How can he get more playing time here if the coaches do not have confidence in his abilities? They have slowly tried to bring him along and when he got his chance he was like a deer in the headlights reaction....its professional sports you have to grab your chance when it comes along. Time to move  on.

Who said the coaches don't have confidence in his abilities?  If you're referring to them choosing Lefevour to start the last game of the season, that'd be more of a situational decision given the circumstances (short prep week, game significance, etc) as opposed to a lack of confidence.   If the coaches didn't think Davis was able, he wouldn't be here.

Seize the moment, yes, but give the guy a legitimate chance to do so.

  2. Two points regarding this thread:

    1)  Durant likely still believes he can compete as a starter somewhere.  Where?  I'm not sure.  If he came to grips with the reality, he likely would have agreed to a contract restructure.  Now he is unemployed.  Classic example of risk versus the reward.

    2)  People can crap all over Davis all they want, but the truth of it is, he needs more playing time to actually get better.  Starting from scratch with someone with no experience is going back to square one yet again.   Regardless of how long Davis has been with the team, it's too soon to write him off for good.

No it's actually quite simple.  If I see a play called PI in one game, and then an almost identical play not called PI in the next game, that is a problem.  I don't care what the definition of PI is as long as it is applied consistently.  This is the problem.

There is no way to spin this.  I watch both leagues obsessively.  I love the CFL.  I'm not trying to tear it down here.  CFL officiating is worse.  Objectively.  And it needs to get better... replay included.

On field officials call it wrong all the time, that's not what I am referring to.

Highly unlikely you're seeing "an almost identical play" being challenged one game to the next.  If you are, please enlighten me with an example.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that on-field CFL officiating is consistent and without it's faults.   Far from it!

What game were you watching all season?  Even after review it was a crapshoot whether a call would be PI or not.  It was totally inconsistent.

Call it a crapshoot or inconsistent or whatever you want, but what you're looking for and what the replay official is specifically looking for could be much different.   What makes you determine whether it's PI or not?  It's a fine line.  (This is a whole other problem.)

Are there mistakes either way?  Of course there are, but the system has made it better than what it used to be.

but PI is a subjective call, which is why reviewing it is crazy to me. By the letter of the law you can probably find PI on any play, which is why so many coaches went on fishing trips so much and it was so successful. It was a gross over reaction to one missed call in the playoffs a few years ago and it's made the game worse. Just let the refs call PI on the field and screw it up or not, feels better when it's screwed up in real time than when it's still screwed up after review.

PI is not as 'subjective' as it used to be.  Especially not after the review.  In my opinion, the review process has made PI about 90-95% accurate especially since there is a single review official that knows exactly what to look for now.

You won't see PI challenges taken out of the game any time soon as long they are accurately affecting the outcome of the game, which I feel they mostly are.

They had to dumb the system down further and further and work him up to those plays. He was that limited.

Yeah I hope to find a heavy cache of games on YT again for winter rewatching.

Most of the time you dont see that much. most players/positions any way. If you are in a position where you need to take into consideration all the other teams players its generally a slower to react position like saftey. fast wide spread read leading to a fast reaction play is about as hard as it gets. And why Qbs get all the love/hate.

Yeah its even more true in the nfl. Thats a big reason why they are soo heavy handed on prospects from none nfl style offenses. (even more so in the past) Some guys are real students of the game, guys who love to learn and improve. Peyton manning is a great example of this. Bruce arians has gone into great depth about his commitment, preparation and desire to learn. he tells one story about how as soon as manning was drafted, that night he wanted a copy of the play book to get started. They went to interview him, and it ended up being like a 3 hour meeting with him asking as many questions as they did. Where as ryan leaf blew off their work out, then wanted to do his own limited/easy open work out, and was out to party the night he was picked.  Thats a trait as rare as a phenomenal arm.  (the story is from his book the qb whisperer, a great read)

But once you have 6-8 years of high level experience doing some thing, changing is fantastically hard. Combine that with the type of personality a QB is fostered with / type the position attracts, and its good luck chuck. Jim harbaugh talks a lot about how hard/impossible it is to change most Qbs. That its more keeping them right rather then trying to get them right.  If any one wants I can dig up one of his (qb) coaching clinic videos. Bill walsh also talks about it in the score takes care of it self, and finding the winning edge.

In baseball scouting they look for guys with 1-2 skills that are at or project to a MLB level, then work on adding 1-2 skills and polishing what they have. Ive heard it said a few times that at best if you work really hard and well on improving a weakness, you can improve it to be mediocre. But you cant turn a weakness into a strength.  As seen in several drafts, the more exposed to competition some one is, the less potential they have. Noob gains, are allways the biggest gains.

Good info.  Just a personal suggestion from me:  Can you separate the titles of the books you refer to a little better so they are easier to identify?  (Eg. in bold, with capital letters, etc.)

    Thanks.

Those are Canadian yards, so, the equivalent of 3 American yards. Really, with the exchange, he had 777 yards over four games. That's almost 200 per game.

And, I think the Riders are getting rings and a trophy for making it to the East Final.

What more can he accomplish up north?

Congrats on a great CFL career Trent.  Thanks for gracing us with your talent north of the border.  We'll see you in the CFL HOF soon enough.

im kinda confused as to why anyone would take umbrage with the fact that Dressler going to visit him was news worthy... Slow news day and an impressive move by a guy to go see someone who really isn't probably in their close circle of friends, on their own dime.

people really getting testy around here.  we need a group hug or something...

    Don't hold your breath.

Also talk on Twitter that the desire to expand the American TV deal may lead to another American expansion down the road...

Wade Miller was on the radio yesterday and he said that this past season was a special case and they specifically went off the regular rotation to ensure a SSK-WPG game for the Mosaic grand opening.

Indeed they did.  There was only 1 season in between our 3-game series with them (2016).  Typically when you play two 3-game series against the same team two seasons in a row,  you will only play them twice each of the next two seasons.

I understand that we need to play two Western teams three times each. What I'm wondering is why wouldn't we have Calgary and Edmonton three times next season, after playing Sask & BC three times this year.

Because the way it tries to work is that you play the 3-game series with the same team two years in a row, so that the each team gets a chance to host the other team twice that season.

It's no secret that the Sask/Wpg rivalry is a big draw everytime, which is just good for the league.

  13. Home Opener Thursday, June 14 @ 7:30pm vs Edmonton

WINNIPEG, MB., December 14, 2017 –   The Winnipeg Blue Bombers will kick off the 2018 regular season at home against the visiting Edmonton Eskimos for the first game of the 2018 CFL season on Thursday, June 14th at 7:30 p.m. CTWith all eyes on Investors Group Field as the CFL season begins, the home opener will also feature a halftime band to be announced at a later date.

This will be the only home Thursday night game of the calendar year, as the Club has taken fan wishes into consideration and worked hard with the league to avoid weeknight games. In all, the Bombers will host five regular season Friday night games and three home games on Saturday.Among the 2018 schedule highlights, the Bombers will host the Saskatchewan Roughriders twice in the coming year.

After being on the road for weeks two and three, the Bombers are back home at Investors Group Field for a Saturday night game against West Division rivals, the B.C. Lions, July 7th.

The team is then back on the road for weeks five and six before hosting the defending Grey Cup champion Toronto Argonauts July 27th for Friday Night Football, followed by a bye in week eight.

Weeks nine and ten will also see Friday NightFootball at Investors Group Field with the Bombers facing two East Division teams in the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (August 10) and Ottawa REDBLACKS (August 17).

The Bombers wrap up the month of August on the road in Calgary to face the Stampeders and begin the following month in Regina for the annual Labour Day Classic September 2nd.

The long-rivalled Roughriders then visit Winnipeg for the much-anticipated Casinos of Winnipeg Banjo Bowl on Saturday, September 8th at 3:00 p.m., and will return Saturday, October 13th for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff.

Fans from around the province have said they’d like to see more weekend games in the summer, and we’re pleased to be able to offer that in 2018,” said President & CEO Wade Miller. “We look forward to hosting the league opener on June 14th right here at home. We’d like to thank the CFL, who worked tirelessly to accommodate all teams and release the schedule months earlier this year.”

Season tickets and flex packs for the 2018 regular season are available by calling 204-784-7448 or by going online.

Arent they talking about moving the start time of camp/the season again this year? I feel like they have changed soo many (or few but highly impactful things) the last few years.  Id like to see a little bit of refinement but nothing big. The change in start times from when I was a kid to now is pretty intense. (or so it feels any way) Reign back in the PI calls, let dbs defend. Idk if any thing else.

The season will officially be starting a week earlier next season.  Mid-June will be the first game.

Expect the schedule out MUCH sooner than in years past.

  15. WINNIPEG, MB., November 16, 2017 –   The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the club has re-signed national offensive lineman Patrick Neufeld, and International offensive lineman Jermarcus Hardrick. Both were pending free agents.

Neufeld has signed a two-year extension after spending the past four seasons in Winnipeg. The seven-year CFL vet was originally acquired in a trade with Saskatchewan in 2013, and has played in 82 career games. He started the final two regular season games at left guard, as well as the Western Semi-Final.

“Without question, I’m really grateful to be returning to the Blue Bombers,“ said Neufeld. “As an offensive line group, we all believe we are just scratching the surface of what we can accomplish, and to be coming back to play for Coach O’Shea and Coach Marty, honestly, I could not ask for anything more. Wade and Kyle have built such a desirable franchise here, and to continue to be a part of that is beyond exciting.”

Hardrick has signed a one-year extension after being named a West-Division All-Star in 2017. He started all 18 games this season at right tackle, and 16 the year before, after signing as a free agent heading into the 2016 season. The Nebraska Cornhuskers product will be entering his fifth CFL season in 2018.

“I’m having the most fun of my life playing football right now,” Hardrick said. “This is one big family, and the fans of the Bombers have been so amazing to me and my family. I’m just really excited and grateful for today and the opportunity the Bombers have given me.”
