There would still be reserve spots where a 3rd QB could live on the roster.

It would be insane for teams to not carry at least 3 QB's, whether you can dress them all or not.

Pretty sure tehre will be 2 spots on the AR for QB's... unless you're hiding one on IR...

My thoughts on our qb situation into next year......Collaros is gone. Too much risk with an injury to justify a 1st round draft choice.

Nichols I'm on the fence over. And it has to do with his shoulder. That could possibly be a career threatening injury.

Streveler is getting significant raise and he's back. I really don't think he gets an NFL look.

Mcguire is back because he's under contract.

So, those are our 2 QB's for next season?  Because we can only have 2...  McGuire can't go on the PR without voiding the contract you are quoting...

  3. Lapo to BC?  I want to know what they are smoking at 3Down... there are so many other potential HC's for BC...  but hey, he has connections to BC, he grew up there, his wife is from there... oh wait.  I guess there is familiarity with Chungh... and having 1/5th of your SMS tied up in your QB and RG...  I don't think Lapo goes to a rebuild team when he can be on a contender... BC is not going to be a choice landing spot for an HC.  Maybe Maas...

WINNIPEG — The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have acquired quarterback Zach Collaros and a 2020 fifth round draft pick from the Toronto Argonauts in exchange for a 2020 third round draft pick and a conditional first round pick as early as 2020 should Collaros re-sign with Winnipeg.

    https://www.cfl.ca/2019/10/09/bombers-acquire-zach-collaros-argos/

Why does the deal have to end at FA?

Because when a player "re-signs" with a team, I take it to mean he signs while still under contract.   Once they hit free agency, its not really a re-signing, but a FA signing...

  5. CGY was set to take on Harris and shut him down, and then we didn't go to Harris, so they adjusted at halftime, and we brought in Streveler... yup, CGY got outcoached.  And Bo mentioned that the D gave looks and then fell back into coverages he couldn't read quick enough.  Brilliant of Hall to take advantage of Mitchell's quick release by preventing him from making reads presnap.  By the time he could make a read, the ball was already out and heading to a Bomber...

Wonder what will be in play for this week... will be fun regardless.

You're prolly joking but the draft is only a couple of weeks before training camp. Does a team really want to wait that long to determine their QB situation?

Besides, the 1st round pick doesn't have to be from 2020. If the Bombers signed Zach after the draft the Argos would get a pick from a future draft.

Also if the Bombers do sign Zach it looks like Walters and the Argos can negotiate what draft year the 1st rounder will come from. If the Bombers win the Grey Cup this year that pick from 2020 would be 9th over-all.

Do they still owe the pick if he is not extended by FA?  If they don't "re-sign" him before he becomes a FA, then I think that the transaction becomes complete.  It can't be "if the Bombers ever sign him to a deal"...  it has to end at FA...

I dont have any contact information for the coaching staff but I am sure Lapo doesnt want my apology. They got it done and thats what they are paid to do.

    Next:

    Riders !

"Got it done"?  Understatement.... Stamps were favoured, at home.  We started a QB who has been here a few weeks, against the CFL's highest percentage wins QB, whom his coach says was playing his best ball of his career.  And we gutted them.  Hall held them to ZERO points in the second half, and ZERO yards passing in the 3rd quarter.  We spanked them.

The hilarious part of this trade is it totally screwed the 'Riders over. They got a 4th-round pick that could have (conditionally) upped to a 2nd-rounder if Collaros played significant time with the Argos. He didn't, but the Argos still come out ahead because they flipped him to us for a 3rd rounder (potential 1st-rounder if we were to re-sign him).

The Argos paid him the entire time he was there, at full rate, just not on SMS.  The 3rd rounder doesn't change to a first if we sign him, they add a first.  Have to wonder if Collaros playing for the Bombers affects the pick the Riders got from the Argos...  is "significant time" just regular season?

Collaros is good, but Nichols is the man here if healthy, and he wants to be here.  If we have teh same lineup next year, you can bet Streveler gets more reps.  Which wouldn't be bad for Nichols either.  IF he accepts the role.

  9. I guess if Zach is unsigned after the draft, and we sign him, we can't really give him a draft pick that is already spent...

I can't see resigning Zach with that price tag.  Especially if Nichols is back and healthy.  Nichols at a lower rate, Streveler at an increase, and the two headed monster running more 50/50, not 85/15 like this year...

If O'Shea can have his contract extended on the basis of one good game, then he ought to have been fired on the basis of one of the horrible games he oversaw.

And Dickenson ./ Huffnagel should be shown the door after that last game...

Its not on one game that Osh gets his new deal, but that one game will help decide the price.  This next game, even more.  It may have taken some time to adjust to a new QB, and then to this tandem, but we got there,  Streveler was no where near as good as a starter as he is as a counterpunch.  Getting the team to that point, to where all facets are firing on all cylinders, that's what coaching is all about.

Hall kicked CGY's butt.  His schemes did not give any one player any flashy stats.  It was a team effort.  And again, that's coaching.

  11. I think that the coaching staff all deserve kudos for the effort.  All three phases clicked against a very strong opponent, and Hall especially frustrated the leagues best QB playing his best football, at home.  Sure, no Rogers.  But they just got back Jordan.

Even if they don't beat the Riders, which I am confident they will, now seeing teh two headed monster that is Collaros and Streveler, and the confidence of our DB's... I think that Osh has punched his ticket for next year at full pay.  going to be interesting to see if he can retain Lapo and fit under the front office SMS cap...

Everyone on here knows that tho. I think the point would be you don't need to post that about Gray cuz we all know

Then the post I was refering to was redundant, because we all know that with FMB signed, all the DP's have been signed...

I know this is your schtick and everything, but we don't need that here. We know the deal with Gray, guys like bigg jay don't need to be corrected on semantics.

Not semantics, facts.  Sorry if you are that easily offended by correct information being posted.  Gray is not unsigned, stating so would be implying that Walters has not done his job in signing him.  Gray is not capable of being signed by the Bombers at this time, so there are no Bomber DP's not under contract.

FMB officially signs so all the draft picks aside from Gray are under contract now.

All the Bomber draft picks *are* under contract now.   And there is one SSK DP under contract... to Tampa Bay.

Umm.. technically Gray is under contract too... just not to us.  So, ALL of our DP's are signed to professional contracts.  Jones has drafted one player that has a valid contract signed, Auclair.  Who has signed with.. the Bucs.

His first deal was definitely only 2 years... I remember the boards being unhappy because of this.

The first deal was originally thought to be 2 years, and the boards were unhappy.  But then the truth came out when he extended...   Its not the first time that we were unhappy based on inaccurate info...

I highly doubt the team itself reported it's own signing incorrectly.

    http://www.cfl.ca/2017/02/14/bombers-extend-former-first-round-pick-chung-extension/

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the club has extended the contract of offensive lineman Sukh Chungh through the 2018 season. Chungh was entering the final year of his contract in 2017.

Which means he had originally signed a three year deal....

Is every "entry level" contract in the CFL 3 years?

59 minutes ago, bigg jay said:

No.  Chungh only signed a 2 year deal when we drafted him.

Pretty sure Chungh signed for 3, he just extended early...

No, every entry level contract is not 3 years, but Mr. Walters seems to be able to get guys to commit to that.  Which is just another example of his awesomeness.  Walters gets our DP to sign 3 year deals, Jones can't even get them to sign at all...

  18. So, Walters has signed all his DP's except the Gray flyer and the kicker returning to CIS.

Reed has signed his entire draft class.

Jones hasn't signed a player from the draft yet.

    Wow...

But Jones does have Young, Glenn, Carter and Owens... plus Muamba, Steele, Edem and Bridge (a Nat QB for criminy's sake, does he realize that passport doesn't matter for QB's?)

For a guy that wants to have 90 players on his rolodex each week in a pre-practice roster way, he certainly is finding a way to alienate draft picks.  Top draft picks deserve cash up front, you obviously value them as such.  Its not like he has 20 of them to sign... and dragging this on now is just going to make future extensions that much more difficult...  which is great for the rest of the league.  Keep up the great work, Mr. Jones.
