  1. They way they were examining Darvin Adams I though shoulder separation immediately too. Good news is that Denmark has been extremely durable in his time here.
  2. Anyone one know when Kris Adams will be ready? He looks pretty athletic in the limited amount I've seen him. 6'3" too.
  3. I would add that Nichols needs help from the receivers. They need to catch everything close.
  4. QB sacks are up, QB injuries are up. You can blame the NI o-line, you can try having a tight end and blocking backs but the proven way to counter act that is to get the ball away quicker than they can get to you. Lapo has brought that kind of offense here but Willy has been ineffective with it. Either he needs to change his game or he's going to end up finishing his career as a backup somewhere. The days of waiting for a receiver to open and taking a hit to make the play on a routine basis are over in the CFL.
  5. A team might if their own starter is done for the year as that salary won't count toward the cap. A trade, if it happens, will be after Labour Day when most of the 411 is already paid out by us. It would take the perfect storm though, a contending team needing a starter and willing to give enough futures to make it worth our while.
  6. Ron Lancaster (same era, longer career) still holds the interception record. His career numbers are 333 TD and a whopping 396 Int. Different times.
  7. If we don't start winning and soon, then Willy becomes potential trade bait for any contender who loses their starter. His salary is already in the budget, crazy to get rid of him for nothing and that won't happen. I think though that sitting will help Willy and he gets another chance here. If he doesn't take full advantage of it then it is indeed over.
  8. Nichols is better suited to run the offense we have. He gets the ball out much faster than Willy. He's gonna need help from the receivers though. A LOT of drops on perfect passes today at practice. Darvin, I'm looking at you. The other Adams, Kris looked good. I'd rather see him.
  9. Firing the coach was a popular idea when Burke got promoted... until people saw the results. O'Shea is never going to live up to the hype, he's not the next great HC. A nice guy and decent human being? Sure. But Doug Berry ran better quality practices from his golf cart than this guy and I hated Doug Berry.
  10. We would be competitive with anybody if we could score some points. I think the offense was not built to Willy's strengths, it was built to mask the weak/young offensive line. It needs a qb that gets the ball out fast, Glenn style. Willy has had 7 games (counting exhibition) and it is clear he is never going to be able to succeed in it. Nichols has the smarts and the quicker release but lacks in accuracy. If we had an offense built for Willy he would be injured before Labor Day with this O-line. We saw it last year and the one before. So I say we don't need a rebuild as much as we need either a qb with a quick release or a new offensive line, which will not happen.
  11. I don't recall the Stamps bench being this excitable under Huffer though.
  12. I don't think it's a rebuild. I thought Nichols showed us the way to run this offense, quick decisions, passes and throw it away to live another day when you need to. He is not that accurate with his passing though. If we could combine Willy and Nichols...
  13. I wouldn't expect a sentence but if they have a play called for a certain defense and don't get it couldn't the coach just say "cover zero" or what ever it is that they do get? Players call out words during plays all the time.
  14. I don't understand this myself. Players communicate with each other on the field but a coach doesn't think he should? At least they should have a few key phrases the coach can say, he knows the play call and can see the defense.
  15. Fullbacks led the league in rushing more than once back then. George Reed and Bill Symons come to mind, I'm sure there's more. I remember BC's Lou Harris (FB) and Monroe Eley (RB) both getting over 1000 in the same year.
  16. There was a clock on the challenges when it first came into being but it went over so many times it's no longer there. What's the use of it? They fine guys in the booth? No way to enforce it. Agree to get rid of all challenges. Roll with the calls, some you'll get and some you won't but at least we have a watchable game back.
  17. If they are going to do it they better do it soon. He's only ever played for one team and I would expect the adjustment to a new one would take a few weeks. Season would be over if we don't get a couple wins soon. Long shot but if Harris takes over from Burris this year, would he want a trade? He wants to play in front of family but if he's not playing... I know he's old and a stop gap measure but he'd adjust quickly and gives us the chance to win right now. Hypothetical at this point.
  18. That's what got him hired by Mack (admittedly no genius at hiring coaches). He asked around the CFL who were the best young minds coaching in the league and the name he heard most was Lapo. He's a respected guy by people who should know.
  19. No way. He never caved to fan pressure to get rid of a coach, why would he cave to hire one? Lapo was in demand by more than one team and there wasn't a lot else out there, that explains the hire to me.
  20. Part of being a head coach is assembling a competent staff. This is his 3rd kick at the can. If he is fired mid-season Richie Hall should be the interim guy as he is loved by the players and they might step up for him on a short term basis. But I do mean INTERIM, the next head guy is not currently here.
  21. Agreed. Calgary has arguably more talent but the gap is not wide enough to explain what we saw in that game... and the one before and I assume the next one too.
  22. Rarely have I heard Bob Irving sound so hopeless than on last night's post game. I would put money on him thinking O'Shea is captaining a sinking ship and does not know what to do about it. I expect more of the same.
  23. I'm no Riders fan but I'll be sorry to see old Taylor field go. Though in truth what I liked about it is already gone and has been for a long time. Modest fans, grassy knoll in the end zone that they sold tickets for, house across the street where they sat on the roof and watched, black and white broadcast at night because the lights weren't strong enough. I'm sure there's lots more folksy stories too.
  24. The o-line looking gassed I can chalk up to 2 games in 5 days. All the more reason to get the ball out quicker though. Willy taking hits in a meaningless game is unacceptable for any reason.
  25. Ed Ulmer was the regular punter for years here in the 60's. No field goals that I know of though.
