It has become pretty obvious that O'Toole does not speak for the whole party which is still divided along Reform vs  PC. He appears to be seen by many in the party as a figurehead who is useful only so far as projecting a credible PM image which will get them into power. Once there, it will be open season. He has no authority to set policy and has backtracked a couple of times already after saying something and being chastised.

It is a divided party for sure.  PMs do/can  carry alot of weight and control the party ( Harper ) but I doubt if OToole can pull it off. Also if he loses he will probably be one and done. It's always been the biggest issue for PCs, controlling  that far right. But I still believe the only way they get elected is to appear more centralist and pull votes from the Libs. I really do think they lose a bunch of votes west of ONT. to the PPC.

This guy appeals to so many right wing nutters. Half the PC party were ready to make him their leader and he would probably still get as many votes if another leadership vote happened today.

I think he is going to steal alot of PC votes . Whether that translates into seats I don't know. If I'm OToole I go as close to center as I can. He has already lost the far right votes .He needs to chip away at Liberal votes. It's definitely a interesting election.

  3. The polls seem close enough that everybody can claim they are trending well.  This election seems set up for someone to have an epic crash. Some PC candidate with flapping gums saying what he shouldn't ?  Trudeau  with yet another scandal ?   More trouble in the world that exposes the weakness of various wannabe Mps ?  Will the Liberals pull the " very scary " card again or the " a vote for the NDP is a vote for the PCs "  card again ? Can OToole  keep the more Looney candidates caged up ?

15 Miami-Dade Public School Staff Members Die Of COVID In Just 10 Days

A 30-year teaching veteran was one of 15 Miami-Dade County public school staff members who died of COVID-19 in just 10 days as Florida continues to reel amid the continuing, overwhelming toll of an unfettered pandemic.

“It’s a tremendous loss,” said a school official, referring to the death of longtime teacher Abe Coleman, 55, earlier this week.

“The number of lives that he impacted are countless. So many young men had the benefit of him intervening in their lives and pointing them in the right direction,” Marcus Bright, who works with a local education program 5000 Role Models of Excellence, told NBC-6 TV.

Coleman taught at Holmes Elementary School in Miami’s Liberty City area, which is a primarily Black neighborhood with 42% of the population living below the poverty line.

Local education officials haven’t released the identities of the other teachers or staff members.

“The loss of any of our employees is one that is always profoundly felt as every member of this organization is considered a part of Miami-Dade County Public Schools family,” the district said in a statement. “We extend our hearts and prayers to the loved ones of those whose lives have recently been lost.”

DeSantis 'triples down' on fight to protect virus, $5,000 fines for schools that require vaccination

For decades, Florida schools have required vaccinations. The Florida Department of Health currently lists vaccinations against at least seven different diseases that are required for both public schools, private schools, and even daycare facilities. Both students and teachers are required to be vaccinated against everything from polio and pertussis to chickenpox and hepatitis B.

But Gov. Ron DeSantis has informed these same schools—along with every government agency and private business in the state—that they will be fined $5,000 it they ask for proof of vaccination against COVID-19. As WJXT in Jacksonville explains, DeSantis says he doesn't want a "biomedical security state" in which people are forced to produce proof of vaccination. To underscore this desire, Florida's Republican-dominated legislature passed, and DeSantis signed, a bill saying that no business, school, or agency can "require patrons or customers to provide any documentation certifying COVID-19 vaccination."

The maximum fine that bill allows is $5,000. Letters sent this week have made it clear that DeSantis intends to begin fining people the maximum amount immediately. Meanwhile, as WFLA reports, two children died in Florida from COVID-19 on Thursday—including a newborn who was just two weeks old. The director of a pediatric intensive care unit confirmed that children "do get severe conditions and we are seeing more and more of them in the ICU."

This is becoming like some sci-fi movie.  I simply can't understand how a portion of the population, leaders and media continue to fight and balk at solutions to a pandemic that is killing so many. It's gone beyond bizarre.

The Conservatives have opened a five-point lead and leader Erin O'Toole has surpassed Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau in popularity among voters, giving the Conservatives clear momentum going into the holiday weekend, according to nightly tracking conducted by Nanos Research for CTV News and the Globe and Mail.

This is such a tough election to call.Theres a ton of what ifs , maybe and it depends. Which  demographics and voters will turn out and which won't because of Covid ? How angry are people at the election being held now ? Will the Conservatives lose votes to  the PPC due to the Anti crowd ? Will the Liberals lose votes to the NDP ? Do the Covid fighting  successes or failures of provincial governments turn people on or off certain Federal parties ? Are the early trends going to continue ?  I'd be surprised if it's not a minority for someone again.  It's interesting if nothing else.

Gonna be real with you as Brian is a family acquaintance.  I don't think Coward is the word... I think being forced out because of covid would be more fair. Listen, BP definitely didn't always listen to the doctors advice and wanted to keep things going forward.. he ****** up.. he knows it.. we know it.. his party knows it.

It's no coincidence that he leaves and 2 women, let's be honest it's gonna be Stefanson winning the PC vote throw their names in. Politics 101... sacrifice the leader and throw him under the bus.

This is what's happened. Coward? Nah.. he's a down to earth guy really.. pressure? Damn rights. Due to his handling of covid and political. PCs want to win in 2023 or whenever our provincial election is... they wouldn't with pallister.  Likely will with Stefanson

Agreed and I would go even further. I would suggest the powers that be within the inner circle have had a talk with him. If he stays till the end the memory of him will be fresh in the voters mind. If he leaves now the new leader has a chance to put up some new wall paper and splash some paint around to freshen things up and they have a shot at getting elected. If he stays to the end,  that's  not going to happen. It's got nothing to do with cowardice.
