I think some people still forget that Nichols is - by far - the best QB we've had since Kevin Glenn 1.0... I like Nichols and I'm 100% confident that the best version of him is good enough to win a Grey Cup... where I'm starting to get very concerned.... is how often are we getting the best version of Nichols??... at this point, it's 4 out of 7 games.... which is not often enough...

I'd expect a 9 year vet to be able to make a pass over 5 yards and without the receiver having to contort or dive to catch the ball.   Their is reason why people have zero patience with the guy anymore.   The easy stuff shouldn't be such a massive struggle for the guy to perform.    He shouldn't require every single player around him to be playing at an all star level just for him to make a few passes.

Nichols isn't all that good and Lapo doesn't trust him with more than he is currently giving him...  so Lapo thinks he's doing everyone a favor by giving Nichols what he thinks he can execute but it just makes everything more predictable and easy to stop... it's amazing that Lapo doesn't see it... I think Lapo is trying to keep Nichols from spiraling completely into the abysss… he doesn't do Streveler any favors either, or the team for that matter, by giving him what he does... it has become equally as predictable.... which you could make the case that this is the reason for some of the O line trouble as it doesn't take much pressure to get Nichols to bail...

There seems to be a chicken/egg scenario. Is it Lapo calling garbage games or is it Nichols not being able to execute? I am no fan of Lapo but I refuse to believe after all his years in the league he has become braindead and is calling a bunch of 5 yard outs on 2nd and 8. I think its Nichols being too risk adverse and wanting to get rid of the ball too early before the plays have developed/guys get open. I remember last year after one of his shitshows he threw the receivers under the bus saying no one was open all game. Like give me a break. Maybe if you would hold onto the ball for more than 2 mississippis someone could get open for **** sakes. He's like the anti-Mike Reilly. Reilly will wait until the last possible second to throw just as a 300 pounder buries him into the turf. Not saying that's a better outcome but somewhere in the middle would be a nice spot for Nichols as opposed to dumping it off cause he felt a slight breeze.

Conversely, you and your ilk appear prepared to excuse Nichols no matter how poorly he plays.

I just can't buy the play calling excuse. 
Are you suggesting that LaPo is calling for 4 yard dump offs to Harris and having all of the receivers running routes as decoys?   I keep bringing it up but last year when Streveler was in ,  immediately guys like Wolly started getting targeted 10 - 15 yards down the field on plays that start out exactly like the ones that Nichols run.  
Also you can't fault LaPo when Nichols has time in the pocket and his receivers have to dive, jump,  fall back just to catch the ball.   
If I were to put a blame % between the two... it would be 80% Nichols and 20% LaPo. 
My only gripe with LaPo is that he doesn't use more sweeps and other plays (i.e. hand off to whitehead) when it's obvious late in the game that they will be running up the gut. 

Nichols requires a completely clean pocket to be even remotely effective. He’s the type of QB who makes his line look far worse than they are because essentially any pressure wrecks the play. 

I agree - but he does need to be able to make some plays when he's not completely clean in the pocket - plays other than dumping it off to Harris. 

I think its the way theyve lost the games that most people are panicking about. No one would be complaining if they lost a 31-30 hard fought game against Hamilton with Masoli and Nichols trading punches. Its the fact that happy-feet hot garbage Nichols is back and the once stout defense is giving up huge yards to clowns like MBT.

I would buy that more if Nichols wasn’t historically reluctant to take responsibility for poor performances. It’s his right to say what he wants, I am just responding to a comment referring to Nichols as a guy who owns his mistakes which is clearly not generally the case.

It kills me to say it but it looks like those trash Rider fans have been right all along. Nichols is and always will be a ham 'n egger. No consistency, too conservative, cant/wont stretch the field, cant handle the pass rush, panics too quickly, cant go through his reads, mentally fragile. This team is going nowhere with him at the helm. Im convinced of this now.

Im honestly ok with that if its gets Nichols the **** off the team. Im tired of his jekyl and hyde show. Some guys just don't have it when the chips are down and the game is on the line. Time to see what Streveler can do.
