Radio Stations' Issues

I think this needs its own thread. There's obviously a sports angle and also a media angle.

Just disgusting.

  • I have to say, I left TSN1290 long ago. This past year, I've barely listened. I liked Hustler but that morning show has been horrible for years.  But, to treat your staff that way? Embarrassing.

Let's talk is honestly the biggest joke in Canadian marketing. Key word - marketing, because that's all it is.

turns out it wasn't the only one 1040 and 1150 are gone too

to not tell the employees first is sickening..... that f***ing company, man....

Brutal. Enjoyed listening to Hustler during the drive home. God help us now that we only have CJOB for sports talk. 15 minutes of content, 45 minutes of commercials. It was nice having another voice. Sad day indeed.

What a ******* dogshit corporation.

Let's Talk only seems to apply to their scam day, not actually treating its employees or customers with any decency.

**** Bell.

So, what does CJOB do now? They have the Jets and the Bombers, with the coaches show. How do they balance providing sports news without taking away from their regular news and talk shows? They don't want to alienate anyone but some will be looking for more sports content. Tough balancing act.

Utterly despicable. Nothing but scumbuckets at Bell Media.

They've been doing it for years, so I don't suspect a lot will change. Keep in mind, this isn't the first time they've had the rights to all teams. They've got good, smart people in that building...hopefully Corus is smart and keeps them all happy.

I wonder what kind of music the station is playing at the moment (hey to be honest I'm curious to find out)

They will add more commercials now that they have a captive audience.

As the only radio station carrying the Jets & Bombers they'll take it on & increase their sports content. I look for their sports department to grow by at least 2 people. More sportstalk in the evening, perhaps?

Oh my that will draw them in

That's....new at least to me it is, what will they broadcast? JFL's archives? Vinyl Cafe reruns? Air Farce radio archives? something totally and completely new (let's face it the content I named aren't possible because CBC has a tight hold on them)

Unlike satellite radio where they can play all the R rated comedy acts and bits.... I don't see how a PG comedy channel survives.

Haven't listened to radio close 15 and counting, feel bad for all the people that lost their jobs as their chosen field has less and less openings for employment, other than that TSN changing formats doesn't effect me at all.

It's not surprising since radio *should* be a dying business,  it still really sucks.   I can't imagine enough local interest in the guys going on their own and running a youtube, podcast, something else as a full time job.

Was the station losing money?

paying three morning, the noon guy, and two afternoon guys plus support.

not enough people listening I guess.

just sports all day always seemed a bit boring to me.

With handing the Jet audiocast over to CJOB, it sure looks like this was planned for some time.

Losing Jets radio was probably nail in coffin.

I would be curious to see the timeline on this. Did they bid and fail? Did they not bid at all?

so the Comedy thing....they've been doing this for awhile now. Did it in Calgary about 10 years ago....and other markets as well. It's extremely cheap for them because there's no announcers, basically. It's all pre-programmed stuff that is CHEEEEEEEEAP. It's a major $$$ saver for them.

TSN1290 was comedy, I'm sure, before they switched up to sports, bringing in the ESPN coverage.

For some reason this doesn't surprise me

so if the article didn't mention it, I will. The new 1290 will launch on friday at 9 am, and considering what I was listening to on the radio I kind of wish they would keep the music and try to have a Lite music station again
