25/26 CFL (Non Bombers) Off Season Thread

Is this ever a guy we should take a run at? I really like Pokey as a receiver but not sure he's a 1A Superstar guy... Would you ever take a run at Hatcher as your #1 and then have Pokey and Demski as 2/3?

Can confirm - ran it through Google Translate and this is what came back:

  • Brady is the most complete running back in the CFL full stop. Rushing, receiving, blocking, no one does it all as well as he does.   Now that doesn't automatically make the contract he got w

Which is why I don't understand why we never went after Taylor Powell & allowed Edmonton to sign him. Zach will be 38 this season & Cody Fajardo is 34. Why we couldn't have matched what Edmonton was paying or beat it is a real head scratcher. Why did we completely put aside qb development or improvemnet of the position because we're waiting for some diva qb who thinks he's good enough to play in the NFL after 2 years of trying? Life should have gone on. Except for Walters. He;s put the entire team on hold hoping Elgersma signs here & it hasn't happened. He blown it big time with Powell signing in Edmonton. In essence, the Bombers have done nothing because they're hoping Elgersma decides to come here. They've conceded the QB 2 position just waiting for him. So, now we have the worst QB room in the CFLn waiting for a guy who may never take a snap here. If he does sign, the moment his rookie contract is up he'll bolt to a CFL team in Southern Ontario or continue his NFL quest.

Why are we assuming the QB2 spot is being held for Elgersma? Sure he could compete for it but how often do USports QBs show up and immediately got slotted into backup QB?

Bombers will have Bryce Perkins who won the UFL MVP last year and Payton Throne who had a reasonable NCAA career and was an NFL camp cut last year and then obviously Terry Wilson as the guy with actual CFL experience.. who by the way has played about as much as Powell has the last two seasons.

Realistically if Elgersma were to show up it would be Perkins or Wilson as QB2 and Elgersma as 3... If he did end up QB2 that would mean he was more or less worth the wait

I agree that the defacto number 2 position is unlikely to end up being Elgersma if he does sign. However, whether or not he signs does decide how we approach our QB room in general. Being a NAT, how the Bombers QB development behind Collaros is significantly different between the two scenarios of him signing or not signing. The Bombers future plans will be to give Elgersma a boat load of development runway.

If I was guessing, it'll be a fight in camp between Terry Wilson and the UFL MVP guy for the QB2 spot...

The only available young QB that is a free-agent is Cameron Dukes. If we need to add some experience behind Collaros, he might be worth a look (again) for QB2.

I'm not so sure about this. Maybe if he got here the year he was drafted. But the waiting game he's played, imo...has kind of forced the Bombers to look else where for the future QB. If they find someone or a couple guys who they think are legitimate future starters I don't see why they would wait for Elgersma to develop.

That is certainly a gamble that Elgersma is taking. As I have stated in my post, Elgersma's runway certainly hinges on him signing with the Bombers. Once signed he is obligated to 3 years unless actually signed to the NFL during the offseason window. No more searching around playing the waiting game or nonsense like that. At the point of signing it is highly unlikely we cut ties with him before that 3 years is up unless he is a complete dud. However, the longer he takes to sign the more the odds go up that begin to look at alternate plans such as trading his rights etc. If in the meantime we find other guys, yep we may move on that's why my post clearly indicated that the amount of runway he will get is dependent on him signing.

Not so sure that Wilson is our number 3 right now. He is there atm but if I were to guess Wilson is an insurance policy nothing more. If our new QB recruits don't crash and burn they are favorites for both number 2 and 3.

Wilson def needs to show this camp he has taken the next step and has advanced.....If he hasnt...I could see him losing the 3rd spot to Thorne who we may see as a legit development guy like we had in Brown. Has the makeup of a real good CFL style QB

As for elgersma....he has wasted 2 valuable yrs now of development...and longer he pisses around he is even further behind in any realization of potential. If he balks all yr again...and in meantime we find a legit guy who shows progress and development thru the yr..that.. and or sign a already established guy in the 2027 FA period...I'd trade him away pronto as if he finally came in 2027 after 3 yrs in the abyss...he aint gonna be your answer anytime soon...and if handed it just cause we have a lil chub over a Canadian QB which I feel is irrelevant and pointless...expect several yrs of scuffling as a team

So when does Elgersma find out if he can obtain a work visa or not....Certainly seems like a lot of dithering around with this guy...IF his playing in the UFL hinges on the visa, you would think the powers that be down there would expedite his request...For all he knows this could be a very long belabored procedure and his future hangs in the balance... I hope to hell his agent has the sense to at least approach our organization and give us something to go by, as the clock is ticking down...The whole handling of this kid is looking shoddy at best...

My key point is that this year is his best shot at getting the team to commit to some development runway. If he doesn't come North this year, we cannot wait around and must pivot away from him IF we have a better candidate to develop.

Confused as to why I'm not seeing W as the predicted winner for every year for the next 50 years. Weird. Knew AI was a joke. This proves it.

Predicting 50 years from now is an amazing feat of AI. I mean to know how rosters shape up in 2071 with players not even born yet is downright amazing.
