Richards already knows the playbook and what he needs to do. All he has to do is beat out JFG and he starts.
The whole point of training camp for rookies or newbies is to not only sort the keepers out but also to teach them the playbook, so already knowing it shouldn't be that much of an advantage. I am neither for Richards nor against him, but he has to be under the gun to cook or get off the stove. I would think that if any of the NI newbies show any significant promise, Richards will be in trouble- at best trade bait to the Riders.

I can't see Richards being cut no matter what he shows in TC, there just isn't enough depth right now. Even if they pick up a receiver in the draft, he won't be starting.
And this is different from Richards how?

Unfortunately how many homegrown players stay with the same team anymore? We draft ,develop then they usually take off as a free agent for bigger bucks...it's almost like we guarantee a certain amont of Cdn players will get the big bucks (relatively speaking) plus the NFL is now competing in the draft for the best Cdn something is gotta give....
I would rather watch a Canadian player from Sarnia, ON or Vegreville, AB than an American from Detroit or Houston. Yup- I am a homer.

I would bet that fewer homegrown players would translate to fewer Canadian viewers of CFL games- it would diminish the appeal for me.

This move would make a lot of sense to me. He can add depth and rotate with Jake Thomas. Hopefully we can draft a beast to contribute to the DT position as well.
So, what's to lose?

If I was an Argo fan I'd be so unexcited for the Popp hiring. He was one of the worst GM's in the CFL the last few years of his time in Montreal. Now, Trestman? Different story. Popp should be on a short leash as it is & told that if he ever wants to coach again he'll be fired.
Realistically, with the very short time frame, and with the selection as limited as it was, it was probably as good as it could be under the circumstances. Besides, Trestman said he would come to Canada only if Popp was part of the package.

Woods sounds a diamond in the rough. And worth a late round pick.

Cummings never did quite live up to his advance billing. He mostly looked average.

Wonder if Cody Heiman is on any CFL neg list. Sounds like he's got CFL MLB written all over him.
He has the raw talent and drive but he would be a project.

Why do people just give Ryan Smith a defacto lock to make this team? if anything he's the one who should be on the bubble, not Denmark.
So long as we have real good competition at training camp, whoever wins out be good. From the looks of things, we ought to have a darned good receiving corps.

it was probably the worst schemed defense I ever saw. Great athletic plays caused turnovers. We can't expect that to happen again.
I have real mixed feelings about Hall's return. He is a veteran defensive coach who has been tot the Grey Cup, and ought to know his stuff, but some of his defensive adjustments (or lack thereof) caused me to scratch my head. But it is not much of a surprise and it confirms the suspicions of many that O'Shea is utterly loyal- even to a fault. Maybe a better pass rush which was noticeably absent for much of last season will make things better for Hall's defence. Now all we need is a good MLB to emerge from the pack. It might be Smith.

I've lurked on Riderfans in the past, but really, who gives a flying frack? That's their business, whether they stand or fall as a fan forum. My experience says that if the nuts take over the forum, the sane people leave, and eventually the forum implodes and shuts down. That said, let us show a decent level of respect to visiting CFL fans, so long as they reciprocate. That doesn't mean we will stop insulting them in good measure.
Full disclosure: I lived in Regina for 5 years, and met a lot of good people who were only distantly related to each other, and only a few had vestigial tails and more than 5 digits on each hand or foot.

But Popp was also undermined by the owner, right? I'm forgetting the timeline but it seems like everything truly fell apart AFTER he named himself HC.
Well, everything started falling apart when Calvillo retired...
It was a perfect storm- Calvillo got old, Trestman left and the ownership's involvement changed. Who knows- maybe Popp will do better in Toronto.

Drew Tate??? decent qb?? career backup and a nut job. We need a starter

Tate to Ottawa is an interesting move... smart play Desjardins to secure some insurance for Harris... a lot of us are eating crow on Desjardins as a GM... I remember how we spoke about him when he was hired...
Anyways... I'm curious to know how the Rider fans are spinning this... knowing a decent QB was on the market and they missed out...
Bur really, would you prefer to live in Pile O' Bones or Ottawa? No contest, particularly with having to look and listen to Chris Jones every day.

I just dont see it happening. Even without Hervey and Jones' history, the riders could very well be 1 piece away (QB) from becoming a potential threat, and if your edmonton who only went 9-9 last year and lucked out to cross over, would you want to strengthen your direct competition?
There's so many variables to consider such as Reilly's health, your own QB depth, division rival..etc that just make a trade of this magnitude unlikely in my eyes
Unless that quarterback was Doug Flutie, the answer would be no. Snort.

It was a race to get likes. We'll have to find other ways to get them I guess. My vote is still for more Rider/Saskatchewan inbred hillbilly jokes.
