  • I liked the part where @SpeedFlex27 quoted himself so he could regale us with his illustrious curling memoir.

  • Whether he comes back to Winnipeg or not, Strev will be a Bombers legend for life, after that playoff run (and all he did within it) and the post championship celebration... Afaic, he is a Bomber for

Hard disagree.

You're welcoming the world to your country. You don't send them to Edmonchuk.

(I say this as someone who quite likes Edmonton and have extended family there who I'm overdue to visit. Never been there in winter though)

If you love winters in Winnipeg then you'll love Edmonton.

That's why there was a couple of WC qualifying matches against Mexico in Edmonton played in the December 2023 cold & snow & had 52000 fans in the stands. Those damned curious farmers who love soccer, there are nearly two million of them in Edmonton. And another two million farmers in Calgary. Oh & another 105,000 in Red Deer. And another 100,000 northern farmers in Fort MacMurray.

Fatty Liver... Your comments about farmers in AB loving soccer made me chuckle hence my smart ass answer. Alberta has nearly 5 million people. It's expected that Alberta will go over that number this year.

I totally agree that you don't send the world to Commonwealth. However, Edmonton is a far better place to send the world than Toronto from a people perspective. Toronto is just a bunch of ****** nozzles who think they are somehow more important than the rest of Canada and from what I understand, most people don't like going to cities like that.

I’ve been to Edmonton and now have it on my weather app on my phone and been checking pretty regularly this winter and honestly Winnipeg is warmer most days it seems. Winnipeg and Regina similar this winter. Don’t get me wrong. Winnipeg has had some cold stretches but so has Edmonton and there’s appear colder. This winter has been Calgary like. Cold for a week or 2 then way above normal he says on a day where it’s minus 6 but minus 20 with the windchill but yesterday was plus 6.

Edmonton is Winnipeg with money, plain and simple. I do vastly prefer Winnipeg because I prefer The Shield to The Rockies, but Edmonton is without a doubt my favourite of the two major Alberta cities.

I envied Edmonton for their LRT system back in the early 2000's, but from what I've heard it's since gotten as bad or worse than Winnippeg public transit has, somehow (in terms of understaffing routes or underserving neighbourhoods, being even remotely on schedule, so on).

Edmonton is Winnipeg with topography

And not even that much... They're way further from the mountains than Calgary is. Edmonton is very much like Winnipeg, but with oil money. And our rivers are better than the North Sask. And we have a Forks... Eff em.

Money and not a fraction of the taste or culture. The best town is the last one you see on your way out.

Winnipeg gets a bad rap as the weather in edmonton, especially the summers are ****. Winnipeg sunmmers are warmer & sunnier. Weather in the winter is the same.

Winter isn't the same as it was 20 years ago anywhere, on average much milder.

Meant that the winters in Edmonton & Winnipeg are virtually similar.

Winnipeg has a better arts scene too with MTC, Prairie Theatre, The WSO etc.

A million times over. Beautiful architecture and soo many advantages here. Some thing for every one here.

Plus Edmonton is in the most MAGA of Canadian provinces with a corrupt, wanabee American Premier.

Just wondering, Does it bother you that a kid who looks like he's the love child of one of his uncles & one of his aunts (brother & sister) can play the banjo better than you?

Nah. Was the kid actually playing in that scene? Who ever did it had chops for sure.
I can’t imagine spending all that time to master a banjo though. That’s like being the best wing T coach in the nfl today.

It wasn't him playing. I saw a documentary about the movie. The kid was just a random actor named Billy Redden who was from Rabun Counry, GA who tried out & won the part. He mimicked playing the banjo while another musician played the part. The producer of the motion picture was looking for an actor who looked the part of a backwoods inbred, even though Redden is not.

"Good news! We have a role you were BORN FOR. His name is Banjo Picking Inbred #1"

"But I don't play the Banjo"

"...we'll work around it."

Truth be known, Billy Redden was a teenager at the time. He couldn't play the banjo. he certainly looks the part of a backwoods Georgian inbred child. Considering his background now he just might be. Although, it's always been denied. They found another teenager who was like a virtuoso banjo player. They strapped Redden to the banjo player with his arms behind his back. Then when it came to play the part, Redden just pretended to play using facial expressions to sell himself playing while the other kid strapped behind him actually did.

I doubt that "Deliverance" would never be made today. Even in 1972, it was a cringe worthy motion picture. I've never been able to get through it in one shot. Very uncomfortable to watch.

People always think that, but modern movies have some outrageous content, just not main stream movies. The ability for low budget movie makers to find a crowd now is way easier with all the streaming services. The free and niche services from tubi to shudder have some pretty out there stuff
