Fact of the matter is willy has not had a good oline from day one. In each of his first two years  he managed  early season victories while amassing massive damage along the way. He was broke down and had not recovered in the games he played this year. That was clear to the fans and especially  his teammates.  
He gave this team everything he had in year one and two. To start the year he was just a shell of what he was. He needs more time to regain that old form. He needs more time to work through his injury and trust his leg can once again take a hard shot. This is a mental hurdle he can come back from. Plenty of qbs have. Nichols has had the same battle in his career. We can afford Willy the rest of the season to sit and recover. We can revisit his contract in the offseason. We can allow him to battle for the starting position in training camp next year.
I hope this is how everything unfolds. This is how a classy organization would handle Willy.

We should keep willy and deal with his salary in the offseason.   I'm hoping we get to see him again soon, preferably whe we are up 30 points at the half and we are protecting nichols

I want this LDC to be a classic and to close out Mosaic as our house. I want huge hits. I want huge scoring from all 3 sides. Pick 6, kicks run back for 6 and Dressler and Denmark with a receiving TD each. I want a blowout of all blowouts. I want Jonsey so pissed he walks off the field without shaking hands again. I want the Rider forum to explode with disgust over how we ran up the score. We can do it. We need to just do it.

besides the money, the fact that not retaining him worked out soo poorly would only reinforce a desire not to repeat that situation. 
 
The double standard here with qbs is causing people to blind them self to the facts. Willy is damaged, not ruined. How much so the teams have a much better idea then the board. He was considered a strong mid level qb with high potential going into the season. The league is generally qb driven, its a rare thing for a D and teams like ours to perform as they have over the long run. The difference between nichols and willy isnt as great as some would think. What is, is more intangible. The OL turn around, D rounding out into maybe the best in the league, and teams steady improvement into a top unit isnt all because of the qb. Nichols was apart of the winning atmosphere we developed, but not the soul cause of it. 
Willy fits Torontos system as well. And millanovich likes to test the mettle of his qb and put them in the hardest situations. Doesnt get much harder then the first few weeks of our season. 
montreal could look to move on from glenn who wont get any better. 
Hamm could be interested if they believe now that masoli is no longer a qb of the future or present. 
I could see some other teams interested in him cheaper for a back up. Having a guy on the bench who has won games, and in the clutch late in games is a valuable asset. The question is at what price. if he is a stop gap in case a star qb gets hurt, hes worth less and if they have to pay him a lot of money the value is even lower. Look at the far worse qbs weve seen cycled through the league for a long time. If willy was a FA he would have plenty of interest.
I dont think there is going to be massive return by any means if we traded him. Probably a package that slides around salary cap relief and young talent. The other team taking more or less of willys deal, neg listers, maybe current young prospects or depth draft picks. 

I can't help but chuckle that some folks can't imagine the idea of Drew Willy being an effective starter ever again even knowing that the best QB mind in the CFL seems to think he can.

Another thing not mentioned is Leggett's interception basically took Nik Lewis out of the game.  Once Glenn realized the D was onto that route he never went back to it.

The riders receiver are unknown.  They are no more the future then mayo and Richards . They look,okay but aren't consistent and could just as easily flop.
 
smith and dressier are. Hilt for the now and future.   The cuter in football is 2-3 years and they were playing well before being injured.  So.  I don't see why the riders would rather have unknown, unflattering receivers vs consistently good/great receivers in smith and dresser and Denmark?   Please. 
We we said the same thing about out under performing online and recievers for the past few years.  It's best to accept what you have, it's easier to deal with next week.
 
riders win the LDC which will stop the bleeding for a week and then return to sucking the rest of year.   I don't think you can cut half your team and expect a winning record.

Loffler's presence makes a huge difference. His big hits are going to make opposition receivers focus more on not getting smeared and less on catching the ball.

Last night showed that Edmonton still hasn't fixed their defense. They'll win a bunch of games on offense alone, especially now that they've added a running attack, but that defense is still a long way off. They also need to learn the killer instinct. Put the boots to them so to speak.
The Riders looked bad for the first half, but actually won the 2nd half 22-11 and made it interesting till the end. Kinda reminded me of us when we'd put up a bunch of meaningless points until the other team woke up and put us down. The Riders need to beat us and Edmonton to get into the playoff picture. I don't see them being able to do either.

I did something I have never done before. I watched this game with the riderfans game thread in front of me. It was more entertaining then the game itself. That first half implosion had even the biggest Chris Jones Kool aid drinking green Goggle wearing fan boy calling for his head. It was awesome stuff. However with the second half comeback the delusions  "of we are so close" "I believe in Jones" reappeared. The one guy that suggested maybe  the Esks came out cold after half time was threatened by many of being a troll and getting banned.

The o-line IS better but not that much better that it explains the results.

Or I'm basing my opinion of Willy on more than a 5 game stretch where the defence and OL were both playing like trash.  You and 90% of this board have given up on Willy -  great, good for you.  I'm not there yet and I don't think the coaches are either.

He might be worth picking up just for the knowledge of the Riders playbook alone.
 
I started laughing a little while typing those words but then I remembered how poorly we fair in the back to back vs the Riders.

Well I watched him get netralized and physically dominated by UND in the playdowns. He was down right overpowered.
Connor had a great season but it was in arguably the weekest conference in college hockey in the last 10 years.
Don't get me wrong he will be a beauty one day. The Jets have players in the system that in my opinion are futher in their devleopment then Connor is. Petan Dano Armia are three of them.

While the few tweaks they were forced to make on the line helped I still think Willy was his own worst enemy. Far more than the o-line. The biggest difference between Nichols and Willy is that Nichols has been able to execute the offence the way it was designed Willy wasn't. Willy often held the ball far to long and he just wasn't progressing through his reads fast enough. If you are holding the ball on three the you more often doomed ... Unless you can scramble.
I don't blame Willy for his issues though I blame that on those who refused to see and properly deal with them.

When Scheifele was Connor's age, he played 4 games and got sent back down to Barrie.  Connor will only be about 3 months older (December birthday vs. March).  
In Scheifele's first full year (and even second) he was continuously getting knocked off the puck and onto the ice.  He really couldn't compete physically with NHL players.  You could easily make the argument he could have been helped with a year in the Moose.  However, the Jets were razor thin on forward depth at the time.  We aren't anymore.
Scheifele and Ehlers were also top 10 picks.  Connor was 17, and while he probably should have gone a little earlier, he definitely wasn't a top 10.  Picks outside the top 10 drop for a reason, sometimes talent, sometimes late bloomers, sometimes need more time.
Besides all that, every player is different, so these comparisons are silly.  Connor's play will decide where he goes, not any comparables.
You keep going off here how Connor is a lock to make the team when we've never even seen him play against NHL players.    Training camp will ultimately decide where he plays.
The Jets have never been in the position they are this year with the depth and young talent at forward.  It is going to be a dog fight in training camp for a bunch of players, Connor included.

I like Sam on special teams but he is not helping a defence out by starting for them.

xD he was soo over blown. Hes a good guy to have as a spare lber, teams guy etc. short of tailoring a system around him though hes not a good starter on a contender.
