Well he's probably pretty much there anyway... which based on game 1 ain't so bad....

nah....once he is back to a good yr post surgery to have his running game back to what it was...and it will be...and reps reps reps with offence seeing the things he needs to see live...I see much higher ceiling yet

At the end of the day the GM is the guy who offers the contracts. The fact that Jake Thomas or other long in the tooth guys are still here is 100% on Walters. I could give a crap if MOS wants these guys, sometimes as GM you gotta save a coach from himself. I look at his body of work over the past 3 years and I see a big fat F grade for Walters. Our depth is suspect, our OL and DL are average at best, and our NAT content is deteriorated compared to when we were the envy of the league. That's on the GM. I'm not trying to give MOS an out with these comments either, he needs to be better.

not necessarily....he will cater or try to add/retain players the HC wants...I think issue here is Walter's listens too much to Osh and doesnt reign him in with his wants and asks...

Walters and his staff have brought guys in and many have looked good...and yes it's pre-seson but still....many vets kept have looked bad...or didn't even participate but were basically handed a spot

and age and athleticism and technical skill too has to be in the player evaluation, as well as projecting 1..2 yrs down road where they could be...we fail in that regard

Tail wags the dog to much here...needs to change

So did such underperformers as Josh Johnson. If I'm wrong, I'll admit it but right now I stand by my feeling that he's not a quality CFL receiver.

he is run of mill average...and will never be a game changer...I could go down  south and scrounge several guys up that would be very effective moreso than him....he'll prob catch 4 or 5 balls and people will think wow...we got a winner here....but any pro should catch a ball thrown to him at this level for most part...it's what they do with it...and how they effect room for others...havnt seen him show anything in his 2 yrs here to think he's worth 2 yrs of being here

So the mistake isn't so much letting Lawler go, it's not bringing in someone to replace him. I guess they thought Mitchell could do some of that, and we'll that hasn't happened.

Yeah it’s multiple mistakes layered. The miss on letting Lawler go isn’t gigantic since it was an over pay, but it’s heavily worsened by all the other mistakes and misses.
The cap going up makes Hamilton pay more reasonable too.

Not airlifting in WRs over the bye was a mistake, and not having started now that schoen is on the 6 is another. We keep compiling mistakes, and bad judgement. We do it at de, and wr. That’s not just mos, de is more mos, wr is more Kyle.

After spending soo many years offering top dollar to free agent elite WRs and getting scorned endlessly, it’s odd that we developed one and let him walk for not wanting to pay elite money, twice.
Lawler isn’t just an elite tier wr in the cfl, he’s in a class all his own when it comes to hands. No one else is out here mossing guys at will.

Maybe the plan was to hope that Wilson doesn't catch on with the Jets and falls off quick... but that doesn't seem like a great plan

That’s our out imo. If we get him back. If some one else offers him top dollar are we really gonna chase? If we do how messed up would it be to pay him and not lawler?
It’s not an admirable position. We have to get him and it has to work out or Kyle is gonna chalk up another L.

Wheatfall, Wilson, Demski, and clercius offers a lot of promise. If schoen recovers a decent chunk of his former play then we are in a good position. Problem is we really need the next guy up for schoen too in the more likely scenario that he isn’t there quickly.

He likely would say the same of any wr. But maybe his preferences are steering our decisions at wr too.
Much of the organization was head over heels in love with McKnight as well though. Guy was too small for the speed/skill set he had and we kept running him out there expecting him to do in games what he did in one on ones and none padded practices. And it wasn’t happening.

At this point, give Bailey a call or who ever you have to. Maybe make a trade. If it’s not air lifts, and our ability to scout/develop/utilize WRs is not great, it’s gotta be some thing.

What happens if just one of wheatfall, clercius or Demski get hurt? Let’s be real, Demski won’t be healthy for the whole rest of the season. That’s an inevitability each year.
When sterns and Case are the best we can do this early, it’s worrisome.

Looking at our neg list, loic fouonji is un signed going into camps, but he’s raw. Under 1k in 5 seasons 5 starts. Florieia is in camp with the browns. Lassiter is with the jags. Max mcleod is with the broncos. Zay Paige is available. Reggie Roberson is with the titans. Kaedin Robinson is trying to force an extra year in college. Deven thompkins is with the panthers.

Seems like we are mainly going to be waiting for nfl cuts at wr, but we might not see any one with their pr size.

Alexander Hollins is on the ALs pr.  I’d even consider poaching a guy like Dorian Anderson off the Argos pr. A few other vet WRs have washed out like Bailey we could look at.

Our wr core was handily underperforming a few years ago early on. We brought in namaan and suddenly every one was playing like their jobs depended on it.

There is a pattern, Zach likes playing with smart intuitive receivers that are tuned into what the defence is showing, not so much the dumb ones who just run their assigned route regardless.

Yes, he won't be a FA till next year.

If he’d agree, Anderson may be a good fit, at the very least he has the height/size they’re lacking.

He played under 30 snaps at receiver last year.  He was targeted twice.  He was on as returner.  Most reps in Toronto the game when they got stuffed on 3rd and short in range to kick winning FG.

He's 5'10 with giant hands.  Mitchell is 6'1 and has 1/4 inch smaller hands.  Better 40, better shuttle, better bench.

You watch how South Dakota used him, all levels, but especially for vertical shots.  Lined up all over, see him winning on every single type of route.  Everything on Case is about how he competes.  Everything on Mitchell says "lacks focus, discipline, doesn't play fast, concern with maturity level, too many focus drops, non-factor as a blocker."

We need some reliability honestly.  Demski can't be the go to guy.  Be nice to see Wheatfall step up, and given the opportunity to get more touches at all levels.  Clercius is what he is.  If he's getting double digit targets we're probably ******.  Nice release valve, 5th target.  Get some YAC, screen game going along with the vertical shots.  Everyone going to sit on the vertical stuff until we beat zone.

Im not saying Mitchell is the answer either. Case got his chance. And didnt do anything with it. Im not expecting much from him moving forward, but i do hope im wrong.

Playing at south Dakota is very different from playing in the CFL.

Yes, no one good on the team came from South Dakota…

For those that are interested, there is a Bot on Bluesky that keeps track of changes to teams' neg lists.

It shows that Paige was removed from the Bombers' list 15 minutes ago.

Yeah I was fully believing Lawler would be back at a reasonable (but still high) dollar amount during the off season. I was surprised he left but not surprised the Bombers let him leave. I also went on record saying if they had to choose between Schoen and Lawler....Schoen would be the right one. All of that has been wrong lol. Lawler is looking like he's taken his game to another level and Schoen may not ever be what he was. And now making our QB play with RECs who don't match his style (Big guys who go up and get the ball) is just building on that mistake. Maybe Case blows up this week and absolutely proves us wrong. But I'm not holding my breath.

That's what posters here that you were arguing with were saying that personnel decisions & the management of our cap is puzzling with the decisions made. We're not disloyal to question just WTH is going on. This has been a long time thing with Osh as he plays favourites. We get rid of guys who could still contribute like Lawler & let players walk in free agency. Then not replacing them.

Why can't the CFL have a draft of American & international players? Say 8 rounds separate from the CFL draft of Canadans now to generate interest. These secret Neg Lists go back to the 1960's. It's time to change the way the CFL conducts business. Now, I'm not advocating the league goes out & drafts players that will be NFL automatics but there are players from the fourth round down that will never make an NFL team or some that'll never be drafted. I think CFL fans would be interested in finding out who their teams drafted & finding out more about them. Just my take.

Even if we did its not a given that OShea would have given them a chance, just look at db, we brought in a ton and ended up settling with Bridges who was already here. (even though it looked like other rookies showed more ie Allen and McGowan)

You’re right. But again, Walters is Mos boss. It’s not only his job to cycle in talent, but to manage mos.

Db, I think we went with bridges for fit and execution. I don’t agree with it, but it does make some sense. We struggled for a big chunk last year to get guys on the right page with JYs coverage. But once we got it working our D got worlds better.
I hope we still move on from bridges this year.

Many times Bridges has looked like Houston but without as many opportunistic int’s.  Two steps too late or not even in the play.

100%. He doesn’t gamble as much to jump under routes, but gets burned deep just as much some how.
I hope we see Allen, woodbey, vaval get a shot at some point.
