I won't say completely devoid. There are a handful of talented rookie imports that I am excited about. Bruce Johnson, Maurice Leggett and Paris Cotton. That being said, one is injured and one probably isn't a starter so where does that leave us?
 
I'm just really, really disappointed at the level of defensive line prospects and receiving prospects we brought in. Look at our rush end depth. The backup is Louie Richardson. No offense to Louie Richardson, but that's sad.

Id like to see Knapp at Fullback and Turner at Tailback in a Goal Line Power I Formation. That would be sweet.

I have complete confidence in whatever line up we come up with on the OL.

So because of our scheme guys like Jake Thomas & Greg Peach are superior to Ted Laurent & Justin Hickman? I ain't buying it. 

Not a bad receiver, just not a very good one and that's why I don't want him being a starter. I'd rather start Feoli Gudino.

I don't see the comparison to Chad Plummer at all. Plummer was as useless as they come. Kelly (despite his bad drop on a short curl last week) will catch the ball more often than not, is effective running deep crossers as well as the fly patterns and creating mismatches in the endzone. He fills a nice role on this team as a fourth or fifth look for the QB.

After watching Knapp closely at practice I'm comfortable with him starting anywhere on the line. Guy is a beast and a physical freak.

DI'ing a DB is a very good Idea. You want Derek Jones playing half back if Washington goes down in a game?
 
Having three DI's on Defence guarantees we still have great depth at all position in case of injury.
 
Messam adds a different Dimension. You talk about DI'ing Ford instead of Woods... Great, I personally prefer that plan as well. But neither Ford nor Cotton can pound the ball on second and 2 like Messam Can, or on Goal line stands... Messam is a one Dimensional Back, But he is arguably the best at that Dimension. You cant Tell me that Pontbriand is as good as a former 1000 yard RB.
 
The reason why he is being Cut, is because he is a one dimensional Back, Not because he is a bad player. Possible Attitude Issues, but who better than to clear that up than O'Shea?
 
Weather you choose to admit it or not, Messam Makes our team better... And I sure as hell hope we DI a DB.
 
By the way, I really wish you would stop painting me in this light of wanting Messam "just because I've heard of him". I follow this leaue closely enough to know the names of the majority of the players and what they are capable of so this is kind of insulting to me

I saying Messam is better than Volny, all the stats pretty much prove it, and that by itself makes him an upgrade.  
 
I'm saying Messam is a valid game day backup for our starting RB and Volny isn't.  We almost  have to carry a second import RB and DI them unless we sign Messam because there are no other NI RB's available who can fill the backup RB role.  The big difference is that we have a choice if we hire Messam.
 
I'm saying Messam gives us a different type of back who would be a change of pace and could handle the short yardage runs, which would give him more touches than Volny gets so he'd be able to make more of a contribution.
 
All of the above make Messam valuable, both on paper and in game situations.  
 
I'm not saying Messam is a huge difference maker who'll win games on his own.  I'm saying he is an NI upgrade and we need all the NI upgrades we can find.

Specific examples of something that hasn't happened and likely never will?  Where's the face palm emoticon?  
 
Make up a fictional depth chart that has Ford as the DI, then you base your argument on it?  If we were to hire Messam, we wouldn't need to DI Ford, but we still could if it made sense.  A returner/receiver or a returner/DB would make more sense as a DI if we could adequately back up our starting RB with Messam.
 
You are obviously not reading what I'm typing.  My scenario is Messam replacing Volny on the roster.  Rostering 2 NI backup RB's makes no sense.  Short of a break out year from Volny, we will be actively trying to replace him in the off season anyway.

I think we will be fighting Montreal for last in the league... but am hoping for five or six wins.  Linebackers and NI will hurt us.
 
Linebackers - Biggest concern is Korey Banks and Desia Dunn - Etch seems to have them pencilled in as starters from Day One but they haven't shown much.  Banks looks to have lost a step, maybe he's waiting for regular season...  still, 35 is 35.
 
Kuale - glad to have him, but for me, he's always been a poor man's Brandon Isaac...  Didn't see enough speed from him last game - again, maybe he'll pour it on versus Toronto.
 
Wild looks good, but he's better at WIL.
 
NI Depth - passing over Laurent and then Messam, cutting NIs early in TC, banking our whole ratio on Watson's health... yikes.

With any luck at all, we ought to be better than 6 and 12 but I would consider this as a rock-bottom improvement. Etch had better get his fecal matter together, though or he will be gone by Labour Day.

I'll keep it simple.... encouraging start, lots of things to like about this team.... still lots of work to do, especially on D.... NI situation even more concerning with the loss of Newman for the year.... hope we can find a few FAs or pluck a couple guys off PRs...

Cotton has been one of the most impressive players on the team in the preseason games, if he wasn't starting the year I'd seriously question the coaches here. Guy looks like a very dangerous player. 

That problem sometimes exists, but not in this case.
 
I think you're just overvaluing Volny (Hint: He isn't a special teams ace, he can't stay healthy and he fumbles when he does get chances) and undervaluing Messam (Hint: His last years stats are better than Volny's career stats)

We have zero non-import depth.
 
Sign Messam, simply to replace Volny - who is our defacto running back and used as a 'change of pace'.
 
Messam provides at least a chance to win the starting spot... Volny does not.  If Messam surprises, we have our 7th starter... what's the harm in looking?  Maybe a $5000 signing bonus if that?
 
Messam is not going to get $125k...  maybe 80-90... bring him in.
