If you've been knocked out .. you've suffered a concussion. That's not true. A concussion is a very specific injury and there's a lot of misinformation out there. You also don't have to be knocked out to suffer one. I've been in sessions done by the Dr. who works with the NHL on concussion research. He also said you heal almost instantly, the actual injury that is. You may suffer some lasting effects however. Everyone is different. He said the most dangerous aspect is taking a second hit shortly after. As in the same day. You can recover quite quickly from one. If you have been knocked out .. you have suffered a concussion. Full stop. Here's the actual medical definition for you: "The formal medical definition of concussion is a clinical syndrome characterized by immediate and transient alteration in brain function, including alteration of mental status and level of consciousness, resulting from mechanical force or trauma." Simply put, a concussion IS a traumatic brain injury. It's not more specific than that. There are a host of accompanying symptoms and those resulting symptoms can manifest themselves differently in each individual but I'd suggest that being knocked out is an "alteration of mental status and level of consciousness". ;-) I would agree with you if the knockout came as a result of his brain being rattled causing him to go unconscious. However, as a martial artist, I can tell you that there are several areas on the human body that can be struck causing a loss of consciousness that does not result in a concussion, just simply stops the blood flow to the brain temporarily. They are called pressure points and can cause a loss of consciousness and even temporary paralysis. From what I saw of the hit it sure looked like a pressure point loss of blood flow could have occurred. Two spots that render a person unconscious without causing a concussion are the side of the neck (carotid artery) and the point of the chin which also disrupts blood flow from the carotid to the brain and can cause unconsciousness (along with several other pressure points along the human body) that are not concussion related. Have you ever seen a boxer knocked out by a body punch? Happens all the time. Think he suffered a concussion? If so, I am not sure you understand the medical terminology you are reading. Being rendered unconscious is just a common symptom of a concussion, it does not create the concussion. Your brain being slammed into your skull is what causes a concussion. In my martial arts training, I have seen several people knocked unconscious by very slight pinpoint blows to the side of the neck. Sometime just a jab of a thumb from an inch away. They were not concussed. Knocked out....yeah...concussed...nope. Just a temporary disruption of blood flow and it's sleepy time. You cannot knock someone unconscious with a body shot (liver shot), immobilize them, TKO yeah. Not render them unconscious. With your extensive MA training, you should know this. Pin-point blows to the side of the neck, really? You'd be better off using a closed fist punch, much more effective and a much higher chance of landing. Edit: Punching someone in the neck is a very dangerous technique and can cause a fatality. Only use such techniques if you are in danger of losing your own life.

Not putting our loss on the refs, but after watching a weekend of football, I can't believe how atrocious the zebras are. I'm expecting a long and horrid season due to their incompetence. Game changing incompetence. That is all. YMMV.

Because if they pencil Frolik in there permanently, then Frolik is right to ask for more money. I doubt Ehlers plays here next season as a 4LW. If he can play either side that would help. The X factor might be Burmi. If Frolik demands big dollars, Burmi could be an option at 3RW a lot cheaper than Frolik,. I don't think they want to bring up any prospects to play on the fourth line. They need more ice than that.

There's no doubt Pavelec has been on a hot streak recently. I acknowledged that. But he's now cooling off as he always does, leveling back to his usual below average self. If you're happy with below average, you're entitled to your opinion, but we as Jets fans should demand better than sub-par from our starting goaltender. Why not change your username to IHatePavs and we could dispense with your incessant moaning?

Some of these suggestions here are ridiculous. In a previous post I suggested that TNSE buyout Pavelec, then sign or trade for a "league average" gosltender for the next couple years until Hellebuyck is ready. Price and Rinne are elite goaltenders. All I'm asking for is league average. Why would we buyout Pavelec? You do know the compliance buyouts from the lockout are over? And while you can technically still buy a player out, you don't get the benefits of no cap hit. Teams just never buy players out, and there is a reason for that. If the Jets decide they don't want Pavelec anymore, he will be sent to the minors in the hopes that A) Someone would pick him up off waivers or Want to trade for him down the road when injuries hit. He only has two years left so it would be the more prudent thing to do. As for signing or trading for a better then "average" goalie, you do realize that by definition half the goalies out there are below average. So who is going to trade us an "above average" goalie, and what are you prepared to give up to get him? Especially when you've said yourself you just want a stop gap for a couple of years. As for free agents, here are a few of the higher profile goalie free agents this year, which do you want that you would consider "better then average" Antti Niemi (whose stats this year are close to but a little worse then Pavelec), Viktor Fasth, Josh Harding, Karri Ramo, Devan Dubnyk (Be shocked if Minnesota doesn't sign him before UFA starts), Niemi is probably the most interesting of those names (Dubnyk aside), but the Jets aren't going to be looking to spend a whole lot of money after either buying Pavelec out or paying for his salary in the minors, and they would also be competing with other teams on salary out there. And I wouldn't say Niemi is a slam dunk of a goalie either, Goalies are such a strange bunch. Dubnyk was a journeyman goalie after being mired in Edmonton before going to Nashville and Arizona. He was so highly thought of (definitely would have been considered below "league average" ) that his current contract is for 800k with Arizona before being traded to Minnesota where he had his magical resurgence in front of that Minny D. It is so easy to sit there and say Pavelec is below average and we should trade or sign better. In practice it is much harder, with goalies more so then any other position. Proven consistent goalies just aren't traded (unless you are dysfunctional like Vancouver, but they traded away their goalies already). UFA goalies are going to be hit and miss, you are likely going to be taking a chance on a below average goalie hoping he becomes something better under your team. Minnesota lucked out with that scenario because of injuries and being forced to having to trade for Dubnyk. Pavelec isn't going anywhere until the Jets know for sure they have something better then him. Otherwise you are just the Bombers who traded away Kevin Glenn because everyone hated him and were stuck with Lefors at QB. In reality, where NHL GMs have to do their jobs, it isn't as easy as a snap of the fingers to trade for or sign a proven "better then average goalie" - there is only about 15 of those and most teams aren't trading them, especially when you've admitted yourself you just want one as a stop gap until the younger kids come up. We aren't going to be giving up a whole lot of assets in that scenario. I fully understand compliance buyouts are over, but there are regular buyouts that come with certain advantages, especially for non cap teams. But I get it that TNSE won't do it. Guys I would have gone after in past free agency are guys like Hiller or Halak. Several other guys who have been available through FA or trade I would have gone after and would be an upgrade over Pavelec. I'm sure there are others available through trade. Pavs has a no move contract, you may want to factor that into your hatred for him.

After watching Pavs just post his first ever back-to-back shutouts, I fail to see what the fuss about Pavs is all about. He's keeping us in the hunt, and doing a damn fine job of it.

Sure its a hockey play, but it is an illegal one. It is called cross checking. And he did it to Perreault at the end of a play where it wouldn't normally be expected. Unfortunate for Carcillo, but they suspend based on the result and reputation. He has a bad reputation and the result was he took Perreault out for at least that game. Unfortunate for Carcillo, really? The only unfortunate thing about him is he's in the league. He's a beer league talent, why is he even on the ice?
