You're right.  There is no difference between judging people on their character, personality, judgement and poor management/writing and judging people based solely on elements of their humanity that they don't control like gender, race and sexuality. 

Not sure where you read anything about "HUGELY" ignorant.... I think my post was clear that IMO (only an opinion, for the record) there aren't definable degrees of ignorance here.
 
Look at the CFL's comment on this: announce that both players have been fined. They didn't say one was worse, or that the penalty for one was more severe... because really that doesn't matter.

Nope.  You have it backwards.  Nothing should be assumed, and there are good and bad people of all kinds.  The problem with what Turner said is that he is making the assumption that a gay teammate is going to be hankering for a peek at his junk, and implies that is a good reason to not have a gay teammate at all.  It's just following on stereotypes.  Imagine if a white player or coach commented that the city will be sold out of fried chicken or something like that when a black player is signed.  It's ignorant even if it is said in jest.

A gay guy would totally throw off the locker room dynamic. Now when we get all soapy and wrestle it could be taken the wrong way.

Such criticism of management should not be tolerated.  Mr. Price should also be traded to Winnipeg immediately.

Jovon Johnson's days are over with the Bombers but he was a soldier with us. I just want to say thank you & wish him well. 

Jovon was a very good player for us and I respect his contributions. The past two years he has not performed well and I support not bringing him back.

Jovon might be right that he's got lots of football left... but what the last 2 years has proven is that that football should be at dimeback or safety.  The guy can still play, but he's not a cover corner anymore.

Exactly. The probability that there are multiple gay people in the Alouettes organization, from players, to coaches, to administration, is pretty likely, and Bruce's comments have just ostracized them. To not release him suggests that the organization supports this type of discrimination. It's not a matter of freedom of speech, it's human rights. I'd have to imagine that if he had used a racial slur there wouldn't even be any hesitation to dump him, and I see this as no different.

Stupid is as stupid does. I've been around long enough to remember when blacks were excluded from playing certain positions on football teams and were not even considered for coaching or management because they were "not smart enough". The same bigots who feel that God has franchised them to discriminate against one group or another are the same ones who would have been stoning infidels in the streets not that long ago.

Arland checkered past really should prevent him from talking about anyone else's life choices.

It was hugely ignorant (which is basically a nice way of saying that we hope that Turner doesn't actually believe what he said) and ignorance like that is what creates an environment where certain people are excluded for reasons unrelated to being a good professional football player.  It's the exact kind of crap that was said about different races joining the locker room.

What Bruce said is right out of the bigotry handbook...although he managed to slip ****, ass and coochie in the sentence prior.
 
I'd rather have 10 gay football players on my team who are good players and teammates than 1 Arland Bruce.

He must think that he is so devastatingly attractive sexually that he couldn't be resisted. Life must be difficult with all those guys and gals hitting on him.
