  1. Past hour
  2. He did start a few games in 2021 but only due to Stove getting hurt. When Stove was healthy, Sayles was the back-up.
  3. Iirc, Schoen kind of replaced Darvin Adams didn’t he?
  4. I did a rewatch of the Strevy portion of the game, focusing on the line. on second watch Wallace was even better than my initial viewing. He was excellent in pass pro and run blocking, moved his man with command and scored two pancakes. He also moved extremely well when pulling and going to the second level. He could start in the league this year. Look forward to seeing if he can keep it up. Lofton was more mobile than when he was with us before, but still can’t handle speed off the edge, and would need a vet like paddy next to him to lead in terms of switches, blitz pick ups etc. didn’t move the pile, and his tipping the play was easy to pick up in the first drive. Kola was his usual self. Good snaps, struggled with guys on the nose and cross face. Dobson was cruising and mashing. All his snaps looked good too. Augustine struggled with picking up the blitz and block/release. Strevy also struggled to read blitz pre snap. Cruickshanks play failing to get out of the end zone was sketchy too. Then he had a miss que on offense late as well. Smith is the front runner imo, both cruickshank and Blackmon are as likely to play the next game as being cut imo
  5. Casey Sayles came into a starting role pretty early on, and would probably still be starting here now The best 70k the Bombers ever burned! Thank you again for being a snake, Darian
  6. I'm honestly not sure the point you're trying to make here, Booch. There's always a path to where a guy gets his opportunity. You explaining each guy's history doesn't make it a moot point. These are examples of Americans earning roster spots. This year, we'll see even more. I'm just pointing out that there' more that goes into it than the couple splash plays we see in games.
  7. For those of us who are less net savvy, for whatever reason, I would like us to have a place to quickly go to to find upcoming Internet events. When a bomber game is posted on YouTube, were to find certain podcasts, how to find a game being streamed, what CJOB might be doing in a special way, and other stuff. I'm not so much interested in commentary as just a common place to go for a little Bomber extracurricular: here for example is the CFL's screening page: https://www.cfl.ca/category/cfl_plus/
  8. Thanks to the guys who clarified Chris Smith. I liked the way he attacked the ball and with speed. I mentioned it and Booch went a little more into it, Cruickshank didn't show well. He was too tentative IMO.
  9. going against our coverage teams tho.....i wouldn't put much stock in that.....If I was to bet who it is....I would say Smith as he a legit swiff army knife ala McRae...only 5x better
  10. Nichols was an obvious no brainer...and we had no HB coming back.......Holm was a second yr guy last yr.....Parker got stone walled and buried for well over month when he could have played...seen it first hand and asked him....Streveler....had to start as we had nobody....and sadly if Nichols hadnt got hurt...And Durant showed up....we would prob not even have a Strev story....Lawler as well....came in mid season off the PR...he earned it...wasnt a gift, and really?...the best WR in the league?...if the staff would have continued to park him they all should have been fired. Schoen was in an open tryout for 1 spot and won....we needed a guy and had no incumbant...so that also is a moot point.
  11. The Riders had a couple of good looking returners yesterday and unless they move on from Mario Alford, they're likely to be cut loose.
  12. Now the problem with this line of thinking is guys like Alexander, Holm, Lawler, Nichols, Parker, Schoen, Streveler... who all came in and earned significant roles from Day 1. Obviously the process isn't and can't be perfect. But it's not like we have zero examples of it. Even with a veteran heavy team, there are examples every year of Americans coming in and earning spots.
  13. Unfortunately i think Eric has exposed his Barriere after that game. Sorry couldn't resist.
  14. valid points...if applicable/true....but I not buying that...if guys aren't putting in the work in all facets...then they should be gone....and why they here...that can point directly back at the coach actually....and with culture.....it's good to a point until culture impedes talent....and when that creeps in...and the complacency having too much comfort knowing you are saying and doing all the right things and you are secure in your spot....it tends to stagnate things. Same with his quotes of "he practiced real hard" we like that so we put him in....well who's not...and if they not...why waste a roster spot on them?.... I made it a point laat year to go to practice for about 3 straight weeks....to see what was going on...talk to some people...get a feel....and there were guys significantly better...putting in the work....even after team ran mandatory drills...and they had no hope in hell of being used, as they were either 1) less than a yr here 2) not a favorite of a particular natuonality 3) not a teachers pet 4) victim of stubborn bias' Many people have commented on many a coach before of American decent and training favoring Americans and not putting enough of the same dedication/appreciation into their Canadian players...well we have the oposite here of that....and examples of it are clear and easy to see with not utilizing the certain rules that would be beneficial...starting extra Canadians for no other reason other than they are Canadian and Osh is we all know a proud Canadian...so thats his soap box to show it...I would be more intune with it if we in turn rostered guys who we could freely rotate in (Imports) and take advantage of that....but we don't even do that....so again....theres no point to it, and it hamstrings your roster and depth, as it doesn't allow you to have guys get in games, and get reps behind thier merican starters, so when in times of injury you actually have a player in the wings...aka a contingency plan for a rash of injuries....and we have been boned soooo bad the last few yrs due to that you would think a light bulb would switch on...This yr will be interesting to see what plays out. Do I know it all...better than anyone...no....have I been coached and coached with really good coaches....and in camps in the CFL...NCAA and NFL....yes....so have seen many a way to run/coach/manage a team and for all the good I see here and love....there are several things that would have made us a team talked about for generations....
  15. We should monetize this. "The Riders are awesome. Everything is cool when you're wearing green." Now to sit back and wait for the $ to roll in.
  16. Today
  17. MOS has to wear those mistakes you discuss. 100%. PR usage, designated Americans, The F'ing FB usage, letting players dictate too much. The things I give him the benefit of the doubt on are some roster decisions around new players coming in. A lot is discussed about MOS's loyalty to guys, but we also have examples of rookies coming in and playing right away. When we have players that look good in limited action and they can't seem to stay on the field, everyone gets all on MOS for staying loyal to whatever vet is in the guts way, but no one asks what the player is or is not doing to get on the field. There is so much we don't see. When are they getting to practice, are the putting in the work off the field, in the meeting rooms, are they where they are supposed to be on the field on the plays we don't see? We know the formula for becoming one of the favourites. Steal snaps, be a hard worker, get in early, stay late, be a good teammate, know your role, etc, etc, etc. The one thing we can all agree on is the culture reset that has happened under the current regime. MOS is loyal to the guys who are good examples and set that culture. When a guy can't get on the field, we have to put some of the onus on the player too. Not just blame MOS for keeping a guy down.
  18. So glad to open up the Freep's website this morning and see a single Rider-slanted Canadian Press article about the game yesterday. *sigh*
  19. I agree with your assessment in general and I was disappointed in hindsight as well. I would like to see MOS manage the roster better as well. You are right he has to wear that, I am simply pointing out that some of these decisions can be very hard to make and a coin flip as to whether they turn out well or not. They are not as black and white in decision making as they appear to us, the fans. You make a valid point on having contigencies on these tough decisions tho.
  20. Ford......Garbutt.....Wilson , after he found his game and looked like he wants it more than Barriere..... Wallace surprised me and looks like a keeper (about the broadcast....and I don't think preason games are any indication of a teams success or failure during the season....but for cripes sake at least get a players name and number correct so we can identify a player....Example Adams made a couple of nice catches and the broadcast guy sounded like he didn't have a clue who he was....They get an E minus for their effort)
  21. Chris Smith, was unspectacular in the KR/PR but he did field nicely and went downhill every time. I believe that is who you were thinking about. The kick coverage is always lousy in the preseason for all teams that go into the game with the number of rookies that we did. I am not concerned by that, and expected that. I don't think anyone grabbed the returner spot or can be considered a favorite at this point.
  22. Moses did too...he definately showed he knows whats going on...where to be....what to look for...and made plays and was all over doing it Chris Smith....Mr Generic....but I would say prob guy on offense with most explosive potential....hope he gets a huge work load against the Stamps he actually dissapointed in my opinion....and that was ....dissapointing
  23. Yes. That's the way they like it - heads in the sand, thinking they are the flagship franchise and the team to beat.
  24. also....More credit needs to be levelled at Walters and his scouts for bringing in the guys for Osh to use...and at times not be using....and thats where I also critical of him not being more the "Boss" as opposed to buddy and calling coach out on some his poor decisions.... And yeah....as mentioned above...I dont wanna say the I told ya so as well....but have basically been saying it 2 yrs running now....I know some here like to go back and cherry pick things I said and bring them back to bolster a claim against what I said....or show some form of negativity...well go back and look for what @Mike just mentioned....specifically said we will feel this poor decions at the absolute worst time....and it's happened 2 yrs in a row now...Also said last year weeks after Garbutt arrived that there no reason he should not be playing...had the best first step of anyone and most explosiveness....go back and look....and who popped off the page last night showing exactly that?...yet we dressed Jackson...relied on Bennet....etc...etc.....why?....It's because at times our coach plays fav's and likes to reward guys at the sacrifice of a best roster....even if they just stand on the sidelines all game and dont even put a helmet on we got hit hard last yr at a critical time with injuries...and we had absolutely nothing to cover our butts.....cause we had role/teams players who our coach claims are all number ones....complete crap....you don't need to butter a pro's buns to make him happy if he not playing a big part...and if you do...then find some new pro's
  25. Who is the color guy on that broadcast? Is it Mullinder? That guy needs to get cut ASAP, I'm only half way through watching the game and what he says on air does not represent what is happening on field at all. The PBP guy is nearly as bad. I'm at the part with 52 seconds left in the half where Pipkin runs out of bounds and runs into Jefferson and bounces off of him. PBP guy says Pipkin was hammered by Jefferson and Mullinder is saying a penalty should be called. Jefferson didn't lean into him and was standing upright the whole time with Pipkin just scraping by him and falls down on his own. Also Mullinder at this point is extremely minimizing the errors of the Rider players almost making excuses or pretending that things didn't happen (i.e. great play by a Bomber or a big error on the Rider). I.E. Harris missing Bane by a mile and instead of saying how bad of a pass it was, Mullinder talks about how great of a training camp they have had so far together. Also every Rider has had a great training camp, no rookies have made any mistakes, no veterans need to look over their shoulders, Pipkin is amazing because he made a single throw. Streveler is a running back only as per Mullinder... he only can run he can't throw, he is extremely one dimensional. Mullinder is basically singing the Lego Movie - Everything is awesome song. If I were a Riders fan listening on the radio, I wouldn't be thrilled because you don't actually get any real feedback on who is performing and who is not.
  26. I don’t think that’s a fair take because it’s so much deeper than just one game. We didn’t even prepare a contingency plan last year for any of this stuff. He went all the way in on the vets and left everyone else behind. It bit us in the ass and whether we want to acknowledge it or not, he *has* to wear that. It’s not an I told ya so, but @Booch and I were literally saying “gee I hope this doesn’t bite us in the ass at a bad time” as early as the first week of camp last season and it bit us at the absolute worst time. The whole season had major reunion tour last show ever vibes.
  27. Its too bad Rod Black isn't still around if a guy named Moses ends up patrolling the bombers defense. There's a lot of material there. I can't imagine Barriere has any way of winning the number 3 job after that game. Both the fact that Wilson looked solid and in control and Barriere while showing some athletic flashes looked rather awful in the the passing game. I would imagine most of next game will be dedicated to getting Zach ready and giving a few extra reps to Streveler. How much opportunity will Barriere even have to redeem himself? At this point i think Cruickshank is probably in line for the return job. He didn't do anything on returns but nobody else flew off the page. I love Cruickshank's college highlight package and the bombers used him on offense. He got a sweep and a couple catches. The main separator right now is that he seems to have the potential to do more than just return kicks or at least the bombers seem to think so. Chauncy Rivers has to get some credit for making a sack. I like his size and lets face it his number of 56 at that position might be an omen. In terms of potential dev roster guys i thought Hackett looked pretty good to me if there's still room in the CFL for 5 foot 7 dbs.
