2019 Main Training Camp

(2019 Main Training Camp

Can’t remember a start to a main training camp where, even though we have openings at several spots (7?), we seem to have prepared to fill those spots with quality players and good prospects.

Highlights coming into camp are the signings of Willie Jefferson and most certainly Chris Mathews. Not to mention the signing of all our draft choices, some of whom could be dynamic.

We got bigger and better at receiver prospects.

We’ve stacked the defensive line to make it easier for Bighill.

We’ve added defensive backs and linebackers to fill any perceived shortcomings.

Little by little, day by day, shortcomings will be noticed and those players will fall by the wayside.

It’s training camp and the veterans will teach the newbies..in more than one way.

Today, medicals and film room. Good luck to all. Let’s put out the best lineup we possibly can.

Does anyone have a summary of the "roster rules" for 2019?

I have the one for last year:

https://www.cfl.ca/game-rule-ratio/

and it called for a total of 46 players broken down as:

21 Non-Imports

20 Imports

3 qb's

2 reserve players  (full pay but don't dress)

I know that the new CBA made some adjustments, but I'm just not sure what the rules are.    It's hard to speculate on the cuts/final roster without knowing the rules

The same... plus 1 global player.

Plus NI QB's are considered NI's IF they start.

My week one roster projection assuming everyone who is injured stays injured by that point (IR and PR are split into columns just to save space, no significance to the split):

You have Hecht starting ahead of Jones?

Think they have Warren higher than Temple. Wonder how they use the DI's.

I wonder if they cut Augustine to make room for someone else on the PR?

Pretty sure they are going to have PR a global player too so they have someone in case Hansen gets hurt.

Ok.    So here is my  first draft.   I admit there are some unusual picks such as Washington with one of the receiver spots, and Greenberg as the long snapper of the future.  Starting Canadians are bold and underlined.

3 QBs:   15 Nichols, 17 Streveler, 18 Bennett

OL Imports:  66 Bryant, 51 Hardrick

OL Non-imports:  53 Neufeld, 59 Couture, 68 Gray, 62 Speller

Rec Imports:  1 Adams, 80 Matthews,  6 Washington,  87 Whitehead

Rec Non-Imports:  10 Demski, 82 Wolitarsky, 81 Petermann

RB Non-Imports: 33 Harris, 27 Augustine, 20 Olivera, 32 Rush, 24 Miller

DL Imports:  94 Jeffcoat, 5 Jefferson, 93 Roh, 96 Bryant, 92 Nevis

DL Non-Imports:   95 Thomas, 78 Griffiths

LB Imports:  4 Bighill, 19 Wilson, 36 Temple

LB Non-Imports:  25 Lalama, 34 Briggs, 44 Gauthier

LB International 2.0:  Hansen

DB Import (Inc Sam)  37 Alexander, 14 Sayles, 22 Fenner, 23 Gaitor, 30 Rose,

DB Non-Imports:  0 Jones,  29 Hecht,  42 Firlotte,

K Import:  9 Medlock

LS  Non-Import:   97 Greenberg

I don't think either one is good enough to be a starter but looks to me like Hecht won the job.

I have a theory that they might surprise everyone by keeping Ortiz. As the backup kicker he will fulfil the roster spot requirement and he will never get injured. He would also give us a legitimate option if Medlock gets hurt in-game so we don't have to use a receiver or someone else as our kicker.

As soon as I make my wild picks, they cut Firlotte.  Funny thing is that he was the last one I put on the board.

There is no way they PR Desjarlais. He might not make the 44 but at worst he is on the two man reserve. Fairly certain the two man is one of Speller or Desjarlais with McGloster the other.

I doubt Neufeld will be ready to go next week, with no TC, no pre-season games, it will be tough for him to jump into game action from a conditioning standpoint.  There is a good chance they start Grey, Couture and Desjarlais against BC.

Agree. I was responding to one of the predicted rosters that another poster posted.

To be fair, Baumming was on TSN wondering if Desjarlais might end up on the PR, Baumming sounded like he didn't realize there was a two man reserve. I mean, its your job, do some research dude.
