You mean guys like: Burke, PLAP, Kelly, Hawkins, Reed, Hall, Marshall, Cortez, Bellefeuille and Taffe? All guys who were unproven, said to have the right qualities and failed at least in their first season. Being said to have the right qualities and actually having them are entirely different things you know.

Kavis Reed as Bombers new Defensive Coordinator?

And unless Tim Burke is a masterful liar when he says he doesn't know his status, why would MB know Burke was going to be fired before Burke knows. Well maybe Burke is just too dumb to see the writing on the wall and MB isn't? Burke is going to be fired I don't think there's any question of that it just comes down to a question of when. -
Question though, would those other backups have developed and looked good with the coaching this team had? That's why it's an unfair comparison. Goltz did have some good moments and is quite effective in certain packages. Given all the other issues on the team I think it's very unfair to the kid to write him off as useless. His CFL career is likely done just because that's how it goes for young qbs but that doesn't make it a fair comparison.

proven or not is less concerning to me than whether or not they can actually do the job. Every great coach was unproven at one point, just hire someone with the right qualities.

DeMarco who has been so impressive that Buck Pierce has passed him on the depth chart?
-
I think Ottawa would rather have access to the NIs quite personally. I think there are enough options at qb that depending on who is available if they don't take a qb off someones roster they will trust in the ability to get a FA qb. Hell I think if Austin really is on the outs with Burris that he's the guy Ottawa will be targetting simply because he's a big name they can easily market. i get that having the sort of access to NIs that the league is giving the Redblacks is a once in a lifetime opportunity... but the only thing in our league more important than NI depth is having a top QB. so as Mike says... if Ottawa's powers-that-be have identified one QB as "their guy", then they must obtain him at the expense of all else. and I just think there's enough options they'd be happy with that they will opt to have their pick of what NIs are available rather than going for a qb.

Based on how his season went do you forsee a lot of NFL interest in the guy?Yeah, I see more NFL interest in Muamba than Matthews, quite frankly. Matthews when he did play looked like he had gone to the Kamau Peterson school for dropping passes into your midriff during the off-season. Matthews confirmed he had NFL interest last season and intends on pursuing the NFL next year. There is zero percent chance the Bombers protect Matthews. yes but last year he was coming off rookie of the year and a generally pretty damned good season, this offseason he's coming off an injury plagued year and a season in which he under performed. Things change in football, I'm not sure the interest will still be as strong. Not like there's a shortage of receivers in the states for NFL teams to pick from. Maybe he goes maybe not but right now I think it's far from a sure thing like everyone assumed it was before.

And yet he recorded as many wins for this team as any other qb despite being abandoned by the coaches. There seems to be a whole lot of "Goltz sucks" being thrown around just because he was teh qb of record in some terrible games, but every qb was terrible here until late in the season for a couple of games. Now how much of that was the change in OC taking effect? Which happened to be at a time when Goltz was banished to the bench because Boluts apparently has incriminating pictures of the coaches. I don't doubt that Goltz will be gone, but he did get a raw deal here this season.
-
I think he's done and it's a shame because he really got dicked around by these guys. Burke went to bat for him bigtime in the offseason and then got absolutely thrown under the bus when he couldn't make chicken salad out of chicken ****. The new management will bring in new development prospects though so I don't expect him to be back.

Arash Madani: Miller Trying to Force Rick Worman On Walters

Well Stubler was teh DC there for most of Pinballs time right? He's one of the more experienced guys around so he definitely had someone to lean on there. I forget who else was on those coaching staffs but they were most likely quite experienced as well. If guys like Burke and Stubler and Marshall have taught us anything it should be that being a good coordinator and being a good head coach are entirely different beasts. -
and TIm Burke consistently puts a shitty product on the field. Nope. Tim Burke is part of a managment team that out a shitty product on the field. Its a moot point as Tim will be fired. But anyone who thinks keeping him would sound the death knell for attendance is kidding themselves. All you have to do is look at how the performance fell off the edge of the map with Burke as compared to Lapo to realize that yes Tim Burke shoulders the lions share of the blame for how uninspired the team looks. At least Lapos teams fought until the end, Burke has the guys ready to roll over at the first sign of adversity.
-
very debatable. never mind that this team still had Boltus as it's #2.

Joey Elliott still played better than Hall did. yeah that 52-0 loss to the Riders was a great example of that too... Give it up already... Elliott's gone. So why keep bringing him up? It's over. I've explained this before, until he's been adequately replaced it's worth bringing up.
-
that is assuming Ottawa wants to take an upcoming free agent in the dispersal draft
-
All this after he says he knew the team sucked from game 2.... maybe the guys who packed it in were just following his lead.

Buh bye Pat DelMonaco. Start packing your bags. The interim boss ain't impressed. well based on the complete bag of **** and lack of improvement by anyone on the offensive line in his time here good riddance. -
Would Dunigan be THAT bad as a GM though? The stamps did bring in some quality people while he was there, I think Dunigans biggest failing in Calgary was taking on too many roles (GM, HC, OC, probably qb coach as well) and having to deal with an owner who basically bought a team so his son could play qb.
-
Been saying it for a while, Burke is the worst head coach I have ever seen on this team and that includes such fools as Kelly, Daley and Reinbold.
-
And when you compare those numbers to Lapos you realize just how bad Burke really is cause they were dealing with a lot of the same things when it comes to the roster and GM who built that roster. This isn't about talent right now, it's about a coach that is truly inept.
-
Joey Elliott still played better than Hall did. yeah that 52-0 loss to the Riders was a great example of that too... Give it up already... Only when everyone else starts looking at things objectively. Was Halls 37-7 loss to Hamilton that much worse than that Labour day game? The #1 issue with this team since Lapo was fired is that guys haven't gotten the help they need. Bellefool helped with some guys on offense, Hall was one, but even he ain't that great of a coach. We get some better coaching for this team and a lot of guys will look a hell of a lot better. Elliott had the highest highs of any qb lately but the coaches refused to work on making him better they just tossed him aside cause of some problems. They did the same to Goltz after being so quick to throw him into the fire. Fix the coaching and you fix a lot of the problems with this team.
-
Joey Elliott still played better than Hall did. Higher peaks, lower valleys but even as a major Elliott guy I'd say Hall is more consistent. well do we put a factor in there for Crowton or not? Cause Hall didn't do **** all until well after Crowton was gone. The problem for both of them was a propensity to turn the ball over, to me Elliott was better at his best and that makes a big difference cause Hall had some pretty damned low lows himself.

Real ominous feeling. There's enough issues cropped up with Burke that I don't think he could get any amount of talent to win. Someone said somewhere here that Burke would probably have a losing record with the 2001 team, I think I agree with that. Some coaches just don't get as much as possible out of players and Burke is very obviously one of those guys.
