Bombers interested in Jasper Simmons, UPDATE: Signed to PR

@SUNMitchell: The problem with trying to trade Jasper Simmons is there isn't much of a market for import linebackers. Even BC has depth they like. #CFL

@garrettbillan1: @SUNMitchell I'd like to see the Bombers move Hurl into a role player instead of starting. Move Bass to MLB and trade for Simmons.

@garrettbillan1: @SUNMitchell Would Huff do Greaves/Neufeld for Simmons and a 1st or 2nd rounder?

@SUNMitchell: @garrettbillan1 Funny you ask because the two teams I heard connected were Bombers and Riders.

@SUNMitchell: @garrettbillan1 I doubt they'd give up a high pick like that. They're looking for OL depth for sure though.

@garrettbillan1: @SUNMitchell have u heard what the Bombers might be offering?

@SUNMitchell: @garrettbillan1 Don't know if it even got to the point of an offer. Yet.

  • Randle as linebacker is a result of the evolution of CFL offences.  I blame Flutie/Calgary using 6 receiver sets back in the 90's.  Traditional linebackers got exposed as too slow to cover receivers,

Bilukidi is also 325 pounds so good luck playing in a CFL defence right away

Khalif Mitchell... Yeah he was definitely 300+. More of the exception than the norm, though. Maybe Bilukidi can play at that weight but I imagine he would trim down if he knew he was going to be in the CFL next year.

Not too big a problem.  You just rotate him out frequently and have a few strategically located oxygen tanks on the field.

Weighs far less than that. Moved to end this year.

WINNIPEG, MB., August 20, 2015 –  The Winnipeg Blue Bombers announce today the club has added international linebacker Jasper Simmons to the practice roster. Simmons was most recently with Calgary, playing in four games this season.

Simmons  (6-1, 225, Missouri, August 20, 1989, in Pensacola, Florida) has played in 26 career CFL games, starting 16. He was Ottawa's nominee for two CFL awards in 2014 - Most Outstanding Player and Most Outstanding Defensive Player. Simmons finished the 2014 season with a team-leading 80 defensive tackles (4th in the CFL), three interceptions, and one forced fumble. He also tallied seven special teams tackles.

A four-year CFL veteran, Simmons began his career with Toronto in 2012.

Funny, no mention of ever being with the Stamps. #expunged ;)

I'm sure he'll be happy hanging out on our practice roster.

Ha,ha. Missed it. Joke's on me. :)

fan poll cfl.ca biggest hitter

leader is Khalil Bass 46 % of 12000 votes.

you know what that poll proves... only Bomber and Rider fans are voting... I'm not sure what's more laughable... Elimimian and Bighill combining for only 7% of the vote or Brackenridge getting 37% of votes....

It was the same for the 'best hands' poll. Dressler won over Denmark with S.J. Green getting less than 10% of the vote.

SJ Green has awful hands. The fact that him and Bowman were even in that poll was laughable.

Should we change the title of the thread or is signing Simmons to the PR still a sign of interest? ;)

Okay.

Simmons complained about playing time then traded a full paycheck for a PR paycheck and his agent's crowing about it.

He'll be off the PR within a week...

My guess is there's 2 contracts in Walters drawer. The PR one and the regular one that'll come into effect next week. Knowing O'Shea, he'll want to talk to the player who is coming off the roster/going on the IR in person before Simmons is officially added.

I got the impression after talking with his agent today that the contract Simmons has only goes until the end of the year. Could be wrong, because I didn't ask outright.

Well, the good thing is we have him here right now so if he works out we have a leg up on the other guys looking at him. Should we get him to play which is what he wants things should work out for next year.

I can confirm with 100% certainty that the suggestion of Simmons only signing with the Bombers for the rest of this season is incorrect.
