid...Next week may be it anyway if we just roll in status quo and look unprepared to start again

In two years with us, Wheatfall had a big game to start the year which resulted in a big chunk of his production, but then fell off.

2024 - 273 yards (39 per game): but 111 yards came in week 1, most of that being on a single catch which came on a busted coverage. He actually fell over while running on a play that should have been an easy TD for him. He played in 6 games the rest of the way, averaging 27 yards per game.

2025 - 655 yards (41 per game): Again starts the season with a big game and does ok in week 2, after that he goes on to average 31 yards per game the rest of the season.

If you look after week 5 last year (when Schoen got injured and he needed to step up), here are the yards per game:

Wilson: 64 (over the final 6 games after he returned)

Demski 57

Sterns 44

Brady 38

Wheatfall 28

Clercius 19

Even in the context of last years offence, he fell off and disappeared in comparison with everyone else around him. He did not take advantage of the opportunity and was replaced. His lack of production may even have caused the shift to starting 3 Canadians as we weren't getting any additional production from our Americans.

There's no more freebies on the schedule anymore. Now, we'll truly see what kind of teasm we have.

well then as the second leading receiver on team...should he have been kept and all other below him not...based on that logic? 2024 he was a bit player...not a consistent starter...and also saying a big game here and there for any player is skewwing anything is kinda lame...obviously in that game...and all the in game circumstances that occured that player stepped up...no?...and what did other guys average after a biug game...u need to add context to your evidence..what was game plan?..who was the focal point...what did teams do to take away certain players...who may have been knicked up..so was more a decoy?...a lot to add to how stats panned out

And for a team to go 3 canadians when not equiped to go 2 when an import by your logic "fell off" is the stupidest theory...ever

While stats don't tell the whole story, especially when you cherry pick games...or blocks of games...stats over the course of several yrs do...show a trend and also what a guy can do/should do for you

based on full season last year..the culmative info shows he was 2nd on team, one the higher averages per catch

Culmative this yr..Has a better per yards than anyone on our team...Is close in terms of yards to our top 3...Has a better catch percentage than Wilson..and basically on par with White

Compare that now with the whole picture for Nield...Cobb...Corcorran(tho we wised up and cut him)

Who has better "culmative" stats...and yes that matters?...And who based on that would offer us more?

Again...He was not suggested to be "the guy" but a piece of the picture...and Again White was not signed off scrap heap to replace Wheatfall...he was signed to replace whoever or whatever was our number 1 last yr...I guess Schoen...the guy who's career we wrecked cause again we had zero depth

Likely a 4th place one at best...

So halfway through the season the team is somehow 5-4. Basically 3 more wins to lock up a playoff spot. 5 more wins probably gives a home playoff game. Remaining games:

  • Week 12 - @Elks

  • Week 13 - vs Als

  • Week 14 - Labour Day Classic

  • Week 15 - Banjo Bowl

  • Week 16 - BYE

  • Week 17 - vs Argos

  • Week 18 - @Als

  • Week 19 - vs Stamps

  • Week 20 - @Elks

  • Week 21 - @Lions

No more OTT, no more HAM. 2x Elks, 2x Als, 2x Riders.

Could be tough for this team to scrape out 3 more wins. They're going to have to start figuring their **** out. Next four weeks could be brutal.

IMO best case scenario is four more wins. Banjo Bowl if Riders are still banged up, TO, Calgary & BC. Certainly no gimmes in there.
