Rumour: Jets/Isles to Deal on Draft Day?
17to85 replied to The Unknown Poster's topic in Winnipeg Jets Discussion
Yes and no. They take criticism but all they is talk rumours all day everyday. How many rumours or talked about deals actually happen. Some of their writers are good. Either way it makes for some good talking points. Aside from Tavares who do the islanders have that we would want that would also fit I to a Buff and/or Kane deal? That's exactly why they aren't worth listening to. If they hear that one GM calls another they put it up to generate page views. Until someone reputable like Bob Mckenzie brings up a rumour it's got no legs at all. -
Rogers is a giant in Canada, but they're small potatoes compared to their American counterparts.

Rumour: Jets/Isles to Deal on Draft Day?

Hockeybuzz is the least reliable source for rumours out there. Seriously they're a punchline everywhere. -
You see what happens when you start promoting the place on twitter? You get rider fans. Now we need to hire an exterminator. Are you happy with yourselves?

Another Loss Yet Same Old Questions

You over estimate his value around the league. The same reason you'd trade him are the same reasons other teams won't pay a premium for him. Is he a defenceman? Is he a forward? Is he going to show up in shape? He is inconsistent, he has a big contract... He's the kind of guy teams would take a chance on for the right price, but no one is going to pay big to get the guy. Honestly, I disagree. I've had this debate before. In Winnipeg we are always of two minds: we can trade bottom six guys for top six guys or no one wants our players. All things being equal Buff is a superstar player. He's really settled in as a very good forward, top six for sure with a propensity for taking over games at will. But I dont believe his style/age/fitness fit in with *this* team. He's a "missing piece" type of player. He's the guy a top team gets to put them over the top. We're not there yet, so his talent is wasted here. I believe he's easily nets a top six winger, pick and prospect. We maybe throw in a higher pick and a less desirable prospect to make it all work but we're net positive on any trade at this point. Buff is a guy who CAN dominate, but not all the time. He is absolutely not a superstar. He can look like it at times but the inconsistency and questions about his work ethic and whether he's going to be in shape or not when training camp rolls around is what prevents other teams from paying the price you think you can get. GMs want consistency above all else. They don't want to have to guess what they're going to get out of a player. WIth a guy like this who has those consistency issues it's not something GMs will pay a premium for. They'll take a chance for a low price, but not for the big payment you expect. -

Why do people ***** about Kane not doing enough exactly? He's already shown himself to be a 30 goal scorer what more do you actually expect from the kid? Maybe it's not him that's a problem but peoples expectations of him.... As for Bogosian, same deal. People are still caught up in him being compared so closely to Drew Doughty in their draft years. Bogosian is what he is, which is a decent top 4 defenseman. Stop expecting him to turn into that top guy because at this point it's clear he won't get to that level. -

Won't happen because contrary to popular belief Craig Mctavish isn't a ***** either. He knows the value of those players because he coached a team for years that would have killed for players that talented. You know why he hasn't made a big trade? It's because he won't give up those players for pennies on the dollar. You might get an Eberle for Kane type deal but that's not getting someone for a song.

How long do you think it takes to clean up a mess of an organization? Don't ever forget how absolutely terrible Atlanta was at asset management. -
This is what it all comes down to. Trouba looks like an absolute steal of a draft pick but he's still a rookie, give him a few years to really find his place in the NHL, Schiefele is looking like a solid top 6 centre but again still a rookie give him some time. Those are the guys that the team will need to rely on so there's no harm in waiting them out. Hell Kane is still a young guy himself.

It was a piss poor market for trading players this deadline so I have a hard time being too judgemental for doing nothing.

The thing about HFboards is that it's full of *******.

Nah I think the problem in 2010 was simply that Jyles would play well enough to lose nothing more nothing less.

Bob Wylie to be new O-Line coach - Confirmed
17to85 replied to Mr. Perfect's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
The Bombers already have several people in their employ who are paid specifically to know how to identify the best prospects. If they can't make a good decision without the presence of a positional coach there then why are we paying those people in the first place? -
I guess you'll need to talk to Dr Sigmund as you're part of the fanbase like we all are. Id? Well I did say IN Winnipeg so I got my bases covered.

is playing in front of the bipolar fans in Winnipeg really a bonus? Seems to me that if they start out poorly the mob will turn on them pretty quick.

US big oil has enough investments in the oil sands they want the stuff to be produced. It really is because you can't show CO2 emissions, there's nothing to see, but you get some pictures of a clear cut forest or a big tailings pond and show that to people and they react because it's a shocking thing to see. The other thing they like to do is pretend that the tailings ponds are as bad as the ones at other kinds of mines. Cleaning up the tailings from a gold mine, very problematic, but tailings from the oil sands mining? They have a very high success rate at reclaiming that and restoring the land when they are done mining. Oil sands make a great target for people who want to point the finger at someone else but most of it is distorted facts and propaganda nothing more.
-
The thing that bugs me the most about the oil sands protestors is that they paint a picture like the entire area is strip mined. It's ridiculous. Most of the new development isn't even mines anymore, it's all in situ SAGD which is basically no different for land disturbance than conventional oil wells.

Hey go on and have your opinions, but this is a topic I am quite interested in and without any bragging I think I can say I am more educated in it than the general public so I'm going to point out when others opinions don't match what I know.

But it's still a lot of money and most of the options are simply not as reliable in many places anyway. Fossil fuels are so cheap and so efficient and so transportable. The only real alternative would be nuclear and that just has a different kind of pollution to deal with. It is a massive expenditure no matter how you want to look at it because the majority of the infrastructure is set up for fossil fuels, even switching from coal to natural gas is costly. Truthfully the best solution is probably to try and make every building as independent of the main grid as possible, but good luck getting everyone to pay the do that.
-
That's because you don't have to pay for it. How much do you suppose it costs to switch from fossil fuels as an energy source? How many nuclear plants will it take to replace the coal oil or gas burning ones? Hell even switching from coal to gas is pricey enough.

15 years of anecdotal evidence in one geographic location is weather not climate. Trust me on this one, climate is not something you can comment on without a lot of data on a global scale.

I want to talk about something that really grinds my gears
17to85 replied to Mike's topic in General Discussion
I stayed long enough to get banned for telling Colin why people left. Banned me then not long after that he made a post basically saying the same things I told him. Sad really that he was so touchy he couldn't take constructive criticism. -
You are talking about weather not climate. Climate is a long term pattern not what happens year to year. Calgary is especially problematic because of the chinooks, they make winters unpredictable as well.

Pass Interference Calls…Challenges Ahead?
17to85 replied to Mr Dee's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I believe the point that people were trying to make is that it's a slippery slope and how long before they have to add more challenges because the refs are missing so many calls?
