  1. Nice to see the nasty streak end. Great job by Willy, Cotton and the O-line. Rider fans cry and commiserate by making out with cousins Skeeter and Bessie.
  2. In a team by team analysis, Duane Ford grades the Bombers' Canadian content as a C+. The only team with a worse grade is Ottawa. http://www.tsn.ca/winnipeg-blue-bombers-season-preview-1.297990?dgjdfsetsdhgdfjdfg Since becoming the Blue Bombers general manager during the 2013 season, Kyle Walters has made it a priority to upgrade the Canadian talent base of a team that hadn’t drafted well for the better part of a generation. Acting aggressively in free agency over the last two off-seasons, Winnipeg has added potential starters in cornerback Matt Bucknor, linebacker Sam Hurl, receiver Julian Feoli-Gudino, and centre Dominic Picard; along with solid depth/special teams players Graig Newman and Ivan Brown. Meanwhile, the last two drafts have yielded highly regarded O-Line prospects Matthias Goossen and Sukh Chungh, who should push veterans Picard, Chris Greaves, and Pat Neufeld for playing time as the season progresses; as well as receiver Addison Richards. Using a “by any means necessary” approach, Walters has also added kicker Lirim Hajrullahu (undrafted free agent), former NFL defensive end Jamaal Westerman (free agent after gaining National status), and linebacker Garrett Waggoner (supplemental draft). The Bombers hope that one or both of the latter two defenders can emerge as the kind of ratio breaker the team has lacked since Henoc Muamba’s departure prior to last season. Maybe he feels the additions of Waggoner and Westerman don't do much to improve the Canadian content of the team as they have yet to prove themselves in the CFL? No proven ratio breakers on the Bombers so that probably accounts for the low score. Agree or disagree with his grade? Why or why not? 3. Canada didn't play Korea. They played China.
  4. -10 and with the wind chill it ranged from -17 to -19
  5. With TSN no longer owning NHL rights, you'd think they wouldn't mind competing with the Stanley Cup Finals. Starting the regular season two weeks in advance won't interfere with the Stanley Cup Playoffs, maybe one or two NHL games at most. Just have to try the first week of CFL games to coincide with off days for the Stanley Cup finals...and since the finals always seem to have a game each Saturday, schedule the first CFl games on a Fri and Sunday. I think this is a great idea. Moving the schedule up two weeks would allow the Grey Cup to be played around November 10 -14th. This won't entirely eliminate the chance of the Grey Cup being played in minus 10 or worse temperatures, but it will reduce the likelihood by several percentage points.
  6. Ask for an outrageous amount - $200 million - and settle for $20 million, assuming they have a legitimate case. Ask for a not-so-outrageous amount - $20 million - and settle for $5 - $10 million assuming they have a legitimate case.
  7. I'm not sure how I feel. I understand your point of view but I also believe that the CFL and NFL have been less than responsible when it comes to brain injuries and they should have to answer for that. If the CFL misled the players as the NFL did to their players with the info packages they gave several seasons ago (ie. it's perfectly safe to play shortly after sustaining a severe blow to the head or concussion and playing shortly after sustaining a concussion will not increase the likelihood of receiving another concussion) then the league probably deserved to be sued.
  8. Whenever I want to know what a player makes I just check out Nasty Nate old posts here and elsewhere. Good enough for me, good enough for the rest of you.
  9. I'm pleased with the extension. Bombers can't afford to lose Willy with no proven backup regardless of how many people claim Marve looked good in very limited reps last year. If it takes $400,000 after this year then so be it. If he continues to struggle this year and the following year behind an improved offensive line, then the team can always look at restructuring his contract or releasing him if another option presents itself.
  10. Since you left are you saying you can suck yourself? How do you know I left? Location: West Kelowna would be the tip off that you left the province.

  12. You would need 4 square blocks to build a stadium downtown - 'bout 900 - 1000 feet long by 700 feet wide. So you would have to raze another 3 blocks beside the convention centre in an attempt to fit the stadium. All to create a giant dead zone in downtown for 10 football games and 3 or 4 concerts. Silly idea.
  13. Apparently it's now 2 cups in 10 years...or so the reports say. Also, apparently MLSE are reported to not be one of the interested parties in purchasing the Argos. Group with Cynamon and Pinball are said to be interested and might be willing to invest $10 million into BMO as part of the $20 - $30 million needed for conversion into a football field. http://www.torontosun.com/2015/04/24/live-leiweke-updates-bmo-field-argos-talks On Friday — 10 days before the Argos need to decide whether they want to strike a deal with MLSE to play at BMO Field next year, outgoing MLSE president and CEO Tim Leiweke told the Exhibition Place board there is a “potential new ownership group” willing to foot half of the $20 million required to expand the field for the Canadian Football League. “I’m optimistic we will get this done, but we have 10 days or we’re going to miss that window,” Leiweke said. “I believe there is a potential new ownership group that is not only prepared to step up and put in that additional $10 million, but handle the operation of the team long-term once they would move into BMO Field.” Part of the potential deal involving the unnamed interested new owner would also involve a minimum of two Grey Cups to be hosted at BMO Field. Leiweke said design drawings have been completed to modify end zones for increased field size for the Argos in order to prepare for a last-minute deal and to get the plans in on time for Phase Two of renovations, slated for completion in May 2016. Shovels need to be in the ground for October to accommodate the CFL.
  14. Good news! Next year obviously won't be a problem with the Grey Cup in town. Should see significant contributions to the reserve fund. Following year might be challenging as the team will not receive $875, 000( my estimate) from the league for the Ottawa expansion team. Then again, if corporate sponsorships from the league continue to increase that may not be an issue. Also, the amount of money from the tv deal increases slightly each year if I'm not mistaken so that would close the gap. If we see a similar increase in the tv deal within 4 years, the annual debt payments should be easily paid off...assuming player salaries are kept under control. I wonder what the Bombers stand to make revenue-wise from the Women's World Cup? Just rent for the stadium? Does anyone know what gameday revenues entails? In the report the pie chart shows a portion for gameday revenues. It can't be concessions because there is a separate portion of the pie chart for that.
  15. Isn't it too hot in the summer? Average of plus 32 in June, July and August doesn't sound ideal. Think of hot July days in Manitoba...without the humidity...or the wind...or the mosquitos. It's really quite ideal. The really hot days in Winnipeg don't occur all that often. To put things in persective, we only average 9-10 days per year over 30. Mosquitoes have not been an issue the last few years, nor should we expect it to be this year given what little precipitation we had over the fall and winter. I don't mind the wind - it's better than still air. Not like we get gusts here on a day-by-day basis like St. John's
  16. Even when Hunter loses he still has to win. I could see him laying out Sting with the Pedigree then drape his arm over Sting for at least 5 - 10 seconds while the ref is knocked out before Sting eventually wins with the Scorpion deathdrop or scorpion deathlock. Would be the typical **** move I'd expect from Paul. He can say he put over Sting clean when in reality he will have lessened the impact of said win. This has happened far too often in wrestling over the past 15 - 20 years. Overbooked bs.
  17. Couldn't someone debate while having sex?
  18. I have heard this too from a friend who recently vacationed in Cuba.

  20. I would imagine a cut of the bar sales would do it. A place like Doubles isn't packing people in on a regular basis so anything that brings people in the door (even if they don't pay to get in) is a win for them. The price of a ticket compared to a few hours of drinking/eating is pretty small I would think. I guess. You have to pay for the wrestlers, their accomodations, their travel, renting ring equipment, paying someone to set everything up, security. I would think bringing in one "big name" to do a show would cost a thousand alone.Cost of one name:airfare hotel his pay for the night (anywhere from a few hundred to several thousand). When Kurt Angle left WWE, I was the first promotion that asked to book him. I was told $5000. i said done. The next day, the booking agent (TNA) emailed me to say sorry, it's now $10.000 and no video can be taken of the event (which is where promotions can make money, DVD sales). $5000 and DVD sales, I would have done but not $10 000 and no DVD. Ok. Thanks for that info. Forgot about the sponsorships. Was it some other promotion that had Luger, Steiner/s and a few others at U of M a few years ago?
  21. The renos to make BMO football ready aren't happening now. That's the third phase which is not set in stone at this point. It will cost $30 million to make BMO football-friendly (retractable seats and I'm assuming locker room facilities for the Argos). $10 million has been secured from the city, $10 million from the province, but their remains $10 million funding gap. MLSE will not fund that so it will probably come from CFL teams (that's my guess).

  23. Cool. I'm excited yet a little bit hesitant. The first 5, maybe 6 seasons were great television. This is before the mythology of the show started to collapse on itself as you stated. After that, it became somewhat nonsensical and inconsistent. With the exception of a few episodes, the final 2 seasons were at best mediocre. The show never would have lasted past season 2, if the quality of writing and choice of actors from those final 2 seasons were present from the beginning. Little spoiler alert for those of you who never watched the original series and are planning to on Netflix or somewhere else... -Carter (the creator) broke so many promises as the series progressed - 1) killed the cigarette smoking-man..twice when he originally stated "you can't kill the devil." 2) Scully and Mulder will never have an intimate relationship - they did, and it was not a one-off. The relationship appeared to be rekindled in the second movie. By the way, the second movie was incredibly boring. -moving the series from Vancouver to California - this was precipitated by Duchovny's desires to be closer to his wife, Tea Leoni. I still remember back in the late-90s people took to calling her Yoko because of this. Also, remember watching a now somewhat infamous interview with Duchovny prior to the move to Cali stating that in Vancouver it rains like the tropics without the tropics. Regardless of the motivations of the move, X-files lost many potential spooky settings for the remaining 4 seasons when they left for Cali. It was the beginning of the end. Show was losing it's edge and i believe it was lead to the elimination of some recurring actors in the show which leads me to... -killing the shadowy syndicate. Another nail in the coffin for the show. I still believe they killed some of these characters because the actors who played them resided in Vancouver and due to certain restrictions (acting in other tv shows or movies), Carter and company found it expedient to eliminate these characters in one fell swoop rather than deal with their travel and time restrictions. After their elimination and the reformation of a new syndicate under a now somewhat neutered cigarette-smoking man, the stakes just didn't feel as high. -additions of Gish and Patrick. No chemistry whatsoever. -the big payoff for Mulder's decades long quest to find his sister (with several false discoveries along the was - clones) leads to the discovery that she was "taken into the light" -heaven I presume. This occurred only a few short months or years after her original abduction so she had been dead for decades. As a fan, although becoming a little more reluctant a fan of the show at this point, I felt ripped off. No reconciliation between Mulder and his sister which served as the genesis for Mulder's passion. -Show became increasingly convoluted in the latter seasons. Introduction of the supersoldiers in the final seasons was entirely unneccessary plot device. The black oil that had mutated into an alien-birthing device in the movie failed to appear after season 6. The writers chose to ignore it altogether. -cigarette-smoking man telling Mulder he kept him alive all this time to watch him fail. Uh huh, that sounds like a reasonable explanation and consistent with his character's actions in the 9 seasons preceding this final episode. Incidentally, CSM was incinerated shortly after saying this. Looks like the devil can be killed twice. -2012 - the date the alien invasion and colonisation of earth is set as predicted by the Mayans or so sayeth the CSM. If this is true, than this upcoming 6 part series would have to take place before 2012..or maybe the writers will just pretend that never happened too..or write some poorly reasoned explanation for the audience with one or two lines of dialogue..like they glossed over the authorities no longer coming after Mulder in the second movie. Enough ranting from me lol. We'll see how this turns out. I'm skeptical but hopeful it will be better than the final seasons of the original series.
  24. I'm not complaining about a few cm of snowfall in march. Par for the course. We are coming off a pretty mild winter. February was the only month below average temperature. Our snowfall was 1/2 - 2/3s of what it normally is...which isn't much compared to other parts of Canada. WHy was this thread directed at KBF? Anyways, Kelowna has some advantages - mild winters, longer spring and fall, surrounded by beautiful mountains. Then again, it's a ridiculously expensive place to live and the average wage does not compensate for the higher living costs; higher unemployment, lower average wages and a very slow-growing population. Plus a hear many in the BC interior are not the most progressive-minded. Most important, no CFL and NHL team.
  25. Do these local wrestling shows actually make the promoters money? I've been under the impression most of these shows lose money when you factor in all the comps for what is usually a small crowd at these events. And I would imagine the gate is the most important revenue source by far. What other revenue sources are there that compare to that?
