The lessons that Titanic has to teach us - will.not be learned by viewing the wreck. Auschwitz, on the other hand ..

Search Crews Detect Underwater Noises In Hunt For Missing Submersible

Officials estimate the crew of five trapped inside could run out of oxygen by Thursday morning.

A Canadian aircraft detected underwater noises during the ongoing search for the missing Titan submersible, the U.S. Coast Guard said Wednesday morning.

Rescue crews are desperately searching for the vessel, which vanished midway through an expedition to the wreckage of the Titanic on Sunday morning. Any recovery is a race against the clock, as officials estimate the crew of five trapped inside could run out of oxygen by Thursday morning.
The Coast Guard said remote operated vehicles, or ROVs, were searching for the Titan, a minivan-sized craft, and some had been moved to a new search area after the Canadian plane detected the sounds.

As of 5:00 CDT, more banging noises were detected but the submersible has only 10-12 hours of oxygen left.

Looks pretty bleak for finding the passengers of this submersible alive, more likely this adventure become their coffin.

Sad but true.

At this point, the mission becomes recovery, not rescue.

That, by itself, does not constitute a definitive outcome, but with the elapsed time it does.  It looks like the previously unaddressed concerns doomed the submersible costing lives of innocent people.

BTW: did you know that all of the pools on the Titanic are still filled with water?

Salt water pools.

Gawd damn that's creepily unsettlingly morbid.

If memory serves, Clive Cussler wrote a novel a while back about this kind of scenario.

Reports have the submersible imploding, if they were not already dead the implosion would of been swift in their demise.

I heard it would be microseconds.

I agree with Meta, shouldn’t have to pay. They drive people towards news web sites.

wait that's the issue? CBC and Bell Media is charging meta too much to have their stuff on facebook? social media used to be a fun escape then bigots and people who refused to accept science had to go and ruin it

Conservatives Are Now Blaming The Titanic Sub Tragedy On 'Wokeness'

On Sunday, the submersible Titan went missing far off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada, in the North Atlantic ocean. The tourist expedition, led by OceanGate, a company that runs submersible trips for tourism and exploration, was supposed to take five men to view the shipwreck of the Titanic, nearly 13,000 feet below sea level.

A search for the sub, which included OceanGate Expeditions CEO Stockton Rush onboard, is now over after debris from the vessel was located following an apparent “catastrophic implosion,” the U.S. Coast Guard said Thursday.

As the U.S. and Canadian governments shelled out funds in the rescue and recovery effort, the media reported on a series of safety concerns that most likely led to the sub going missing.

But conservatives had another theory. Could the sub have disappeared because OceanGate’s CEO went “woke”?

Wokeness has become a new boogeyman for the right, and no one is safe — even in a case like this, with five people believed to have lost their lives in the deep sea.

Being woke once meant being aware of social injustices, but conservatives have appropriated it to refer to anything that they disagree with or that has a hint of liberalism. It’s often used as a not-very-subtle replacement for racial slurs.
On Wednesday afternoon, Fox News’ Jesse Watters suggested on the network’s show “The Five” that the men may have perished in the sub because Rush was too woke.

“There’s been lawsuits, there’s been accusations about slashing regulations. He’s quoted as saying he didn’t hire a bunch of 50-year-old white guys with military experience because he didn’t want his vessels to be not inspirational for a younger generation,” Watters said, referring to the OceanGate CEO previously stating that he didn’t want to hire older white men.

Thanks. The title actually was “James Cameron explains what happened with titan”.

And the NY Post ran a story about it too.

The right wing, led by Faux, is so desperately bereft of substance to manufacture rage about that they are seizing on anything, no matter how moronic, to try to create furore.

This is maybe funny but this is true

@Mark H.

"American pig farmers are losing so much money that some may soon start selling the corn they would normally use to feed animals, according to the world’s largest hog producer.

It’s a sign that producers will soon take steps to shrink their herds, with growers losing as much as $80 a head, said Shane Smith, chief executive officer of Smithfield Foods. Demand from top buyer China is waning as the cost to feed animals is surging.

A drought in the Midwest has deteriorated crops, with corn at its worst conditions for this time of year since 1992. That’s squeezing profits and making it more appealing for growers to sell the grain, which has risen more than 20% from its May lows.

“There’s a concentration of people in the industry who grow their own corn, they grow their corn and they feed it to the animal,” he said in an interview Wednesday at the Wall Street Journal’s Global Food Forum in Chicago. “They’re going to have to make a decision. Do I sell my corn and just forget about the animal?”

US growers usually only start shrinking herds when they face cash flow losses, and that is already happening, Smith said. He declined to comment on whether Smithfield, owned by Hong Kong-listed WH Group, is planning to cut back as well.

The US meat market is facing a glut that may take until the end of next year and into 2025 to normalize, he said. That’s all happening just as only 55% of the US corn crop was rated good to excellent, the lowest for this time of year in more than three decades, according to data from the US Department of Agriculture. "

Bloomberg

"a glut" 😂

not based on retail price.

farmers and consumers squeezed.  as usual.

happenwd with cattle in manitoba a while ago, drought,  herds sold off cheap, price to consumer unaffected.

system is wonky.
