Like I already said .... If Boltus is back at training camp then that is a huge red flag

Exactly.  Walters even said in his presser that none of these guys are recognizable names .. rather this might be a way (the neg list draft) to potentially upgrade back end roster talent ..

O'Shea said he wanted to act quickly.  I'm actually a bit surprised we havent heard anything yet.  Let's assume all eyes are on the draft on monday...expect announcements Wednesday perhaps?

Exactly.  Hence my interwebz remark.  I liked it.  And I actually did "Like it" by clicking the little button off to the side with the check mark thing beside it.  It's the little blue box...well I mean there's a few little blue boxes, but this one actually has a check mark in it...like the ones we use to get from our teachers in school when we did well.  Right...and beside this check box it says "Like This"...except without the quotations.  I used the quotations to signify that that is what it says INSIDE the box and so you wouldn't think I was just saying Like This in my sentence and not getting my point.

    ...*cough*...

I actually did just cough...I have a bit of a cold.  You'll all be happy to know though that it's almost gone, thanks for asking.

I don't think it's fair for you to expect Stubler to be interested in your life, especially while he's working.

So aside from his success as a special teams coordinator on a team that historically has had good special teams .. there's nothing else?  I don't ask to be glib .. I'm one of those people who is curious about *WHY* O'Shea would be a good choice as Head Coach.   I don't see the appeal myself .. especially for a team that's struggled (for the better part of a decade) to find an offensive identity.

Just curious (and am being sincere...) what makes O'Shea a good candidate, other than the media saying so for every open job the last few years?

voodoochylde got a reaction from TBURGESS in Zach Collaros or Mike Reilly?
Maybe it's just me .. but I don't (or haven't) bought into to Collaros hype train.

He's been put in a VERY good spot in Toronto .. operating behind a solid offensive line, supported by a staff which sports no fewer than 3 former CFL quarterbacks and has been tutored by a future CFL Hall of Fame quarterback.   Collaros *SHOULD* be doing well in TO and I'm not convinced he'll realize the same success outside that organization.   Of the two, I've been more impressed with Reilly and his ability to fight through adversity and find a modicum of success in the gong show that was Edmonton this season.   I think Reilly has "done more with less".

voodoochylde reacted to B-F-F-C in Tom Higgins interested in Bombers GM job
When Jim Popp was hired by the Als, he had 1 year of prior player personnel experience.  Prior to that he was a receivers coach.

When John Hufnagel was hired by the Stamps as head coach and GM.  His only player personnel experience was 2 years  with  the Arena league.

When Wally Buono was hired as the GM of the BC Lions.  That was his first player personnel job, previous CFL positions were all in a coaching roll.

When Jim Barker was hired by the Stamps in 2005.  This was his first GM position as well.

So history shows that GM's can be successful without previous experience.     Also all of these guys were hired by teams who were struggling at the time.

Yeah, ignore a direct question from the Official Broadcaster of the CFL. See how well that goes. That would be the opposite of smart, clearly.
I get that nobody here thinks Burke should keep his job. But anyone who thinks he didn't respond to this specific question the right way is allowing their hate for Burke to cloud their judgement.
Just because we've all checked out this season, and clearly some players have checked out this season doesn't mean he has. And that speaks to him as a man, and has little to do with his competence as a head coach.

I disagree with the suggestion that Neufeld isnt really that good. He is 24, and not starting with the Riders is more indicative of how strong their starting 5 are. "Neufelds got good physical stature, good athletic ability and the rudiments of a really good offensive lineman," said offensive line coach Steve Buratto. "He's been well-coached at the University of Saskatchewan and being at training camp last year helped.
    "He's a good, sound, fundamental football player>"
Now, I  know  some of you are a little more humble and not trying to be armchair football coaches, but for those of you whom assume you know more than a guy whom has coached in alot of different positions in the CFL for over 20 years I'm more likely to listen to Buratto, whom has won a Grey Cup, appeared in another, and taken his team to the Semis. The kid will be a starter. I actually predict that our O-Line will likely have Parenteau at center next year, with Jones and January at Tackle and Neufeld as one of our starting guards and Greaves as the other. Pencer could challenge, though I dont think he's ready yet.

Would appreciate including the link next time.

I did find the link and listened to Kyle Walters explain about the draft choices and yes I did have a little more appreciation for the homework he does regarding the players to be drafted.
He seems to be in tune with what he sees in the future drafts and what he expects to get out of them.
It not only makes me feel more comfortable with Kyle Walters but he impresses me in how he's handling this whole AGM situation.
He should be a serious candidate for the GM opening.

It also makes me wish our previous GM would have put more stock in what his asst. was telling him.

I'll throw back to what another poster pointed out earlier .. it's not as if we've had a lot of difficulty finding impact players at defensive end the last oh .. decade or so ..

Don't mind this trade at all.

Am I disappointed that our most dynamic player on defense has been traded?  Yes.  Am I glad that we managed to get something for a guy who was clearly on his way out of Bomberland?  Absolutely.   We acquired a non-import offensive lineman .. who is under contract for the next couple of years.  As people like to point out, the draft is a crap shoot and we've essentially eliminated some of the guess work in getting a player with a decent body of work at the next level.  He's not a rookie.  He's not making the jump to the pros.  We're not developing a project.  We're getting a young player who is only going to get stronger (over the off season and as he puts more distance between himself and his injury).   We did all that for a second round draft pick and a free agent import with NFL aspirations.   Oh .. we also nabbed a 4th rounder in a subsequent year ..

Not a bad day at the office.

Fleecing or nothing, he's one of the few reasons this team has for fans to actually show up or tune in and watch. Don't settle for a token draft pick if you're moving him, make whoever wants him pay if they want him.

I'm usually not down on the organization but this clown show is going to cost us a chance at retaining and attracting good players .. it's going to be a long while before we dig ourselves our of this mess.

Just a general thought  .. unless the organization is willing to invest in positional coaches on the offensive side of the ball (a dedicated QB coach) with the intent of developing that position, I'd lean toward a veteran QB .. if for no other reason than without adequate support .. the ability for a young guy to flourish here is non-existant .. I feel like we'd simply be running yet another young QB out of town.   Guys like Glenn, Burris and Ray (who I don't believe will be available) don't need a whole lot of hand holding .. and might be best prepared to step in here and realize some success.

It's certainly a nice sentiment, and how much an individual values such things will vary from player to player. One thing is for sure though: these guys aren't signing with any team out of the kindness of their hearts. They need to get paid, and making the playoffs is a big part of maximizing your earning potential. Fact is, as long as the Bombers are in a tailspin they'll have a harder time attracting (or retaining) quality players with options.

The decision to kneel at the half is totally who Burke is.
And that decision, at this time, in the overall picture of where the Bombers psyche is right now, was exactly what we didn't need.
How many jaws dropped when the return team hit the field?
How many more jaws dropped when we saw we were kneeling?
There was a chance to win. 2 plays, maybe three.
I don't care who you have at QB, you go for it.
    You play to win.
    You play to win.
