Around The NHL 2016/2017

time for a new thread for a new season that begins today. Canada Day. Free Agent Frenzy.

Will the Jets trade Trouba?  Will they resign Scheif to an 8 year deal?

Will Boston, as heavily rumoured, offer sheet Trouba?  What about the rumours of the Jets in a three way deal with Edmonton and Avs?

Stay tuned!

If you're going to be a big mouth you have to expect some blowback

Patrik Elias, the New Jersey Devils' all-time leading scorer, is retiring after a career that spanned almost two decades.

meanwhile the leafs have scored in this game and if they keep this lead by the time the buzzer goes off they are one win away from playoffs, in the meantime they take back that cushy spot that was taken from them by the Ruins

and as I type this they score again the score is 5-3 Toronto over the red wings.

Leafs, Sens, Habs, Oilers and Flames all likely to make playoffs.... Ain't that some ****....

Very disappointed we aren't in the playoffs. How much longer will Jets fans put up with it? Is Chevy under pressure to be active this off season to address team shortcomings? I don't think he can be as inactive as last season. Man, we need defensive help & goaltending.

Overall team D was bad this year. Wasn't one individual position holding us back. Injuries all over played a part, but overall team defense from forwards on down was bad.

This has to be on Maurice...  Jets got into the playoffs on a stretch of wins with Pardy, Stuart, Harrison getting real ice time

Now they are winning with Melchiori, Nogier and, sigh, Stu...

Maurice changes his system when he loses his top 'rushing' Dmen...  the plugs physically can't play his man-on-man D so he draws up a more conservative game - clear the zone, that's it.  Let the speed guys do the rest.

As soon as this team is healthy, he will go back to this man-on-man, run-n-gun whatever and the system will completely fall apart...

and the leafs move closer to a playoff spot

16 teams will qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The format is a set bracket that is largely division-based with wild cards. The top three teams in each division will make up the first 12 teams in the playoffs. The remaining four spots will be filled by the next two highest-placed finishers in each conference, based on regular-season record and regardless of division. It is possible for one division in each conference to send five teams to the postseason while the other sends just three. In the First Round, the division winner with the best record in each conference will be matched against the wild-card team with the lesser record; the wild card team with the better record will play the other division winner. The teams finishing second and third in each division will meet in the First Round within the bracket headed by their respective division winners. First-round winners within each bracket play one another in the Second Round to determine the four participants in the Conference Finals. Home-ice advantage through the first two rounds goes to the team that placed higher in the regular-season standings. In the Conference Finals and Stanley Cup Final, home-ice advantage goes to the team that had the better regular-season record -- regardless of the teams' final standing in their respective divisions.

With BOS going to the playoffs we might get more then a 6th round pick for Stafford. Go Bo!

It's already a 5th now.

4th if the B's win a round.

Marchand suspended for last 2 games.

Yikes!!

you know if a jet caused that spearing, I bet it would have missed the playoffs

well we might as well see little x's on Ottawa and Toronto because there's no way the Isles and TB can catch up

Edited by iHeart

Isles and Tbay can catch the leafs.

Ottawa clinched tho.

Leafs play Pitt and CBJ.

NYI plays NJ and another non playoff team.

Leafs need 1 point in 2 games to clinch.  Isles need to win out and for Toronto to lose their last 2. Tampa beating Toronto tonight  makes things interesting for sure

This can't be true. It implies that 1) Fleury would waive to come here and 2) Chevy is a moron
