Blue Bombers -- 2025/26 Offseason -- Discussion Thread
GCn20 replied to johnzo's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Nope, leave the ratio alone. My concern is with individual contracts we are signing, not the composition of rosters league wide. If we are signing Ford to Kramdi's contract I have no issues. If we are signing an elite NAT OL for 250k, I got no issues. It's about the amount we are signing guys compared to the average at their position groups. I don't like our GM resetting the market. The history of the SMS has shown that GMs who do that tend to be pretty unsuccessful. It is something we have never done until the past 2-3 years and our rate of decline is tied to it. All I can hope for is that these mind boggling contracts we have seen, not just here but around the league, are because of a big increase to the SMS or we had a heck of a surplus of SMS left from 2025. As I have stated before, if that is the case I reserve the right to walk this back. However, based on what we know RIGHT NOW, KW appears to be overpaying. I love he has committed most of his dollars to NATs, I will give him credit for that. -

I agree. I lived in downtown Calgary for about a year in the early 90's and even then one did not dare walk the 4 blocks to Electric Avenue because of the gangs. I can't imagine it has gotten any better. -

I can only assume that either GMs have lost their marbles this offseason, or there is a BIG SMS increase yet to be announced. It's the only thing that makes sense at this point. -

I wouldn't walk downtown on or near the Stephen Avenue Mall in downtown Calgary at night. It was dangerous 20 years ago when it got dark & workers poured out of the downtown oil & gas skyscrapers using City buses or the C Train. It's even worse now over an even bigger area that includes Olympic Plaza & City Hall. -

Looking at the email address composition in the bluebombers contact page, I would guess it would be wmiller@bluebombers.com 😁 -

I have never understood the angst this tournment causes people when we lose. It's a U20 tournament organizwd by Hockey Canada & promoted by TSN. The Olympics are a different matter. -
Oh hell yeah. Thank you mods and siterunners!

I take it that GCn20 & others here wants to get rid of the ratio so we can stop paying all those annoying Canadians more money than they deserve. That's what it's going to come down to, In order to stop the overpaying, we have to get rid of the ratio so we can sign cheaper American players in their place. Maybe the answer is lowering the ratio to 4 starters? Two? -

And in other news Canada sucking royally in the semi final. Did they just expect to win and not have to do anything. Their defense is f****** atrocious. Now the comedy of errors keeps coming. I need something to cheer about this year and this is f****** driving me bananas. -

Last year we did not play up to our record. Don't have a clue? It's pretty simple math actually. When you grossly overpay at several positions it's poor SMS allocation. That should be obvious to anyone who knows how to add and subtract. As fans who want a winning club, watching a GM overpay is most definitely our concern. Kramdi is a good player but he's not great. Last year he made 140k..this year 180k and by any metric he had an off year last year. How does he get a 40k bump? It makes zero sense. -

My contracts would make more sense. You got his email? 125k less per year than BO and he was MUCH better than BO last year -
That wasn't his fault how he died.

that is one of the strangest decisions on bonus structure ever. Career high in receiving yards is 327, and he’s never hit 1500 rushing. $5,000 for 1,000 rushing yards $5,000 for 1,750 rushing and receiving yards $3,000 for 750 rushing yards $2,000 for 1,500 rushing and receiving yards $2,000 for being named a CFL all-star $2,000 for being named league MOP $1,000 for being named a West Division all-star $1,000 for being named team MOP $1,000 for 500 rushing yards $1,000 for 1,250 rushing and receiving yards -
1 game for 1 punch? Should have been 5 games for 5 punches.

My apologies- the Jets need a helluva lot of improvement.

Between 173-196k depending on bonuses achieved.... -
The artist is based in the UK and it would depend on how well known he is there (they probably associate him most with Spinal Tap hence the Stonehenge even though he has other great films too) even I don't know if they would have had an image of him as Meathead in the crowd

Maybe different circumstances as he was unfortunately murdered

Nobody knows more about elite athleticism than 35 to 70 year old men online who don’t play pro. I also don’t get the hate as he’s a versatile smart starting Canadian. Starting Canadians prob should get paid. I mean it is the Canadian football league. The whining about cap allocation is also hilarious as nobody really has a clue there. There is no cfl salary cap site that updates every 2 hours. I mean. Who cares. It’s really not our concern. -

Does he though? Not trying to be sarcastic, but what's the last play you remember him making? Im not sure those stats are on the side of your argument. It has been difficult watching more wins than losses. -

Thing is when you’re good you don’t get high draft picks. Highest pick was Laine but originally we were supposed to be drafting 7th or so, believe scheif was taken 9th so none of our actually 1sts were less than 7th overall. When you are good those 1sts become later picks and most those guys actually don’t make a difference. If we get a legit top 3 or 5 pick this year that’s our 1st legit top 5 pick since returning. We won Laine. Who is 22 23 on the moose? Expecting 3rd round and later dudes to be top 6 talent is a wild take. Guys with potential on the moose currently are Salo Yager Chibrikov and that’s about it currently but Freij and Sasha are 2 strong D prospects and He and Walton are 2 very good forward prospects. Lambert is a bust. Ford is a 4th liner in the nhl. Reality is when you have a chance and your pick is gonna be between 22 and 32 most years, you trade it. None of the picks we traded have turned into game changers. Management isn’t on the ice. Honestly injuries and just players who appear washed up but what do you do. Do you trade Nyquist Pearson Schenn and miller and the sorts? For what? A bag of pucks cuz none are bringing back a 1st 2nd or 3rd. Bring up the young guys after the trade deadline then go on a roll and **** our chances at a high pick. McKenna Ivar S and the NoDak D are game changers. here’s the problem. We got scheif Connor and Vilardi plus Perfetti when healthy (he’s not) And emerging talent like Morgan Barron but then we got a whole bunch of 4th line guys including the captain Nino Iafallo (that would be the perfect 4th line actually ) Toews Pearson Nyquist and name it really. That’s the problem. We don’t have top 6 talent. We have plenty of 4th line talent. - Yesterday
