I think this team is in such a huge mess that they need to spend money whether they have it or not in order to get this franchise back on track. Unless, for whatever reason, they want to role the dice again on another season in order to save money. But will they save money if people don't buy tickets? I'm not saying Walters is not going to be the next big GM, but is the organization willing to chance this? People are already screaming for blood if you listen to the post game shows and read the forums. People are tired of seeing this team lose. Do we really want to chance another new GM? Are we really willing to go through another season just to "try him out"? His tryout is now, and if he fails, put him back to his old position and get someone who can turn this team around. Unfortunatley I don't like viewing the remainder of this season as a tryout for Walters because there's really not a hell of a lot he can prove in that limited time. Most of a GMs work is done in the offseasons so if we're giving Walters a tryout you basically need to use next year as well. I would be completely fine keeping him around as AGM and letting him get some more experience before giving him the role but I have no tolerance for another cheap cost saving experiment from the Bombers. Identify who the absolute best candidate out there is and do what it takes to hire them.

Also could be called polishing a turd.
-
That is incorrect. Mack made moves, he just preferred to bring in rookies than cast offs. The number of moves isn't going to be any different, just the source of players that's changing.

Toronto without Ray is not nearly as dangerous a team.
-
that and the argos without Ricky Ray aren't all that terrifying of a team.
-
why don't we tell our current dbs that this is the goal? That way when they fail they will actually be in tight coverage.
-
Rottier was with Hamilton originally right? It would all make sense..... just saying.
-
would be something I'd look into anyway. If our RT is going to suck let's get an american inside and see if he can't be a bit of spark.

It's the Calgary sports media in a nut shell. Everything Calgary is great everything else is laughable. It spills over to the fans and as a result Southern Alberta fans are insufferable.

Hey now, Creehan was a real good linebacker coach, there's no issues with him getting the DC job in Hamilton because as a positional coach he was successful so he took the next step. He failed at that next step but that doesn't mean hiring him for it was completely ridiculous.

Contrary to popular belief Mack isn't the ***** who struggles to tie his shoes that everyone seems to be painting him as since he's been fired. Makes a hell of a scapegoat though.
-
and he's gone in there against 3 of the toughest teams in the league as well. No cream puffs for him to play against. Just blows the mind that he's had the most productive performances of the qbs against the toughest test yet Burke still won't let him ride it out for a few games.

You make it sound like he was always away scouting which isn't true. He was at every practice according to Penton. And most teams have others who look after those things as well so I don't know what your point is. you haven't noticed what the point is with every post? Everything he posts is trolltastic.
-
which is what leads believability to the fact that he was looking to go home all along and was simply using the Bombers to get as much money from the Riders as possible.
-
Penton made a good point, you can control offering more $ and not saying we're going to switch your position. However if position was such a big deal Labatte should have brought that up in negotiations as well, he never did that. we can't know that. Yeah we can, it was directly from him in an article on it shortly after it happened.

Good question. I do think that preferences for leaving to go elsewhere is always overidden by the amount of $$ being paid. People go a long way to work from home to make more money. I think if Mack had offered more then maybe Labatte would have stayed. Labatte's girlfriend could have moved to Winnipeg. Show Me The Money. I think it came down to that but it's me speculating. ok so what if the Bombers offer more, but the Riders also offer more too? Where do you draw the line for money?
-
No need to take chances when you're only down by 6...hope he's learned something... well you can understand why he would feel he needed to take chances though, at that point everyone knew that the defense had no hope of stopping the riders. punt and it's a long time killing drive for more rider points. This team is just so ****** mentally. They can't deal with any sort of adversity.

If one of the bombers qbs tossed 4 ints we'd have them hanging in the town square! It's the double standard with regards to qbs across the league from Bomber fans that always kills me.
-
I think you're just reading way too much into it. Was pretty much just frustration at having lost a guy like that.
-
Doug Brown on the post game on CJOB seemed to have a pretty good analysis of what went on with Goltz, basically talking about how he doesn't know what he can and can't get away with in those situations yet.
-
yup I listened to it
-
why don't you two just get a room already? Really seems like kind of a petty and useless argument.
-
ahh you're over blowing what they were saying.

The problem is that we have it from Labattes own mouth that he didn't tell the Bombers that he didn't want to play centre. Yeah they could have offered him a ton more money... but the riders likely would have offered more as well and then there's still the home factor as well as Labatte not stating his wishes to the Bombers regarding position. Look I know you love to jump all over what the past management did, but Labatte seemed very keen to go to Saskatchewan and it's hard to fight that.
