There wasn't hate as much as disdain that Mack could have picked him where he did instead of the 4th round where he belonged. He is 24 years old! Lots of guys don't even start in the CFL until they're older than that and you've already labelled him a bust! Walters always have that long pause and pained expression on his face when he's answering questions in those pressers though, don't read too much into that. What he said from all indications is the canned response from a GM about always looking to upgrade every position on the team at all times.

Stewart was kept around longer than he should have been based on his athleticism. Took him years to become a solid player and it only lasted a couple seasons.

well come on, the cap going up doesn't mean that teams can afford 2 starting qbs on their rosters, it just means that when bidding for free agents teams will pay more for the players they really want and it will inflate all salaries. Not going to have teams carrying 2 starting qbs because some other team will always need a starter and will be able to pay more for that 2nd starter on another team than the team he is with. It's just common sense.

I haven't watched any of the video from this press conference, but Walters always strikes me as someone who speaks very deliberately. Doesn't just blurt out answers, he always seems to pause and think about his response and try and say the right things. I like the way he answers questions to be honest. I wouldn't blame any of them to be honest if they were frustrated, press conference to introduce the teams new qb and I suspect the media only wanted to talk about the guys who aren't there. That'd piss me off too. Talk about Willy! He's the one that is here and will hopefully be winning games for the team.

Because the Roughriders would never allow it. For whatever reason their provincial pride is tied to the roughriders so people in Saskatoon are fans of the riders, would they all of a sudden start supporting the Saskatoon Berries? I doubt it.

yeah you can't hold poor performances last year against any player, they all took turns looking poor with such horrendous leadership from the coaching. No plan, no ability to teach players how to be better, just an all around clusterfuck. Really feel bad for the players who got ruined by that set up.

well I just assume that hype and tsn hype are one and the same. Yeah he played good, but it's also an offense that Ricky Ray played amazing in so what would he do in a different situation? I dunno. Always a risk involved with backup qbs going to a new situation. Collaros showed well but... seen guys in that situation falter before.

nah I didn't even listen to the interview I just know what the situation is in the CFL with regards to the number of quality qbs and what happens everywhere else in sports when a salary cap rises. Agents really don't care about the big picture, all that matters to them is how much do my clients peers get paid and how much can my client get paid.

Maybe, at the same time though you've got to admit out of all the young QB's that started last season Collaros was one of the most exciting to watch. IMO Marsh, Smith and Mitchell were the others and I suppose that's where the Toronto hype factor works in. Well difference between Collaros and Willy is that Willy didn't get nearly the opportunities to play. Honestly the most impressive of the young qbs to me was Smith

I'm not sure about that. If it was a different GM who gave this contract (ie Buono, Hufnagel, Barker) then I would be inclined to agree. Jacquie, the salary cap is going to go up. If it goes up to $5 million it stands to reason that the contracts for qbs will be substantially more. And that teams will carry more than just one qb capable of starting. I heard that entire interview. Hank's agent called the new tv contract "A brave new world". And he said that some GMs see it coming & are preparing while others are not. This is a player agent talking, a guy whose clients include Burris & Ricky Ray. Not some fan talking out of his hat. He knows what will be happening. You know what will happen with more cap room? All contracts will rise, yeah backup qbs will be paid more... but the gap between starting and backup qbs will still be there cause when teams have such issues finding guys who can play a backup on one team will get starting money on another. All you do is shift the current CFL payscale up for everyone and a new equilibrium is reached with things being structured the same.

More like questions being asked if we just lost Etienne for nothing and he played well elsewhere, don't you think? Well no I'm thinking more along the lines of if Etienne plays well somewhere else then why couldn't he do it here? Would raise a hell of a lot of questions about a lot of things don't you think? Like I said I don't mind trading FA for FA if you don't expect to sigh the guy but if the Bombers so totally gave up on/ never gave a chance to Etienne and he winds up working out where he plays next then it raises a lot of serious questions.

it's FA rights for FA rights correct? so if you don't think you're going to extend Jay Detain that's fine, but man if he goes to the riders and plays well there will be questions asked.

FB in the CFL these days is much more like a TE than a FB anyway so I wouldn't worry about that.

Hall and Willy battling for spots 1 and 2 wouldn't be the worst situation.
