  1. So in order to strengthen the game … you want to take what? 60 collegiate football players and somehow convince them to dedicate themselves to the game of football for half the regular salary, they don’t get to travel with the team to learn about what it’s like to be a pro on the road, they don’t get to make a living wage and they basically just get to what? Become special teams crash test dummies because they’re already the bottom of the totem pole as far as athletic talents go (otherwise they would hold a better spot on the roster) and their development is being accelerated at half the pace of their teammates?

Any specific reason you're excited for these 5 over other guys?

Based solely on highlights my 5 rookie americans I'm excited to see in camp are WR Aron Cruikshank, OT Larnel Coleman, DE Chauncey Rivers, LB Jeremiah Gemmel and DB Terrell Bonds

Specific but different reasons. KJ Hill has a very very similar profile to Austin Mack which is an exciting thought. As far as Waggoner, any Iowa defender is going to pique my interest plus all the academic and coaches selection awards in college give him a big “O’Shea guy” type feel. Fuller I followed on the Bills roster a bit and he’s a long rangy shutdown corner type, could be a productive guy up here if he picks up the nuances well enough. Lua is SUPER young (22) and didn’t even go through the NFL draft process, but he’s a versatile defender that could play a lot of different roles on our D. Finally, Woods is a guy they’ve had neg-listed for quite some time - couple that with them usually having a good eye for the DT types they like and I’m interested to see him in camp.

  3. For whatever reason, I feel like I’d really lost sight of how many interesting prospects the Bombers brought in this off-season. Not too worried about the massive amounts of WR or DB, that’ll sort itself out with reps but I do appreciate some of these names … real high calibre guys being brought up here.

5 names to watch in my obviously incredibly educated opinion: WR KJ Hill, DE John Waggoner, DT Jamal Woods, DB Travon Fuller, DB Juan Lua

    Bonus name, I think it’s a foregone conclusion he’s QB3: Eric Barriere

Bonus name if Janarion Grant doesn’t come back: WR Aron Cruickshank

I actually think the Hodge 2.0 mock is kindof good and much better than his 1.0 or Marshall Ferguson's flaming pile of let's call it work.

There will always be issues with a mock draft and fullback certainly isn't a glaring issue the team has to address in round 1. Ideally would hope they wouldn't take a RB or FB so early but if Chris-Ike was taken at 17 after his combine numbers I wouldn't be too shocked or upset. He will probably never be a stud RB but if he can fill in as a backup RB and starting FB while becoming a star special teams player that is valuable

I’ll give credit where credit is due. I think he’s off in a few places, but I don’t see a ton to criticize with his 2.0 mock.

  5. It would be insanity if Dublanko doesn’t go first overall … what more could you really ask for? Maybe he’s not the next Singleton but if he is? And he’s ready to be here? Easy pick.

I think the next 5-6 picks after that probably consist of a couple offensive linemen (maybe Dumoulin, maybe Wallace or Hergel, NFL depending) as well as Mardner, maybe Mital and a guy like Cantin-Arku or even possibly Brubacher.

When it comes around to us, I’d love to see us take whoever’s left between Wallace or Hergel (dream scenario right here) or potentially Brubacher, although I can see us being interested in a versatile guy like Labrosse too - he may fall more in line in that awkward range of picks between our first and second though.

Ottawa doesnt have a reciever on their roster that caugh more than 1 pass ly, do you think they will pass on mital and/or mardner?

Duncan-Busby is the next best but there is a noticable drop off (hodge has him 15 , Ferguson 17 pick) Fergoson doesn't have Ottawa picking a feciever in any of their 2 picks

You point 2 where Fergeson doubts his own ranking also indicated why his draft is less than stellar

As far as Straker goes i may have understated his value, although as an armchair gm, Deblanco seems a better pick

How do you manage to spell Ferguson three different ways in the same post?

Those RBs Herzog and Michael Chris-Ike will probably BOTH go in the top 3 rounds after those results. It seems like teams are valuing national backs more over the past few seasons

Daniel Adeboboye and Brady were both second rounders and they might have been better RB prospects (i really do not know) but they both had worse numbers

Last player to test like Herzog at the combine was Johnny Augustine. He went undrafted.

  8. Not going to do a mock yet, but there are for sure some interesting players at the combine even if a ton of the top end guys aren’t there.

I’d like to see more of Labrosse, Brubacher, maybe even Antoine in 1 on 1s

Mital didn’t show as well as I hoped, Herzog’s numbers are flashy but he’s not going to go high at all I don’t think. We’ll have to see.

As Walters said, who we pick will have to beat out someone on our existing roster, our first round will likely be Oline after that it will likely be who can improve our roster the most. At our second pick. it will depend whose available on the dline that better than Bennet or Smeckle. Or if we go reciever whose better than Murphy.

I’m pretty sure Walters could blindfold himself and throw darts at a John Hodge mock draft and end up with a better player than Tanner freakin Schmekel

I like your comments and agree. Mocks are mocks and in my case I further use them to get myself familiar with the prospects who are available for the year. I do research the current crop of prospects starting in Nov of each year and use the mock(s) as a guide and look to see if I'm way out. In some cases don't agree with the positions/players the Bombers would select as proposed, but still do find/use it as a tool for my purposes. I enjoyed reading/looking at these mocks. Good on the guys who do them!!!!

But, there are a few of the self pro-claimed experts in here and a few others that will band together if self pro-claimed experts are challenged in here. They love to shoot this/these mock(s) down as was the case last year as well. I actually would like to see their mock draft(s) as I asked one of them to provide.

Sure, I’ll put together a mock when it makes sense. Since I know I’m who you’re asking about.

Remember the mock drafts I shot down last year? And how I told you it was a bad draft year? I do. But in case you don’t …

    https://3downnation.com/2023/03/09/john-hodges-2023-cfl-mock-draft-1-0/

First overall pick went 16, nailed it. Our first pick at 8 went 20th, nailed it. 10 and 11 (as OL, nonetheless) went 48th and 57th and their situations didn’t change at all. I’m not criticizing his mock draft because he’s a bit off. I criticize it because it’s never even close, because he has no clue.

  11. Why is everybody so horny for a fullback early on all of a sudden? First of all, when’s the last time a top pick was used to draft a fullback and it actually panned out? Fullbacks in the CFL don’t need to test well or be elite athletically. They need be smart. Our fullback last year was a 30 year old rookie, not a pop-off-the-charts young athlete.

Second of all, we have a perfectly capable fullback for the packages we roll out. His name is Chris Streveler.

Need to look at the stats before making comments,, Hallet led team in st tackles. ly, clements had 6 ,and only 4 the previous yr. Ford In his rookie season had 10 st tackles.

Exume is good but was also cut by mtrl midseason

Oh so you’re one of those guys who thinks the only thing that matters on special teams is who makes the tackle. You know not every position on a cover team is “guy whose primary job is make every tackle”, right? You know there are no tackles to be made on plays where our guys are helping block for OUR returner, right?

The idea of BOLO (big, US college credentials) was much greater than the reality - 25 receptions in two seasons. I watched Jeremy Murphy a lot in RSEQ as my son plays there, and he is definitely a CFL rotational receiver. I predict he will put up better numbers, run better routes, and make tougher catches than BOLO. Not saying he'll be a star, but Murphy will be better than BOLO.

I wasn’t really talking about BOLO as a receiver. I was talking about his ST abilities, which were significantly different than the areas Murphy is going to be able to contribute.

Yup and those kick chasers haven't even looked that great at chasing kicks.

And we lost all of the key ones who did. Who is our Briggs? Or Miller? Or Exume?

We’ve got a few good ones like Cadwallader and I think Jake Kelly and both Halletts offer a lot too but our ST depth is super thin too right now as far as being proven
