Week 11 - Tor.@Ham - Edm.@Cal. Monday Sept. 7

Around the CFL -

You know what can happen this year? A first ever East-to-West crossover. Montreal sits in a position right now to cross over and get the West's 3rd playoff spot position. Since 1996, the first year, the West has "crossed over" 8 times, but never the East.

- In inter-divisional play, the East leads 15 wins to 9.

- For the 1st time in the CFL, the Labour Day games will feature a pair of battles for 1st place in both divisions - Toronto @ Hamilton and Edmonton @ Calgary.

- No first year player is even close to Derel Walker's 3 game total of 31 catches for 472 yards. Only one player (vet) has as many yards in the first 3 games of any season - the Bombers Alfred Jackson -1994.

- Walker's pace could net him 1888 yards. The first year record is 1530 yards by Matt Clark. Walker would have to average 118 yards per game to match this. This seems unlikely to me.

- Games continue to have more points than last year's 45.5 per game. This year is at 49.9. I want to mention that the Bombers are at least a little bit responsible for this - unfortunately, at the receiving end.

- Defensive TDs are at a record pace - 22 in 40 games. Could beat the record of 43 in 2004 by 2 (45)

- third down gambles' success rate have dropped from an 84% in 2013 to 67% this year so far.

- kickers have now made 85.9% of their attempts of 1 pt. converts, compared to 99.4% last year.

- the year-to-date average of penalties per game fell for the 8th straight week.

- there were 18 close games last year (within 1-4 points) There are already 18 close games this year - out of 40. Sask is within 3 of the Bombers record of 9 in 2010.

- Close games? 63% (25 of 40) have not been settled until the final 3:00 - compared to 47% in 2014.

  • You're jealous of BC having a 34 year old QB who threw for 114 yards, threw 2 INT and has a total of 75 pass attempts (including tonight) in 2 seasons in the CFL.

  • I am guessing you mean kickers have made 85.9 % of their one point converts. I don't remember 99.4% field goals being successful last year.    sorry... Accuracy counts.

I never understood why they kept Marsh over Nieswander.... the guy had horse shoes in a few games and nothing much since then. It's not like he's moving the ball and making bad mistakes by forcing the balls down field... he just simply sucks ass.

Popp likes saying "Marsh Madness".

I guess the fact that Alex Brink had beat him for a spot last year should of been an indication.

So will Montreal fans riot since Marsh is on pace for something like 130 yards passing and 3 picks?

Marsh and Beck making Marve look like a decent QB

Marsh is just awful ,  he's lucky that his o line gives him any time... in Winnipeg he would be sacked on every play.

5 ints under 100 yards passing .... how does Marsh not get cut???  This is worse then Brohm !!

I don't get the fascination anywhere with QB's who can't pass.  That said, Montreal's been running the same 4 option plays and screen passes for 3 games.  Bound to have a night like this when you do that.

That's enough for me...  nice to see Popp lose though

The fact that Montreal has been given so many chances to take this game away and couldn't' do it just sucks.   It really hurts our chances of taking over BC...

Can't believe I was on the Marsh bandwagon, just wow.

And Tedford survives to fight another day.

That game was hard to watch

What sucks is both teams have one more win than us.

Yeah, they both didn't look good, did they?

Which makes the 2 games versus the riders must have wins

So after the weekend we could all have 4 wins. We are right there plus we beat bc once already and play them again. BC winning is good for the bombers actually

Beck getting props from the panel...

Yep. Every team seems to recruit/develop good backup QBs except for us.

Beck is 34 years old. Not much more to develope.

#marshatoba #believeinbeck

Beck & Marsh are just as bad as anything we have. I thought straight outta compton's injury was supposed to be short term? What's the deal with him?

Popp is the problem. Only Wettenhall can't or refuses to acknowledge it.

You mean the guy that's taken them to the playoffs for 20 straight years? Shocking that the owner wouldn't get rid of him at the first sign of trouble...

I think the problem in Montreal is when they had Cavillo - especially towards the end o fhis career - they had no 'succession' plan. At one point everyone was thinking McPherson but he showed to be no good. Remember the Eskimos who dominated for so long in the 70's, 80', and 90's? They dominated because they always had a succession plan at QB. It wasn't until the 90's started and they started bringing in bums like Archer that the mighty Eskimo's fell to earth, and didn't really turn it around until they got Ricky Ray.

Montreal (and Popp) lived in the here and now. Heel - I get what you're saying but when you have one of the greatest QB's of all time playing for you and are able to hire a decent coach(es), in an 8 team league (mostly) it's kind of hard not to miss the playoffs. Not saying Popp is a Joe Mack - and not saying at one point at time he wasn't good - but everyone eventually gets 'comfortable' and that looks like Popp to me. Yes, he has taken them to the playoffs many times, but his shelf life in Montreal is bast the best before date now and that franchise won't dominate again until he's gone.

I just don't understand why they abandoned the run when Sutton had like 70 yards in the first quarter?

Also why wasn't Marsh pulled he was god awful. Why not throw Bridge in for a series?

Did BC win because of what Beck did or didn't do? Or did they win because of the suckiness of Montreal's QBing?

John Beck - 14-22 for 114 yards. 2 interceptions ---- Tanner Marsh - 16-30 for 103 yards. 5 interceptions, 1 fumble

Andrew Harris 21 carries for 65 yards -------- Tyrell Sutton 7 carries for 88 yards

This game showed that, although not possible, it was quite deserving that both teams should have lost. Nobody should have benefited from that performance. Think of poor S. Logan who had a dynamic return game of 246 yards that should have helped any team win...but no, poor QBing can kill you. And where have I seen that before?
