Valderan_CA got a reaction from Logan007 in Justin Goltz
We see it all the time when our DLine is working well... normally excellent QB's seem to suddenly be unable to hit the wide side of a barn, even on the occasions that they actually have time to throw the ball.

Neither Goltz, nor Hall were expecting to have time to go to their second read, or even finish their first read on any given play.

So even when they did get time, they didn't feel like they could settle themselves and go through their reads, especially the reads opposite of their blind side since they can't see the DL coming in when they do that.

Late reads to the right side of the line are dangerous because fumbles happen when you try to throw late with the blind side DE charging in (and I imagine those hits hurt ALOT)... with our line EVERY SINGLE READ on EVERY SINGLE PLAY felt like it might be a late read because the QB's had no confidence that our OL was going to stop anyone for even a reasonable amount of time.

Rich any possibility that the posts in chat for game day could be moved to a game day thread after the game/>?

I think if there's one obvious tidbit to take away from the game re: the OL, it's that Swiston needs to play tackle.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have released import receiver Isaac Anderson and non-import kicker Justin Palardy.

First half of last game Hall was basically 12/12 (his passes on the Matthews Drop and Poblah Drop were both VERY catchable)

Only 3 drives ended up as punts:
-One where Simpson rushed for 0 yards and on second down Hall was forced to scramble - I don't know if anyone got open before Hall could have found them.
-When Matthews dropped a catchable pass for a 1st down
    - a drive where we couldn't get 2 yards running on second down.

    ---

I'm pretty sure the SAM blitz where he got flattened and lost the ball should have been slowed by our RB although I guess if he had stepped into the pocket he might have dodged it - After that point he just wasn't playing quite the same.

all in all the first half I thought Hall looked pretty damn good... just some miscues from OTHER PEOPLE on offense stopped us from scoring any points.

Wow SSK looks good coming out of the gate this year - Whatever Cortez is doing with their run formations is absolutely beautiful (I think Sheets is good, I think their X's and O's are better)

Heh... betting against Edm run defense still keeping me strikeless

The defense gave up 29 points, actually ... not 38. And on top of that, let's see just how Montreal scored those points.

7 points off a drive that started in field goal range after a Buck Pierce INT on the first offensive possession ... so the defense gets NO break after a tough stop to start the game.
3 points off another Buck Pierce INT that gave Montreal the ball starting in FG range
3 points on the NEXT drive (again no break) after a Chad Simpson fumble AGAIN giving Montreal a chance to start with the ball in field goal range.

There's your first half. 13 points off turnovers and realistically, the lowest they were going to give up was 9 considering Montreal started in field goal range on every one of those drives and had only two plays off in between possessions on two of those.

    3 points off a 12 play, 85 yard drive.
7 points off ANOTHER drive starting in field goal range after Burke's awful decision to punt in the end zone.
    3 points off a 10 play, 49 yard drive.
    3 points off a 6 play, 38 yard drive.

So basically, what it boils down to is that they held Montreal to field goals every single time they had a whole field behind them and even when the offense / coaching staff set them up for failure, they still held all but twice.

So yes, I'd absolutely say it was a dominating performance that was robbed by the offense. 29 points allowed, 13 of which were off turnovers that gave Montreal the ball in FG territory and you can even tack on the other 7 that resulted in them starting in FG range because of a bad coaching call. That leaves 9 points that Montreal actually busted their ass to earn.

Wouldn't matter if they could... they can't afford to hire any more reporters and can't get rid of the ones with seniority.

Who has done a good job of finding an adequate QB in this league recently?

Wally is the only one who comes to mind (Lulay) (You could argue Hufnagel if Tate turns out well and stops hurting himself) - Class of the league GM's

Popp has been lucky in Calvillo continuing to play at a high level past 40... if Calvillo gets hurts they have literally no CFL experience whatsoever behind him (in a worse position than we are)

SSK - I believe Roy Shivers or Eric Tillman brought Darian Durant in (6-7 years ago) (Both of whom are no longer working in the CFL)

    As far as trading goes

Burris was only available to a team with a solid reliable QB willing to be a backup in CGY - So basically only available to Hamilton (you could maybe argue that Calgary would have taken Kerry Joseph, but only if someone like Glenn wasn't available) - Smart move by Hufnagel to get Glenn when he dumped Burris.

Edmonton - Same spot as us or worse (Tillman ****** them - Hervey got Reilly, time will tell...)

So where are we then... maybe 1 or 2 GM's still in the league have proven themselves better at finding QB's than Mack.
Other than Tillman having a brain fart (nobody could have guessed that Ray would get traded for Jyles when Mack traded Jyles away... most people thought Mack made a great move with that trade) no trades were available during Mack's tenure where WPG had the parts to be able to trade for a proven QB.
