25/26 CFL (Non Bombers) Off Season Thread

Is this ever a guy we should take a run at? I really like Pokey as a receiver but not sure he's a 1A Superstar guy... Would you ever take a run at Hatcher as your #1 and then have Pokey and Demski as 2/3?

Can confirm - ran it through Google Translate and this is what came back:

  • Brady is the most complete running back in the CFL full stop. Rushing, receiving, blocking, no one does it all as well as he does.   Now that doesn't automatically make the contract he got w

I just don't see the 7 or 8 failed attempts. I think he didn't succeed on plan A and is on plan B.

The guy has been told since he picked up a football that he can't make the pros. And then he came within a single roster spot of an NFL roster, so he's gone on to the next step, which requires him to wait for the UFL season.

Then it comes down to whether or not he gets playing time in the UFL....If he's constantly rated third string... and seeing the way the politics works down there in football, his nfl dream will have gone up in a puff of smoke...UFL then success in the NFL.....pipe dream being administered to the kid for sure

Makes me wonder if he fails the UFL option will he mentally crushed and not succeed here.

nothing really indicates until he even gets up here and makes an attempt if he will even see success here...He's a Canadian high school trained...then CIS trained QB...NOT a glowing resume by any means.....When has the last Canadian trained through high school then College QB has had any real success up here?....Gerry Datillio??

Ain't gonna happen for him anytime soon...if ever....Give him props for the self belief i guess, but cmon man....

His best shot for any real legit NFL attempt....and even this is a longshot is to come up here....Win a job as a starter by shooting the lights out and show he has the advanced mind/processing ability in the pros's and put up Rourke like numbers ...or better before, Before Rourke got his somewhat legit chance....and even then he had NFL polotics against him...Elgserma's are even worse against him being a 100 percent product of Canada..At least Rourke went the prep school route, and then had success at the NCAA level, and that wasnt even enough for him

Exactly. Lots of hype for a guy that may not even make a CFL roster never mind the NFL.

For me i don’t mind the hype whether it’s warranted or not because at this stage he’s a prospect of ours and we always hold hope a prospect works out for us until it does or it doesn’t. Keep it simple and manage our expectations appropriately.

Also, this just in, Riders continue to suck royally, report at 10.

Yeah he is a player we have rights to...support them all....but he basically is hype and hope at this point...and the longer he dilly dallies down a dead end road...the longer he is delaying this process and proving anything...and he is getting older at same time with no evidence of anything...which dont help his cause

He should suck it up....win a job here....shoot the lights out when he is still very young and if NFL teams see the possible talent...then he can get a more legit shot coming in as a successful starter in Canada...but **** around for couple yrs...stunting your growth while u wait and being 26..27 already if you do show you may be worth a look, and even then it will be as a prospect and a developmental type thing...You basically aged yourself out as NFL teams wont put in the time and money on a guy that may not show it until he 30ish...especially a guy coming with his background

With Collaros indicating that this year may be his last, maybe knowing he won't be sitting behind a future hall of famer for another 2 years is enough for Elgersma to want to come up?

Gotta say, I listened to the Collaros presser and I think Hodge took a partial quote and turned it into way more than it was.

Collaros was asked if he ever thinks about retirement and he said he does. He was asked "so you think there's a chance this might be your last season?" And he said "sure there's a chance" but he also said that he feels great and that as long as he feels he can perform and help the team win, he's going to keep playing. He also said he likes the 1 year deals and just playing it by ear.

So I wouldn't get too hung up on any potential ZC8 retirement announcements...

It would have been real enjoyable to be around here if his answer was ‘Oh no I feel real good, I was chatting with Jake Thomas and I’m thinking I have a good five or so quality years left in me’.

The Commish and his team should be doing everything to help the Stumps get a new stadium that would help build this league.

Based on the arena, the cheap bugger Edwards would want the City & province toi throw in 60% of the cost like he got for the new arena. He'd also underbuild & put up a new facitlity with 22000 seats. If he wanted a new building. It appears he doesn't. Edfwards won't even build an indoor practice facility for the team. Wants govt to pay for it. He diverted lotto money that was designated for inside stadium improvements for fans to build office space & a new locker room for the coaches & players. The sound system died 4 years ago. Edwards hasn't replaced it. Refuses to spend the money. He now has 2 gigantic speakers that blast out sound. So loud at times you can't talk to the person next to you.

Yeah, exactly. he may be cooked mentally. Thing of it is, I get the impression that playing in the CFL is beneath him. I mean, I hope not but everytime he fails down south, it has to kill him bit by bit. His agents need to get him on the wagon & start playing again. He has that option here.

zach doesn’t seem the type to be actively thinking about retiring or it being his last year.

We all know the reality of his situation. that said, we’ve added soo much to the offence how could you not want to play and be excited? No doubt zachs entire focus is on this season coming. As it should be.

I don’t think zach will call it quits. I think he will require us telling him he’s not coming back one day for him to pack it in.

Zach's making up for lost time. He lost a more than a few good seasons with injuries & concussions. So, physically he may be fresher than some qbs 5 years younger than him.

Zach was horrible last year yet he got paid like a top tier QB. Personally, I didn't want him back this year, let alone the one after that.

He won't have the excuse of a bad o-line + rookie OC to fall back on "if" he fails to perform.

I don’t think he is, he’s had a ton of wear in his career. I’d say more than any other qb in the league. More concussions than the rest of the starting qbs in the league, hand injuries etc

In a perfect world we wouldn’t have signed zach, and would’ve gotten better value the last 2 years. That said, we don’t have any options this off season.

100%, no excuses. Going into the year with a very strong offence.

I wonder where rhymes ends up, pretty surprised he’s still available. wonder if he’s expecting a crazy pay day that no one is willing to dish out
