Round 2 - Game 1 : Montreal
Wanna-B-Fanboy replied to FrostyWinnipeg's topic in Winnipeg Jets Discussion
Just out of curiosity, if MS hit Evans before he scored- would it still be charging? -
First off... I was no fan of the Selinger government... but having the dubious distinction of have the WORST PER CAPITA RATE OF NEW COVID INFECTIONS, NORTH OF THE MEXICAN BORDER is something I feel the previous government would have avoided- thats just me. Also, those changes, sorry cuts, to the ICU bed numbers and closing emergency rooms across the city... wouldn't have happened and would not have exacerbated the strain on our healthcare system... /rant. Idiot needs to keep his mouth shut.

Good on Nik -
These strict measures were implemented on May21st, so I guess we will see if they are successful or not in the next week... until then (more like three weeks from now)- our healthcare system will still be crushed...

If not just for appealing to ones own humanity, there are other reasons we should be helping poorer countries get their population vaccinated: - If we want things to actually go back to normal, we need to stop VoCs, these are the largest threat to us getting back to normal. VoCs originate easily in a population where the virus burns through the population unrestricted. Vaccinated populace helps prevent the rise in VoCs. -The IMF projects that a $50 billion investment into vaccine roll out in the poorest of countries, would generate returns of $9 trillion in the global economy. -lastly, it's the right thing to do.

This is a really interesting read, thought I would share. They basically reversed-engineered the voter suppression through disinformation and division tactic used by Russia. Solid read.

I think Sputnik V will be giving Sinopharm a run for it's money

We also need to ramp up and be part of some coalition to help vaccine the poorest countries... I mean check this map: Until we get the world taken care of... there are going to be constant threats of new variants and immense loss of life.

Solid article by Bartley: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manitoba/manitoba-third-wave-analysis-1.6043632 "They dithered with half-measures, ignoring the science and evidence all around them, and eroded public trust while squandering a month-long cushion at the start of the third wave," Souradet Shaw, a social epidemiologist at the University of Manitoba, said in a series of tweets on May 20 after Manitoba Shared Health began to transfer ICU patients out of province. "Instead of developing a clearly articulated and evidence-based strategy to tackle predictable surges, they impugned critics; misled the public through distortions, obscuring data, and accountability, and blamed everyone but themselves."

This NEEDS to be posted. Please.

It would have been a political boon to have enacted stay at home orders when the experts said to shut it down...

So... For January to last week...no work place transmission and no school transmission.. everything is safe to protect the economy. This week: oh look there was school and work place transmission... Why does the Conservative government hate its constituents?

But science evolves. The studies originally said 1 in every 260000 people develop VITT from the Astrazeneca shot... real world data shows 1 on 55000... So, if the data is now showing a more robust response with a larger wait time... we can probably safely assume that it probably does. You make decisions based on the best available data at that time. Trust me... if I was given the VITT stats now (1 in 55k) instead of the 1 in 260k I may have made a different decision.... but I can only make the decision based on what is known at the time.
