Colin, I have no idea where you get some of your ideas from, honestly. The CFL is dealing with a multi billion dollar entertainment company & multi millionaires running it. These guys don't go into deals with weakness. They are the money men. THEY call the shots not Randy Ambrosie. They'll make as good a deal as they can on both sides or walk away from it. Redbird, Garcia & Johnson have a plan that they'll follow. If not, they're gone.

Blindly voting for Trudeau isn't any better, I'm afraid. The past 5 years have shown that. like I said, I have 2 choices. I'd probably vote NDP if Layton was still here. He had a lot of political smarts & seemed to touch a chord with people. But I can't support that sorry pretense of a leader the NDP have now.

They acquire assets. Teams & organizations ready to go with people in place. As well as the 110 year history of the league. It help[s with credibility as well as stability. But like the NHL they care a lot more about new markets in American cities with a couple million or more people than say Winnipeg or Regina. Look how the NHL has dicked around Quebec City. In the time Quebec has tried to get back to the NHL, they dropped teams in Winnipeg, Las Vegas & Seattle while stringing QC along. The NHL have no plans to expand to that market even though they have a beautiful 18,000 seat arena in place & a superhot market literally crying for a team. Hartford will get a new team before QC does, I believe. Advertisers in the US would also look at viewership numbers generated down there not up here. Better ratings, more advertising & bigger future tv deals.

Where do the XFL owners want to grow their league? In the US or Canada?? Americans fans don't care about our rules & field size. The markets they really want are in the US just like the NHL. Why tweak an NFL field & make it 5 yards wider when it would have to be changed back a few months later? Too much work & the NFL & college teams wouldn't allow it. That makes no sense. The stadiums in the US aren't built for Canadian football. You seem to think our league will come into this merger (if it happens) from a position of strength. We won't. That won't happen. When you get a bank loan do you tell the bank what the terms are? Not likely.

here's what I think is happening. The CFL wants to stay relevant so they have to play. Liberals will give them no financial support. All their revenue streams have dried up. The owners of the XFL finance a season with no fans either by a loan or a promise that in return they join their league & go to NFL sized field & 4 downs with some CFL tweaks. No Canadian ratio only international players as a small part of the team. However, experienced CFL veterans would start & play on the Canadian teams but there would be no mandated Canadian starters. The new league opens training camps in the Southern US in late February, plays all of their games in March down south & once the weather allows for outdoor games up here in Canada from mid April they'd start playing home games in Canada. The schedule is April to September & wrapped up the championship at the latest by the end of that month. There's no other reason why the CFL would be talking to the XFL owners. They give our teams money. Here are the conditions you must meet.

I could never support Trudeau. Not after the last 5 1/2 years. I have 2 alternatives. Vote Conservative or not vote at all.
-
No thanks. The People's Party is home for racists & looney religious nuts, anti maskers, anti vaxxers as well as alt right conspiracy theorists. I'm Conservative but I'd never vote for those idiots.

I think that ship has sailed.

Sorry. I don't want the the Bombers to tap out. Maybe you want the league to die "gracefully" (whatever that means) but I don't. No one or thing ever dies gracefully. Unless you are an actor & do a death scene in a motion picture. The death of the Bombers will be sad. It will be messy. There will anger. There will be tears. There will be recrimination. There will be finger pointing looking for someone to blame. People will be upset. It won't be graceful. If you remember the Jets leaving town in 1996 just amplify that 10 or 20 times. Professional football in Winnipeg will be gone forever. I don't think people want that. I think Bomber fans will follow their team to wherever it goes.

Wow, that was a shocker! He was a great boxer. He & Hearns had a couple of really good fights.

I used to fear dying when I was younger. As I get older & closer to my fate, I realize it is inevitable. Death is a part of life. I no longer carry any fear. I do hope I stick around for a few years yet, though.
-
Well, I'm loading up on my Ambrosie criticisms... Lol The problem are stadiums in the US. None of them fit a CFL field. Who wants a 110 yard field & 10 yard end zones?

Ever try to stick a roll of toilet paper in a man's wallet? Another shining example of women not understanding men's issues.

No, get your vax shot... Stay healthy.

No, my comment was more of a joke than anything. We had a poster here (forget who) that said the problem with XFL rosters will be the turnover of players every year & the first player I thought of was Muamba. he's the epitomne of what is wrong with the CFL. And how neither the owners or players want to fix it. UFA's sign their 1 year deals & then move on. They know that's a problem for fans & yet the league & players seem blissfully unaware of the problems it causes so like most problems with the CFL, there is no leadership or will to fix it. And that is why the CFL is where it's at today shedding fans like a bird when it loses its feathers. I see it as a total lack of respect shown by the league & its players towards us... the fans. The ones that pay the freight thru ticket sales & merchandising. They don't care.
-
Muamba will never win a championship. He plays for money only. No loyalty to anyone. He never sticks it out. He doesn't play to actually help a team win a championship. As soon as his contract is up he's gone. If he happens to sign with a team that does then it's only because his timing was good.

Buy Westjet stock.... Gonna take off.

I don't get your point. He wanted to get back into calling NHL games. It was a career move. What about Dave Randorf? Gord Miller?? James Duthie??? They left the CFL broadcasts for other assignments. Does that make them disloyal, too?? Let's hope it doesn't mean Rod Black calls the Grey Cup. Gawd!!!
-
If Henoc Muamba ever makes the CFHOF what team would he go in as?
-
Your point about the one year contract is totally on point. Only a very few players actually live in the city they play because they move so much from team to team. Yeah, if they can handle adversity that goe s a long way to helping their careers advance. What happened to Paul Romanuk?
-
Sure he is. He does love the CFL.
-
Didn't Cuthbert make a name for himself in the 80's when during a CBC HNIC broadcast there was a power failure & as host he had to wing it for awhile n the semi darkness??? Apparently that catapulted his career.
-
I have a simple answer to your question, Mike. I've said it once or twice here already on different threads & certainly on social media on twitter, facebook & Instagram. I'm 65. I've invested nearly 60 years loving the Bombers & the CFL. However, my love for my team runs deeper than my love for 3 down football. I will follow the Bombers wherever they go. I'll never say adios or stop cheering for them. No matter what football they play or league they play in. Not if the alternative is ceasing to exist.
-
McAfee is a joke. Nuff said.

Imagine the CFL trying to pay back $150 million had they got it with interest from the feds? That would have eventually killed the league, I believe. Each team would have to contribute $4 or 5 million a year for decades. Then the Bombers still are carrying their stadium debt on top of that. No way that gets huge loan would ever get paid back.
