Just don't give the game away.

There is not nearly enough talk about the Bombers D, especially against the fajtastic voyage (stealing it because it amuses me). I get people are stoked about the Montreal D and what they did to Toronto,  but man the Bombers have a storied history of making Cody Fajardo cry like a little *****.

If Zac's deep ball accuracy is our biggest concern on Sunday we will win easy. No one throws as good a deep ball as he does. We have just been spoiled the last couple years that he was otherworldly at it and this year he is merely the best in the league.

I just want to remind everyone that the last time we played them Zac had a disastrous first half tossing 3 INTs one of them a pick 6. We went on to win by a 30 point spread holding them to 17. In the game in Montreal, Zac played damn near perfect but just game managed us to a very score is deceiving 17-3 victory where we simply bully balled the clock away the entire 2nd half. In two games this year the Montreal offence has generated  2FG, and TD and that is with significant amounts of garbage time.

He is due. I think we see a big game from Brady and Zach with around 225 yards to 250 yards with a TD. Safe on offense, don't mess up on ST or D type of game.

re: the comparison of this year's Als to the 2011 Bombers.... I'd had that thought, as well, but the difference is the Bombers in 2011 backed into the playoffs after a great start to the year, and then shitting their pants in the back half. The Als actually got better as the season went on, and (at least defensively) are playing their best football when it matters. Their O still sucks, though, because The Fajtastic Voyage is among the worst "starting" QBs we've seen in many many years. If the Als had an actual starting QB (even someone like Trevor Harris) they would be a really good team and this game is immediately more of a toss-up.

this was a great read, Thanks @SpeedFlex27.... the old school days were wild... imagine Dru Brown realizes he's not going to unseat Zach as the starter so he just goes and becomes an all-star DB... though I guess TSN thinks he plays there...

I'm not going to go back pages to see if this subect was discussed just because you told KBF to do so. I know already & I'll answer KBF's question with a bit of background detail for him, you & everyone else,
Jim Van Pelt signed with the Bombers out of the University of Michigan. In 1958, he made the team as a rookie backup qb & played defensive back while Ploen was the starter. Midway during the 58 season, Ploen suffered an injury & Van Pelt took over. He played so well that Ploen couldn't get his starting qb job back. So he moved to the defensive backfield & played very well there. So well, that he had one interception in 1958 & another 10 the following season for 104 yards in 1959.  Ploen was named a CFL Western Conference All Star that season at DB even though he came back to play qb the rest of the way after Van Pelt's shoulder injury.
Van Pelt started the 1958 Grey Cup & Ploen subbed in for  some plays as well. So they both played the position in that championship game with Van Pelt getting the majority of the snaps. Van Pelt was also the Bomber placekicker. He kicked two field goals & 4 converts that game in a 35-28 win over the Ti Cats.
In 1959, Van Pelt again was the starter but suffered a hand injury during the exhibition season. He had to wear a cast on his non throwing hand. Still, he didn't miss a snap. In late September of 59, Van Pelt suffered a separated shoulder which ended his season & unfortunately his career with the Bombers. He never played for us again. During the off season, in late 1959, Van Pelt was drafted into the US Air Force for a 3 year hitch. After suffering his separated shoulder, Ploen had taken over from Van Pelt & he never looked back as he became the starting qb for the Bombers until he retired after the 1967 season. In between, winning 2 more Grey Cup championships at qb & also a finalist in 1965.
Van Pelt completed his Air Force duties in late fall of 1962. He was a special guest of the Bombers at the Grey Cup in Toronto as they wined & dined he & his wife in order to convince them he should come back, They tried to get Van Pelt to sign a new contract for the 63 season with the Bombers but he turned down the offer to become a chartered accountant in Chicago where he lived until he passed away last year.
Who knows why he turned down the Bomber offer as ther CFL was paying as good or better than the NFL at the time.  Van Pelt showed no interest to play in the upstart AFL which began in 1960. However, salaries were beginning to rise as the new league was competing with the NFL & CFL for players. The Canadian dollar was on par with the US dollar back in those days so there were no implications with the exchange rate for American players going back to the US in the off season. Perhaps Van Pelt felt that the team belonged to Ken Ploen now after being away 3 years. Maybe he felt that he had lost his edge. He certainly lost his desire to play as he was ready to move on to other things than football. Whatever the case, he never came back. He settled into private life in the Chicago area.
So KBF, Ploen never started 4 consecutive Grey Cups as a qb but he won 3 as a starter & played in 6 championships.

Ritchie Hall can be maddening at times with the bend but don't break stuff but my God when he's got the bodies to execute the man can get some great performances out of a defense. His ability to adapt in game is such a strength.

Winnipeg will be playing in their 28th Grey Cup including the 1935 'Pegs victory. Playoff keys to reaching the 2023 title game:
 The Blue Bombers come in riding a 5-game win streak. Longest winning run among their 4 straight appearances. (It is their longest win streak going into a Grey Cup game since 1993 at 7 in a row)
 In the W.Final: Winnipeg held BC to just 189 total yards - the fewest allowed by a West Div. winner since 2007 (SSK v BC)
 Did not allow BC to reach the Red Zone at any time and run any play closer than the WPG 35-yard line.
 Winnipeg forced 5 BC T/Os which led to 13 of their 24 points (54%) including a blocked punt TD
 The 9 Sacks recorded by the Bombers tied the CFL A/T Playoff record (Hamilton 1985, Winnipeg 1992).
     Sacked Adams Jr. on 8 of BC's 13 possessions (forcing a kick or T/O on all 8); 6 Two-&-Outs
 Generated 21 first downs on just 52 offensive plays - converted 63% of their 2nd Down Conversions (BC: 4-of-17 24%)
 Passes Stretch the Field: Of their 21 total attempts, 7 were at a depth of 15 yards or more downfield 0-9 Yd Depth: 10-of-13 77% 10-19 Yd Depth: 3-of-3 100% 20+ Yd Depth: 1-of-5 20%
 Brady Oliveira reached 100+ before half (14/101 yds, 7.2 avg). In the 2nd Half: 8 yards on 7 attempts (1.1 yd avg)
     They rushed for 121 yards (fewest since Sep 16th) - 1st Half: 16 for 105, 6.6 avg 1st Half: 11 for 16, 1.5 avg
 Their TD on a blocked punt was the first in a playoff game since 2008 (Edmonton, Justin Cooper)
 The Bombers intercepted Vernon Adams Jr. 3 times after making none against him regular season (in 62 pass attempts)
 Kenny Lawler accounted for more than half of Winnipeg's receiving with 83 yards on 6 catches (among 14 total)
 Were led by an Offensive Line with 47 combined career playoff games started (35 playoff, 12 GC)
 Survived 2 missed FGs in 5 attempts vs BC without a long return

I think it comes down to Zach not forcing crazy plays (i.e. turnovers)  and definitely no Prukop special package plays!
If we get any sort of running production from Brady then things will be good for us.  That lack of any production in the 2nd half from him was concerning.

Honestly bighill barely has the speed at the best of times, if he's at all slowed by an injury it's better for the team to sit him out.

Yup. I was bitter when he left and what he said when leaving. But the Bombers did the right thing and at the time I don’t think he fully understood that. We may have never seen what Brady O could do had he stayed. He ended up with one more ring in the end. Good on him.

BC was stacking the box and our passing game was jacked up with all the injuries and Woli playing out of position.  I dunno if Buck was play calling to feed Lawler or if Collaros was ignoring everyone else but our passing game just didn't look right.  Was watching Woli waggle and he wasn't hitting the line like a regular CFL slotback would.
Last regular season game when BC stacked the box we killed them with Brady in the flats .... wonder why that wasn't available last night. I kinda wonder if Brady got nicked up ... was weird to see Augustine getting carries in a game that wasn't decided yet ... totally not the Bombers style to sub out the top talent unless it's Prukop coming in....

Perhaps it's recency bias, the free clappers, or sitting in a different section (I was in accessible seating in the end zone), but that was the loudest atmosphere from start to finish that I can remember.
