I agree. First impulse is to say JJ, but at least he did his job some of the time. Burke was an apathetic quasi-nice guy who lacked energy and commitment to his team...a Cancer doesn't have to actively subvert , it can be more subtle, like a coach who doesn't trust or lead his charges.

Stop with the East/West imbalance already. Way too much conversation revolving around an imaginary geographic line that separates two divisions. Unfortunately these groups are not equal in number and features one team which moves back and forth over the line with regularity. All that matters is our division...whichever one it is this year.

What a nightmare he was. Regardless of whether the Bombers signed Cauchy to attract Henoc or because he was the best they could find...another example of what a horribly run organization we were.

Why would they? How many current players/coaches/management knew or played for the man (Suber, Watson, Pierce)? I sure don't mean to belittle his memory, but I would think we, the fans, remember him more fondly than most current members of the organization...and that's a damn shame.

Hal Sigurdson was an exceptional football writer and Sports Editor at the Freep from the mid 70s until around 1990. His writing style was more homespun and folksy than Matheson's. I used to hate Jack Matheson for being hugely biased toward the home side and being overly critical during lean times. In hindsight, I think it was because he truly bled blue and gold...Caring too much about the Blue Bombers is something you sure can't say about too many Winnipeg broadcasters/journalists today.

Although, you might be surprised who could come out of the woodwork if you need him. In his final season with the Bombers, Joe Poplawski assumed the placekicking chores. You saw what happened when one of two goes down to injury. A disadvantage of having only one kicker is, who plays in his place if he is hurt.

Quick Whit is just horrible. He should apply the same nicker to himself...only use Dim or Nit on the front end of Wit.

Hustler does play the straight man to GL's train wreck broadcast style well. Sort of MacLean/Cherry without Don's nationalistic likability.

I know Lawless is a baffling commentator and master confabulator, but he's really dropping them today. This is the first time I've listened to the 1290 pre-game show this year, so prior to this I didn't have a handle on how truly nuts GL has become. Regarding him seeing Chris Walby getting ready for today's game, Lawless says: "There's something unsettling about watching the mammoth hanging out here"...Huh? Unsettling? Was he naked? When comparing the coaching styles of Osh and Chris Jones, GL goes on a tirade about how Jones considers the media to be "something he would scrape off the bottom of his shoe" he says Jones "is bad for the CFL". I guess Gary has never had the opportunity to interview Don Matthews. If he thinks Jones is rough, the Don would have made him weep. So now I can't change the station...just waiting for Gary's next beauty...Great stuff.

One testament to Irving's skill on the mic is how well he operates with the revolving door of colour men he works with each season. Listening to how he feeds some of these guys is a thing of beauty.

Andy Fantuz is questionable for this Saturday. Although this is a good thing from a BB standpoint, a bigger loss for the TiCats could be running back C.J. Gable. With Gable out, Chevon Walker would start, and although Walker is a decent back, "he's not as solid in pass protection and blitz pick up as Gable". Experience...and continuity. With a new safety in place, it would be very tough to unseat another incumbent. Another new guy means a heightened amount of unpredictability. Unless the new guy is overwhelmingly better, I say hang tough.
