  1. To this day no running back has dominated like he did in 75. Unstoppable and unforgettable. Very sad to hear of his passing.
  2. Apparently you can poach guys by offering more money and changing their title. I say axe the US scouting dept and offer Murphy more money and a fancier title. That way Walters can stay too.
  3. IMO, we should not be thinking about bringing Cortez here. We need a creative younger mind, not a grumpy over the hill old man. And yet Doug Berry's name continues to surface. I agree but O'Shea's history has been to go with the established guy so it would not shock me.
  4. You can complain if you want but O'Shea is the head coach. I'm with the group that feels a good OC is all we need to be in the mix. Remains to be seen if O'Shea keeps special teams, if not we need someone good there too. A lot of shake ups in the west, we could finish anywhere at this point. So many unknowns.
  5. Personally I don't think Andrew Harris "finishing off his career" at home is worth top dollar. Wally has fired two head coaches now and if I was an assistant I wouldn't feel too safe there. It's never gonna be Wally's fault after all.
  6. My take is that he was Burris-like in his CFL tour trying to wring an extra dollar out of the place he wanted to go from the start. And people say home cooking doesn't matter... Sign more Bisons dammit!
  7. Calgary could have cared less though. One assumes Edmonton would care a lot more and go even beyond the CFL to uphold the contract if it came down to that. Not true. Hufnagel was pretty pissed they went behind his back and he had to find someone with no forewarning. In addition Argos beat the Stamps that year in the cup with Jones defensive schemes against Cornish a huge part of it. He was familiar with Calgary's offense having practiced against it for four years. You could say it cost Calgary a Grey Cup if you wanted to spin it that way. And Calgary did go to the league. $5000 was the best they could get. The league has no teeth and I think that is widely known.
  8. Well this already happened to Jones once. When he was DC in Calgary he made a lateral move to the Argos with a year left on his contract. The league fined the Argos a grand total of $5,000 for tampering. If these are the penalties why would Sask give a rat's hind quarters? Give him a raise and pay the fine.
  9. Why would Ottawa come out late after the half? Same reason, petty mind games. That said I agree about the chain saw. Kids emulate stuff and I'll never forget the story told me by a nurse of the guy whose saw wouldn't start until he held it in such a way that it bounced right into his face when it finally did. Plus how many commercials have we seen that start "hi, I'm ____ and I lost my leg in a lawn mower accident"? Mixed message.
  10. 2012 Ticats turfed HC Cortez after just one year (6 wins) and demoted O’Billovich from GM to consultant so they could hire Austin when he became available. I don't think they regret it.
  11. I say Hank plays well. Imagine how bad he would want to face Calgary in the Cup.
  12. Clearly he was better than given credit for. Huff did snap him up immediately.
  13. Don't forget the new stadium. That's a draw. If Sask wants to get into a bidding war with Edmonton we could see the price go through the roof, both well heeled teams.
  14. I loved that sports show too but that was before TSN and other sports networks were in every home. Now you can get sports highlights almost 24/7. It was pioneering stuff at the time and a lot of the anchors later ended up on national stations too. Am I the only guy Pascucci was friendly to? Congrats.
  15. haha, he did flat out say that he wasn't taking the job though. He looked uncomfortable saying it though. He sure did. Even he didn't believe himself. Until the Guelph job is filled it's always a possibility despite what he denies today. That's sports.
  16. Why does that matter? If it works... He takes some of the main concepts he learned from Milo... throws in his own wrinkles... and you have a successful offense... I guess it matters too if he is skilled enough to make the in game adjustments. That I don't know. I'm probably gonna be happy with whoever they hire provided they have CFL experience and understand they need to keep Willy upright not just through blocking schemes but smart play calling.
  17. I don't get it. Consensus was that we could be in the playoffs if things went right. Things did not go right, it's football. I was born a Bomber fan and I'll die one.
  18. 18 - 0 Because only Superman could have survived that long. Didn't every guy who played QB end up hurt? Nichols didn't miss a game but he is pretty banged up. To answer the question, we would be in the playoffs, 3rd in the West and losing in Calgary next week.
  19. Don Matthews on his taping (stealing) other teams offensive signals: "If you're not breaking a rule, you do whatever you can to make your team better. I don't see anything wrong with advance scouting ... let's call it advance scouting. If you don't take every opportunity you can, you're cheating your team... Personally, I think fans like winners, but the media and other coaches have a problem with winners." Did they take away any of his Cups? nope. Did anyone cheat harder than Matthews? Not that I'm aware of. I don't wanna be the only honest team or a lovable loser. Sask can have that title.
  20. Hall's D has been good enough to keep us in every game down the stretch. With any kind of consistent offense we win most of those. Let's not forget he started the season with a smallish group still unlearning the Etch-a-sketch method. Maybe it's b/c I can remember Reinebold's "high risk, high reward" defense which turned out to be high risk, low reward I take "aggressive" with a grain of salt. Just run a D that works and we have been lately. Also I thought O'Shea was considered aggressive himself as ST coordinator but he seems to not want that in his staff.
  21. Perhaps b/c of the weight they carry now? Just as two examples that I know of, Kelly Butler and Obby Khan look like different people they are so slimmed down.
  22. Let's see, partial PCL tear in his right knee and a tibial plateau fracture. For those who don't know that means it's the top of his shin bone where it meets the femur (thigh bone) in the knee. That's why he can't put weight on it without limping. Maybe they said 6 - 8 weeks to give the fans hope? I don't expect him back this year but he should heal 100% for next.
  23. Huff is a good coach but he is part of a good organization top to bottom. How does he get singled out for a million? Cheaper to pay Murphy to be GM, he's the guy who finds more Yankee talent than anyone in the league. This is supposing we have an opening at GM of course.
  24. I'm a believer that you have to learn how to win. Making the playoffs with a team that is not quite ready helps you next year. Penn State sports psychologist David Yukelson: "Learning is what competition is about," said Yukelson, a past president and fellow in the Association of Applied Sports Psychology. "Fans are about wins and losses, and I get it. But really being in that situation gives you the experience of knowing what you need to do the next time. The speed of the game, how to play against an opponent, the weather, how to handle pressure. By being in that experience you can use what you learned -- if you're motivated the right way."
