Around The NHL 2016/2017

time for a new thread for a new season that begins today. Canada Day. Free Agent Frenzy.

Will the Jets trade Trouba?  Will they resign Scheif to an 8 year deal?

Will Boston, as heavily rumoured, offer sheet Trouba?  What about the rumours of the Jets in a three way deal with Edmonton and Avs?

Stay tuned!

  • Where did Bill get $395 million?!?

  • What an idiot.  I have no patience for things like that.  Should be zero tolerance, 100-game ban for first offence, lifetime for second.  That's not an accident, that's not something that just happens

Anyone can play top 6 on this team and play really bad and get near 20 goals. Ex. Stafford

Whenever people start with "Anyone could...." their opinion is automatically naive, ignorant and invalid.  Do better.

Just swap out anyone with Stafford then.

I'd argue Stafford didn't play "really bad" when he put up 20+ goals.

Stafford is the same player he's always been...  super streaky - he was excited to be a Jet and now he's not

I guess we can say goodbye to stafford or something like that

Winnipeg, Manitoba - New lighting, flooring, ceiling, and signage are all part of new renovations for the MTS Centre scheduled to be completed by late fall of 2017. True North Sports + Entertainment announced today that starting this week, building upgrades will shift from work in the arena bowl to comprehensive renovations in the concourses, and in the Portage Avenue atrium, transforming the overall experience for Winnipeg Jets fans inside the MTS Centre. Additionally, new food and beverage options will be added.

The new colours will emulate the Winnipeg Jets brand colour palette while incorporating an aviation theme of glass, steel, and rivets. The planning for the renovations has been in development for over three years. Norva Riddell, True North's senior vice-president of sales and marketing says, "the 2017 MTS Centre Concourse Renovations Project is a significant upgrade that will be completed in a series of phases over the next several months. During the renovations, True North Sports + Entertainment is committed to keeping fans informed with progress updates on www.winnipegjets.com, social media, and with direct communication to our seat holders."

Estimated at $12 million, the renovations project is fully ownership funded, and represents True North's ongoing commitment to reinvestment in the MTS Centre.

Okay, I'll be that naive guy. Since we are still in the playoff hunt, we use Stafford to get something to help us get there not to unload something for futures right? Or another scenario (unless something changes between now and trade deadline) stay status quo and keep with the guys we have to get us there.

still I would hate to lose him an Myers considering that they are kind of proof that we still won that trade (but even if that isn't the case we still won because we got rid of Kane)

If a team is trading for Stafford, it would mean they are going in for a playoff push, so it is unlikely they are giving up anything that would help us in a playoff push, because they would want to keep that piece.   It would be for futures.  Pick(s) most likely.

If you look at some of the playoff odds sites out there, the Jets have about a 10 - 12% chance of making the playoffs right now.   Trade Stafford for whatever you can get.

'Translation...  we're extending Chevy and Maurice and need a huge distraction from our second garbage season in a row.'

Interesting that $12 million is what Forbe's reports as the Jets' annual profits...  TNSE running a very tight ship, smart business

If you saw the smelly turd the Flames have to play out of (and, more importantly, that the fans have to endure...) you'd just be thankful for the nice barn and worry about the team later..... #OneThingAtATime

Not too mention the progress at True North Square.

I still can't believe we have this to look forward to!!!  Imagine warmish fall gamedays and HOPEFULLY spring playoff hockey pregamming!

So unbelievably jealous....soon enough I'll move home and get to enjoy all that...

Stafford will garner a draft pick that's about it, it's up to Chevy to get the highest pick in return and hopefully a couple of teams want him.

I'd take the Old Jets arena any day if the Jets were in the playoffs every year...

Stafford is an opportunistic finisher.  That's his game.  On the right line he can be effective in that role without hurting the team too much.

My biggest issue isn't how little he does on the ice when he isn't in front of the other team's net (although if he did more it would make his scoring slumps less noticeable), it's that for an opportunistic finisher his conversion rate on chances seems very low.  His 20 goals season should have been a 30 or 40 goal season, but he somehow finds ways to not put the puck in the back of the net just as often as he does.

Anyway, some team will pick him for front line depth in the playoffs.  If the Jets hang on to him with any good offer on the table Chevy's insane.  They've only shown themselves to be buyers one season and they made the playoffs that year, so I'm leaning towards not insane.

Great point.

More dominoes falling as the Hawks trade for Tomas Jurco for a third, Can't see Stafford getting more than a 4th.

this thread is so going to be busy on wednesday
