  • Really hope we get a big concert for half time that isn’t some country fried hick stuff.

Stewart Johnston is going to head out to the field with an impact wrench and move the goalposts to the back of the endzone for the halftime show. And you will feel the excitement level increase.

Fred Penner did half time recently and it rocked. Whole stadium singing along to the cat came back.

Me sitting here with tickets for a dozen rock concerts and comedy shows in 2025 and it's only March

My son dragged me to my first ever metal concert this week. Killswitch Engage I was already a fan of and they were amazing. The band that played before them I was not ready for, though! Fun time.

Awesome, Killswitch goes back a ways, glad to hear they still put on a good show! Metal is one of my favorite kinds of shows to see live but it's a tough sell for my nonmetal social group. Deftones are playing the arena this year, looking forward to that. Gojira (France Olympic opening ceremony) is also coming to town (yay) but opening for KoRn (boo, one concert I actually left early it was so sad)

I miss the super dogs and even the cross fit thing they did once at a bomber game. I’d love to see some thing unique.

Mascots vs. SSK Junior football teams lol

This would be unique...

Ok yeah. Comedy making a return but rock? Like the acts are in rocking chairs right cuz certainly no new rock worth a lick.

It's a matter of taste, not usually worth debating... still, I think you're right, not a single 'new' rock group that moves the needle at all for me right now. The last 'new' rock group I got excited about was Monster Truck and they peaked pre-COVID.

I really like some punk rock coming out nowadays, especially from overseas. Check out IDLES, Viagra Boys, Amyl and the Sniffers, big hitters in their scene that aren't yet household names, these could send you down a rabbit hole if you like grimy noisy fun-loving punk

Good rockers and metal acts from past decades haven't gone away. Deftones, Machine Head, In Flames among others all coming through town this year, Papa Roach and The Used were just announced (if you're into that, no judgments haha). That's off the top of my head. So many shows to choose from!

In a few years, most of the rock acts from the 60's & 70's will be gone. Then the Classic Rock era will end just like the big bands of the 30's & 40's did. My father had over 500, 78's in his collection. Bands like Glenn Miller, Spike Jones & The City Slickers, Tommy Dorsey, Benny Goodman, Dean Martin, Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Perry Como & Wilf Carter. I used to pull them out of his collection & listen to them when I was a teenager on my record player (in the days before my stereo system) as it had a 78 speed on it. While the music wasn't my style, I still appreciated & enjoyed listening to it.

Not all the 70s music, you know that Gene Simmons is developing cyborgs or holograms to perform as Kiss. 🤣

Still holding out for Inuit throat singers or a Gregorian chant choir. Would recommend a Buddhist singalong but.....

Fred Penner man. Who doesn't want to sing The Cat Came Back?

Honestly. It would be fun. All of Canada could sing it.

It could work if someone were to rap over it... throat singing by itself may drive many people to throwing up.   I've heard it in person and while neat it did make several of the ladies run for the bathroom.

They had holograms ten years ago as the technology was just being developed. Paul McCartney performed a Beatles song with John Lennon. They also had Tupac onstage rapping his songs. Would you pay to see that? Would you buy tickets to see a hologram of Elvis perform his songs? Both my sons, especially my oldest were heavily into rap when they were teenagers. I used to hear all of the rappers from his bedroom on his stereo. I actually could rap some of Tupac's music myself much to my son's embarassment, ha, ha...

That settles it. The HU should play halftime at GC.

Or those Harmonica players who played the American National Anthem at the LA King Playoffs games said no one ever with good hearing.

Ooops sorry wrong thread. I'll head back to the Hockey discussions.

Dodged a bullet! lol.

The trews were so good. I wish we'd go with some good canadian guitar drive rock, even if it isn't a huge draw. But that's personal preference. I still think some RnB, hiphop or rap would be the best draw.

Yeah caught that after I posted.  I know nothing about country but I've heard of him so big(?) name to kick help the weekend, even if it's not my cup of tea.

I'd kick myself in the plums if I could rather than listen to country

Brad Paisley is awesome (his guitar playing alone is worth the admission...) and I'd almost guarantee that whoever they get for the half time show won't be anywhere near his level of "draw". It's honestly a huge get for the Friday night kickoff party... Can't wait to be there!

Wonder when they will announce the musical act.

2024 the Jonas Brothers were announced start of June.

2023 Green Day was in September

2022 whatever it was that was in Saskatchewan didn't get announced until November.

300 million plays on his most popular song on Spotify. He's a huge act. And Winnipeg loves their live country shows.

If they couldn't get a bigger draw for half time, I think he'd be playing half time not the friday kick off.

Winnipeg loves live music in general. I've seen rock and metal shows live here that make people in much larger cities jealous.
