US Politics

Lets see if we can keep this thread a little more civil.

I found this interview very interesting.  A lot of soft balls thrown at Trump, he explained his back pedalling on his more extreme issues as a lot of his claims as opening bids for negotiation purposes.  Which .. whatever .. I still think that those are insincere claims he used to get elected.

He does now come across way more presidential then he did prior to the election.  A lot of his noise, yelling, and rhetoric has been scaled back.

Do respect this one though:

Quote

Lesley Stahl: Are you gonna take the salary, the president’s salary?

Donald Trump: Well, I’ve never commented on this, but the answer is no. I think I have to by law take $1, so I’ll take $1 a year. But it’s a -- I don’t even know what it is.

Donald Trump: Do you know what the salary is?

Lesley Stahl: $400,000 you’re giving up.

Donald Trump: No, I’m not gonna take the salary. I’m not taking it.

Seeking asylum is legal immigration process but that didn't stop ICE from throwing them in detention centres.

Like every other administration before him. Breaking immigration  law has consequences.

so it's OK to violate basic human rights against law breakers? You know damned well that it's not all "illegals" getting caught up in this either.

Also convenient how you ignored the other part of the post. No comments about how Trump is not actually engaging in free market capitalism? There's plenty of corporate socialism going on. But hey why stop and think critically right? Better to just believe things and pretend they are real.

I wish we didn't share the same space as them.

Just amazing that people will believe that Trump pulling numbers out of his ass knows more than people who's entire job is to study these things.

The anti-intellectualism in the world right now makes my brain hurt.

And they're proud of it.

They don't like facts that disagree with their beliefs, so they reject evidence and science to worship their leader.

Trump made it okay to be a moron and they spew their stupidity everywhere.

I mean, surely there's evidence of this widespread illegal immigrant voting now, right?

Just one example of Alt-right stupidity campaign that we see here, never mind elsewhere.

And racism.  The idea of "enforcing immigration law" is just a political way of being an open racist.  Facts no longer matter.  Its funny, cause I think back to all the conspiracy theories about W. and it was laughable, but now...if Trump wins, it could get very very bad.  History tells us what can happen but people wont believe it can happen here.

FTFY. Seriously, that is some next level Orwellian **** going on down there right now. And I'm not sure what's worse, the administration itself or the cult of followers eating it all up thinking it's "great" for the nation.

Part of me doesn't blame a good chunk of those trump supporters... I mean have you seen what goes don down there? conservative talk radio on everywhere, so many people watch fox and are dragged into conservative radio and tv because of their co-workers, friends and families... toss in facebook and man- it's nuts, propaganda on a level never dreamt of. It is literally brainwashing people. It has gotten so bad that it's no longer offering an alternate reality, it's so load and total, that it's pushing hard as being the only reality... it's ****** up. Like really ****** up.

many of those people are victims.

Lol. "Orwellian" like:

Gender is a construct.

Men can have periods and give birth

Women can have penises and be fathers.

Race is a construct. But some races need protection .

Race and gender don't actually exist but racism and sexism must be destroyed.

Pro science and so intellectual too.

Some backgrounder to Trump blaming Obama for the Coronavirus:

In 2018, the Trump Administration cut 80 percent of CDC funding used to fight global pandemics. The funding support, which went to training local health professionals and bolstering emergency response across 49 countries, was reduced to just 10 nations. China wasn’t included in the revised list.

The Trump Administration opted to discontinue a Bush-era program expanded under Obama—called “Predict”—that monitored the threat of animal-born diseases to humans, the possible origin point of the novel coronavirus. The program was behind the discovery of more than 1,000 viruses, including an Ebola strain.

Just last month, in its 2021 budget, the Trump administration announced proposed cuts that would reduce CDC funding by 16 percent and slash $3 billion for global health programs.

In 2018, the National Security Council’s global pandemic director and his entire team was disbanded by former national security adviser John Bolton. The Trump administration has yet to refill any of those positions,

A brazen racist and terrified of Biden

Remembering when Trump was terrified of Avenatti, Kamala, Buttigieg,  Sanders, Warren...

Well he is generally a low self esteem person. Everything he does indicates that.  Say what you want about Avenatti, but Trump was implicated in a federal crime thanks to his efforts (and his clients).  But I must have missed when he conspired/extorted/bribed a foreign nation to try and kneecap those other potential opponents.

I sort of miss the old days of unabashed Trump cult members pretending to hate him and just "playing devils advocate".  But I suppose, score one for honesty, even if its gross.

Ignorance and small mindedness. The hallmarks of trump supporters.

Terrified of the world moving forward.

So Warren drops out but it looks like she wont endorse anyone.  Smart.  She'll be the kingmaker eventually, even if only behind the scenes.  Where will her supporters go though?  Seems that many will go to Biden

Best of all is that mouth-breathing dingbat doesn't even know what the term Orwellian means. Destruction of an open and free society. Draconian policy. Use of propaganda. Disinformation. Denial of facts.

I think I've stated it before in this thread but hope ol' Con-troll Zonty never gets to see his CFL team win a championship again. Talking about gender and race as though it applies to Orwellian condition is the most asinine thing he's posted in this thread - and that's saying something considering the track record of stupidity.

When progressives have to face up to the absurdities of their own newly discovered  cherished beliefs "critical thinking" , "logic" and "science" goes out the window and it's reduced to point and splutter personal attacks.

Pointing  out inconsistencies and absurdiities in ideologies is fair game. Just don't try and sell people that "progressives" have cornered the market on logic and morality....when it fails so clearly on many facets like so many other ideologies.
