Looks like Donovan Kemp made the roster.
Not necessarily. Some people will be put on the IR.
-
Weird timing on this for sure.

Nobody has outplayed Aaron Kelly at the wideout position yet.
Some people are saying that is a failure on recruiting…what if it's success by Kelly?
The Bombers last successful days, Jamie Stoddard was a mainstay at 5th WR. A sticky hands guy without much flash that just caught whatever was thrown to him as a 5th receiver. Why not Kelly?
Queue the Stoddard love
You called?
You must be so conflicted. Haha.

I have a feeling Edmonton may be better than people think this year

17to85: I like how you bolded everything except for the part in brackets at the end of my sentence and chose to ignore it for argument sake. Wow

Kelly gets way too much flack here (beating a dead horse), being a guy that came in midway through the season last year and looked pretty decent (in bursts, of course). I say let the chips fall where they may. He will likely be the starting WR come the first game of the season. What I like about this management team is that they are constantly looking to get better, and that is for every position.

Man, I keep hearing how Aaron Woods is a keeper but I've never seen him do anything in a game to really distinguish himself. What am I missing?
Honestly I feel like Woods has been one missed block away from a couple of catchable balls getting to him. I still have high hopes for him.
-
Yeah which confuses me because all I ever hear is how good imp (international) RBs are a dime a dozen. Cotton is decent, but I fail to see any wow factor. I'd go as far as saying I think we will see a revolving door of RBs this season. IMO Garrett and Simpson showed more...talent wise. I would also like to clarify that I'm not in the camp who believes Messam is the messiah either. I would like to see what Aaron Woods could do at RB. I'm very disappointed that Smith never panned out, but not entirely surprise by the results. The running back situation concerns me.
Did you want Cotton to personally come to your house and punch you in the mouth so you could say "WOW!"?
Cause he pretty much did everything else perfect in two pre-season games.
11 carries for 97 yards long of 26.
Probably the best RB screen pass we've executed in years against Calgary.
What did you want to see?
The ol' 60 yards untouched into the endzone play.
-
Cotton is injured and was to see the Dr. yesterday
Insert some random comment about small players not being able to take hits and needing Messam since he's big and fat etc....
Insert picture of that fat QB that made the NFL.
-
Fast, strong, has great moves, and can catch out of the backfield. I think he'll be a good one.
-
If Maher doesn't get picked up somewhere else we should at least keep him around on the taxi squad.
Agreed. The guy was about as good of a kicker that we've had here in a while. Lirim Hajikoolaid has shown to be pretty damn good and is a National to boot.
-
Probably a lot of truth to that. Lirim Hooftothetwo has a pretty good and accurate leg, and did not look to be much behind Maher.
-
I would love to see messam in blue and gold
Absolutely. If he has any kind of game left and can play ST he'd be an upgrade over Volny.
-
Yeah it's a little weird to think that Kenny Tate was supposed to be that ultimate "Gary Etcheverry" type player, but ended up being cut pretty early.
-
IMO none of these cuts are really surprises. What did Kenny Tate do at all? He was given so many chances to make an impact. Errol Brooks just doesn't have enough size or skill and I feel like we may DI Paris Cotton (looks like he's a good returner and RB).
My question is how they feel about Urutia, being that he has been given the same amount of chances as Kenny Tate to make an impact, and hasn't either.
-
We only have 6 national OL on the roster. That is scary.
For 3-4 positions...not too bad. Considering Goosen and Morley were doing good jobs snapping the ball, it was pretty easy to conclude Chris Kowalczuk was going to be cut.
-
How can you say anything about where this team ranks compared to years past without one meaningful game being played? I get your concerns but come on.

Watched the BC @ Edmonton pre-season game last night.
You can tell why Wally Buono needed to go out and get Kevin Glenn. He had no depth behind (a somewhat injured) Lulay in Beck and Partridge. Beck looked pretty bad if you ask me. He throws a weird short armed ball. Partridge looks a bit more promising, but these guys are both new and would be eaten alive in a regular season game.
Edmonton is lucky to have Nichols back. If there is one non Bomber QB that I'm rooting for it would be him. Having to go through ACL injuries twice myself, I can relate as to how physically and mentally debilitating it can be. If he can stay healthy he will be seeing the field quite a bit this year. But yeah, they are extremely lucky to have him back because between Pat White and Jacory Harris, they looked just about as bad as you could in a pre-season game.
White looked absolutely terrible yet Jones kept playing him& playing him. You'd think he'd want to get the rust off Nicholls in the pre season. Or maybe he just thinks Reilly is his guy & doesn't want a qb controversy. Either way, I thought the decision to keep White in was really questionable. Benevides gave Glenn the first quarter which too was a bit surprising. He needs to get his timing down throwing the ball & getting familiar with the new playbook. Not a very good game to watch. That little scatback for BC is going to steal Stephan Logan's job, you watch.
Yeah I think they went with Pat White because Jacory Harris was even worse, to the point where he wouldn't even be getting the rest of the players in the offense meaningful reps.
Can't believe I forgot Crompton. What a pile of crap outing he had. Clearly he has some skill over the other Edmonton QBs, but man, he was terrible. I've seen him play much better than that.

Brett Carter playing 2 positions.
He's making even Bryant Turner jealous...
I'm pretty sure one of them is "Future Brett Carter" 28 year old phenom that's travelled back in time to save our NI depth.

As long as we put our 6th man in his guard spot and Knapp remembers to declare himself as an eligible receiver, absolutely.
This would actually be pretty awesome if he has good hands.

Oh well at least it looks like this regime isn't going to be sitting around waiting for these "duds" to realize their "potential".
I know it's an oversimplification but: May the best players play.
Roster Cut Discussion

You have to remember that just because someone did not make the team as a starter for week 1 doesn't mean that they can't be a starter down the line. It is kind of nice to think that at the very least we have guys that are capable starters for week 1 and we will have guys on the practice roster pushing them. I don't think that's a fail in scouting at all. That's how most teams work.
