The spotter is specifically looking for concussion symptoms, not writhing on the ground & not to take players off the field to make sure they don't have a serious injury. If I was the Riders staff, I'd have taken him off for a 3 plays to assess the injury, but it's not up to the refs.

The hit on Shoen wasn't a missed call even tho it could have resulted in a serious injury. Targeting isn't in the rule book and you can't decide what's in a players mind especially in the split second real time that a ref needs to make their decisions.

Interesting that if it wasn't a missed call on Schoen the league fined Baltimore for the high hit on him. High hits above the shoulder pads are illegal and normally draws an unnecessary roughness penalty. The one on Collaris should have been called too as he was hit in the head.

Football Operations Series - Week #15 - Blow To The Head - CFL.ca I would strongly disagree. Both the Schoen blow to the head and the Collaris blow to the head was missed should have been called for unnecessary roughness. Please see the attached explanation.

    1. I wish Tsn would make full game replays available.

guess somehow they think that would cost them some subscriptions.

probably about 11 seconds to actually do it.

    2. their ios app is a bit quirky.

    3. suitor and sideshow nielsen  are annoying, but thats easy to deal with. Mute.

other than that, glad to have reliable cfl games for twenty bucks a month. Good deal.

If you have TSN Direct , they do have full game replays available on TSN on Demand.

If we're going to change the field size it should be to 100 Meters. Uniquely Canadian. Still 110 yards.

My personal rule change never gets brought up: Missed FG that goes through the endzone without being touched = zero points. Allows for missed FG's to be run back, but doesn't reward misses with a single point unless you can tackle the returner in the endzone.

IMO the CFL is going about this all wrong. The rules are great as is. Changing rules won't get more fans in the stands or more fans watching on TV & that's what the CFL needs.

Changing to metric was tried for a couple of seasons and found to be a very bad idea. 10 meters for a first down is almost 11 yards. Changing to 9 meters for a first down complicates the math. I kind of like the missed field goal going through the end zone = 0 points though. Might add more excitement to the kicking game.

The young guys coming up are all throwing the ball the new way. No more stepping into the throw. This ain't the way your Daddy threw the ball.  ;)

Dom has a brick between the ears for brains. He's been in the league for 7 years & he's just as dumb now as he was a rookie. Let's assume Prukop has a better grasp for reading defenses & making the right decisions.

I never noticed that before, but ya you are right, looking again at that film its less leg and more shoulder and arm torque. I wonder if that's for better accuracy.

  6. Ouch, that's awful expensive for flag football, for a lot of people that don't qualify for assistance. When we ran our tackle program in the North End in the 70's and 80's we found ways to reduce the costs including having socials and bingos to support the clubs. We raised our profile from one team of 20 kids to a dozen with over 600 kids in less than a decade by doing this.  The key was keeping it affordable and having good programs with knowledgeable coaches. It's no wonder that kids sports are mostly soccer now as that's what working parents can easily budget for. To keep kids in these programs we need to find unique ways to fund and keep costs low. $245 for 8-10 GAMES OF FLAG FOOTBALL IS CRAZY! Sounds like they are trying to offload field costs which is just stupid! I remember when we bought the Hawkeye's field for $1 and the city agreed to cover the taxes for the next century. I guess things are done differently now.

The Bombers made the playoffs the 5 seasons Clements was here. They were Grey Cup contenders every season & a Grey Cup winner in 1984. He was also the CFL MOP & Grey Cup MVP. Like Clements, Collaros won't have a long career here either due to his age but he'll still be a deserving addition to the ROH as well after his retirement. It's not so much the years put in as the body of work by Clements which in his case was truly outstanding.

Ya I would give a ROH to Clements just even for the short time he was here mainly because of that amazing 84 season, ending another long drought. Brock got a ROH and even though he was a great QB, he could never perform in the big game. I would put Clements over Brock any day. I think I still have my old Brock Busters T-shirt from that game.

  8. Far as I remember, no team ever won or lost a Grey Cup in February. Great teams are bound to lose key components and with a salary cap no way can you reward everyone. Walters said he would have to make tough choices and he did well in my mind to keep as much of the core together as possible. It's always tough to lose a legend but the alternative might have been tougher to swallow in the bigger picture.

  9. This is my perspective as a potential listener/customer as I am very passionate about anything Bombers or CFL. You might have a great podcast, but you 1) Have to give listeners a reason to tune to you (You have done this by advertising good subject matter here.). 2) You must be able to keep them intrigued and wanting more during the opening portion - this is the time when a boring opening or song makes it easiest for the listener to start channel surfing. 3) If you catch someone channel surfing you need to immediately capture their attention with something interesting. By having 5 or more minutes of preamble about your life and family (something for sure you should be proud of and celebrate) just bores the crap out of someone like me who does not know you. I didn't know anything about Bob Irving's family until this year because when he talks football , he talks football and that's what it's about. If you were just doing this podcast for people who know you or your family then you are doing it right. If you are looking to capture a wider audience I would suggest 1) Stay to the subject matter 2) Start off with shorter more intense podcasts and make your listener want more so they will come back. Like I say this is just my opinion as a potential listener in your target audience. Good luck and I am always willing to read or listen to any good Bomber or CFL topics.

  10. Just my take on your podcast, not trying to be to critical, but when I turn on something to listen to when I go for a walk I want to hear the subject matter in this case the Bombers Grey Cup inside scoop, not all the useless to me preamble. You might get and retain more listeners if you shortened the content and stuck on the topic more. Just my opinion.

Bill Belichek couldn't win with that team let alone Reinbold. That idiot GM we had at the time Ken Bishop who owned Road Runner Courier was out of his league. He gave Reinbold nothing to work with. We had an All World receiver in Milt Stegall & that was it.

Reinbold had the run of the team, he was the one making player personal decisions and unless you rode a Harley you wouldn't be one of his players. This is where Miller really grew and learned how not to manage a franchise. Reinbold was and always has been smoke and mirrors, talked a good game but can't walk the walk. I think this helped formulate Miller as he was a workaholic but could see the folly in the ways of all show and no go.

Jeff Reinbold is leaving Hamilton. No announcement as to what is next. Will be interesting if he finally gets a shot as a HC? Who needs one?

yeah, you have to think, knowing what he knows now, would Lapo have taken the head coaching gig in Ottawa?

He for sure would have taken it even if it was a worse tire fire. Very few new head coaches get to be handed a winning combination from the get go and those that do seldom are able to keep it. He knew what he was getting into and needed to prove himself. We should respect him for that.

I was born in '80, so I never really got to see Moon play, but I still have to think he's the best to ever do it in this league. One of those guys who shoulda never been anywhere other than the NFL, but for that systemic, centuries-old racism down there. Disgusting. What a hero that guy is. Flutie, shoulda never been here, but for being a few inches too short. We have been pretty lucky with our little boutique league, to have players of that calibre up here, even for a short while...

Earlier than that NFL caliber QBs such as Glenn Dobbs came up here and were paid more than in the 4 down league. Even though he played for the Riders it's a great story. Top 10 games at Mosaic Stadium: Glenn Dobbs quarterbacked Roughriders to 1951 West title | Regina Leader Post

So, he's not ready at all. Does Castillio punt?

But do you keep the guy around for his entire developmental time? Cameron famously got cut by 6 or 7 teams and didn't stick with us until he was 27 yo.

Do we let Liegghio keep doing crappy punts for another season until he's "ready"?

    I think I agree.

I think Liegghio has turned into a very good punter. There's a lot more to punting than distance. Directional punting and hang time are just or maybe even more important and I thought he was getting pretty good at that.
