Round 2 - Game 4: Predators @ Jets

1516JETS017_MTSCentre-VS-Graphics_620x33

Thursday, CBC, SN  at 8:30 p.m.

Tagline: "Whiteout vs. Yellow Snow"

Storyline: After an epic comeback, Jets try to take a stranglehold on the heavyweight series.

Quote: “Our fans are huge.  It’s real too.  Our crowd noise is from the crowd.  It’s not from speakers, or music, or live bands, or whatever.  That’s people making noise and that goes right through your body.” - Blake Wheeler

Quote #2: “I mean, I’m not going to comment on the officiating, but..... (starts a one minute tirade on the officiating)" - PK Subban

Fun facts aplenty: The 7 goals ties an all-time Jets playoff record for one game......First ever Jets game to be played in May......First comeback from 3 goals down by any team in the playoffs this year (0-28 prior to last night), first Jets comeback from that much since the Toronto 5-4 OT win in October 2016 (Laine's first hat-trick), and first 3 goal comeback win in regulation in the playoffs since Calgary in 2015.....Hellebuyck won his 50th game of the season (regular season and playoffs combined) last night, the 31st time that has ever happened.....there are 4 other goalies (Rinne, Vasileysky, Holtby, and Rask) who could reach that mark this year, there has never been a season where more than 2 have done it in the same year, at most, 4 could all reach that mark this year when it's all said and done if the playoffs play out a certain way...he is the 6th American goalie to hit that mark, joining Barrasso, Richter (who holds the American record with 58 wins), Thomas, Quick, and Bishop.....Bernie Parent and Martin Brodeur hold the all-time record with 59 wins in one year, playoffs included.....Brodeur hit 50 wins a record 4 times, no one else did it more than twice

It feels nostalgic reading posts blaming Maurice for losses again. Wade Flaherty probably had something to do with it too.

  • Yeah this one is totally on the fourth line... if only Roslo was in for Hendricks we would have blown them out.

Preds are scratching Fiala and putting in Hartnell. I'm a fan of this move. Hartnell's not very good anymore.

All the people I know who were casual fans prior to the playoffs are now obsessed. Many non-fans are now engaged. And the hardcore fans? They all have heart conditions. #nhljets  Bartley Kives

With someone who uses HardCore in their moniker to describe where I stand with the Bombers and Jets, Bartley Kives twitter statement above sums it up nicely.

Armia is an upgrade over Roslo so I'm not complaining.

Yes, but is Hendricks an upgrade over Roslovic?

Absolutely not IMO.

Grit, experience, locker room presence versus speed and athleticism?

Although MH grit and experience pissed me off royally in game three.

Sure, Hendricks has grit and is apparently a good guy in the room, but to me, he's a liability out there.  This game is just too fast for him.

Let him hang out in the locker room pregame and between periods, if that's the main reason he's in the lineup.

The bigger question is - will we all need liver transplants by the time these playoffs are over?  And is Gimli pumping out enough rye to keep up with demand?

These playoff games for the life long hardcore fans are so intense that maybe not watching is a good thing which is ironic.

Roslovic is clearly the better player than Hendricks at this point, the only thing I can really guess at is that Hendricks is a left shot and Roslovic a right shot, so Armia comes in for Roslovic.  But that's pretty soft.

man I hope the fans dress accordingly since it's supposed to be boomer tonight but it might be passing as we speak

Last game was such an extreme of highs and lows...  from abject misery and an endless string of cursing, to untold heights of delirious joy.  Here in Edmonton, I’m sure my neighbours would have called the cops, except they knew I was home watching a Jets game lol.

Curses, 1-0 preds after one

but the jets will start the second period on a PP

anyone see that guy dressed as Waldo when they did the outside shots?

2nd period

God I hate Subban 2-0 preds

seriously guys stay out of the damn box and score already

WTF is up with the Jets?

Can someone tell the Jets to score please!

Jets look flat. No energy. Nash playing boring heavy D.. Have taken the crowd out of it completely.

Not sure theres a comeback tonight.. They just look off.

I would really like it if the Jets would put the preds on the brink tonight

Very disappointed on coaching and leadership tonight. That’s not how you play at home when you can take a stranglehold. Get it together.

Had the chance to put the foot down ....   might be the turning point of this series.

oh joy game 6 forced

oh look Laine finally scored but it's a little late no shutout for you nash

could really use scheif here

I live in Sherwood Park, we should move closer and really entertain the neighbors.

I agree.

If nashville wins two straight this hangs on Maurice. Very very badly.

They torpedoed their own fourth line. We talk about depth all season and they purposely scratch Roslo in favour of Hendricks who admits the game is too fast for him?  Bonehead decision.

Roslo needs to be back next game. And if Perrault has at least one functioning arm, he should be considered too.

If Hendricks is great in the room, great. Keep him there. How does being great in the room translate to being terrible on the ice.

Yup, felt like 90's hockey. Boring. So what's Maurice and company's plan to combat their scheme? Because if I'm Nashville, I'm thinking we just drew up the perfect blueprint to beat the Jets much like that game back in January when the Wild beat us, slowed the game down, clogged up the middle, no flow.

This critical juncture in the series is where our coaching needs to respond with their own blue print in how to beat the Preds heavy D approach.

That point is also interesting as I was watching Jon Cooper's post game interview for the Lightning the other night make the point of how difficult it is for his players to get themselves up for each game of the playoffs. Intuitively I thought this would be the opposite where this high and getting energized would naturally happen but when I think about it that point makes sense and maybe (some of) the Jet players weren't ready to play last night.
