25/26 CFL (Non Bombers) Off Season Thread

Is this ever a guy we should take a run at? I really like Pokey as a receiver but not sure he's a 1A Superstar guy... Would you ever take a run at Hatcher as your #1 and then have Pokey and Demski as 2/3?

I hate change. This is going to take me like a year to get used to.

Can confirm - ran it through Google Translate and this is what came back:

  • Brady is the most complete running back in the CFL full stop. Rushing, receiving, blocking, no one does it all as well as he does.   Now that doesn't automatically make the contract he got w

Mills was a far more consistent threat on the ground last year.

Is there a specific metric you are taking into account here?

Brady had more 20+ yard rushes on 49 less carries, so he's by far a bigger threat to to bust a big one than Mills.

Mills was busting a 10+ yard run every 5.5 carries or so, whereas Brady was about every 6.5 carries but even that isn't a huge difference.

Brady also had a bigger YPC than Mills.

Would have been neat to see what kind of stats Brady would have put up had he not missed effectively 4 games. Would have probably have had 2000 yards from scrimmage for sure.

That is a mom job requisite, and I would include pizza pies in that.

Except that he wasn't. Brady finished with over 100 yards more on 82 less touches. This includes rushing and rec. The only metric that has Mills being better is TDs, but that doesn't really incorporate how the Bombers operate inside the 5.

As soon as the Bombers get to the five they send out short yardage.

Imagine Brady's numbers if Strevy didn't vulture all those tds from the 1. Then again, it likely kept him from making $400,000. 🤣

The trinity is competent after all.

So far so good. Now, they need to sign Castillo. One more test to come with free agency.

He seems like a waste of an American spot honestly. I’m not sure I’d bring him back. I’d draft a guy and probably draft a global guy who can do all 3. Seems like better use of the roster. I’d bring in 5 or 6 guys who can do all 3 honestly and keep the best 2. 1 on the PR. Again if you gonna go American there dude needs to do all 3. Sergio can but doesn’t. If he does all 3, bring him back to compete but no guarantees there. Kickers are a dime a dozen like receivers and defensive ends should be.

The last guy we drafted really worked out for us, didn't it? Took him 4 years to actually become a pro kicker & get over the jitters. It's all hilarious how everyone thinks no player has value so let's sign everyone to the cheapest contracts possible. Then they wonder why we don't win championships.

I remember the last time we cheaped out on a place kicker and how that ended up...   Castillo is far from being an easy cost cutting player.

Liegghio was lucky that kick was blocked in the 2022 Grey Cup because he missed it anyway. It saved him the embarrassment of having to explain that he choked once more under pressure. Castillo has been money for us since & now some fans think he's just some kind of overpriced kicker that should be replaced by some random rookie player. From a place like Italy or Japan because he costs too much. The guy has kicked 3 field goals of 60 yards or more.

I agree on Castillo. Kicking is huge in the CFL and Castillo performs up to his contract. Those are the type of contracts we need to keep.

If we actually let our Canadain LB's we drafted play...then the DA spot used on Castillo is moot and we can get the extra DA on roster in a "backup" capacity...I would tho draft a global....or find a Canadian kid to groom into doing all 3 tho....that should also be a priority this off-season

Would be nice to have one guy do all 3, but unless we have a sure thing there we can't roll the dice.

Oh agree....hence why we need to find a guy by whatever means and develop him all yr as a possible succession....not the usual just ignore it and then try and find a guy when we are forced to....

But for this yr Castillo is a must....especially early in yr when we may be still working out kinks with a new offensive system and may need some early season FG's

Let the best player earn the position, but O'Shea's history and attitude would seem to make that unlikely. He will probably play nice and make a few token gestures to signal a change of attitude, but inevitably he will revert. This would likely mean he will set up non-pet players to fail and then fell justified that he knew best all along.

Because he is not one of O'Shea's faves.

What are you talking about here.

Now that doesn't automatically make the contract he got worth it, but there's worse guys to over pay than a home grown legit MOP candidate who can do it all at the position.

Yup not even close. Imagine him with an dominating Oline? When he's in the zone, everyone else around him becomes better.

So what does Castillo have to do to get into the pet dept.     ....get new glasses.....Sergio should have handled all of the kicking chores long ago....

I think they are worried that Sergio punting would affect his kicking.

Almost no one does all three jobs any more.
