Blue Jays

Anyone else following them as intently as I am right now? They are on fire after the trade deadline moves.

I'm a little concerned that AA left the minor league pitching cupboards a little too bare, especially with the Price trade. Even though they gave up the guys with the highest potential in Hoffman and Castro, I think the return was worth it, since Reyes had regressed so quickly. In getting Price though, AA gave up a couple of guys who would likely have been solid starters in a year or two in exchange for a rental. A very good rental, but a rental none the less. Without the Price move, I'm not sure if the Tulo and Revere moves alone would have provided the morale boost and buzz that we're seeing now that could propel them into the playoffs.

The positive thing is that we have most of our current position players returning next year, which will ensure very good defensive play and offensive continuity, but it will be a challenge to pull together a complete starting rotation and bullpen without being pretty active in free agency. Pitchers currently on the roster who they have no control over include Estrada, Buhrle, Price, Hawkins, and Lowe.

Yankees fan....yeah, that's real original......maybe the worst, most detested-with-good-reason, franchise in all of pro sports. Poaching for decades...

They have changed there game plan the last few years and have some of the best prospects in baseball after shedding some more salary this off season they just need to as you say "poach" a couple in the coming years, maybe even a certain Silver Slugging Blue Jay ^_^

All you guys who pull for the Jays better hope that they pony up big time before he becomes a free agent in a year or two cause my Yanks will if he becomes available.

Clint Frazier will probably be up by then.

If Aaron Judge can control his strike outs he and Frazier should both be on the team in 2 years.

Torres is the one to watch leading the AFL in hitting as a 19 year old would be the youngest to do it.

Don't know much about him only that he came over in the Chapman, played A ball might need to follow a little more closely.

Yeah he is the one to watch. Cubs were set up the middle so could move but he is going to be really good.

blue jays sign DH kendrys morales to a 3 year 33m deal. Had around an OPS of 800 last year with 30 homers. almost 850 the previous year with 21 homers. Big bat, stays pretty healthy, not getting younger but a good replacement bat.

The fact we brought him in and hes a DH only probably means we only keep 1 of bautista/EE. And probably EE, whose still a good 1st basemen when joey bats really needs to go to DH to extend what time he has left.

Don't think Bautista is going to come back anyways EE will come back if they give me want he wants, looks like a preemptive strike in case he leaves. Good signing over all IMO.

Pretty much. Tbh id rather cut bautista loose then give him a ton of cash. Its just too much risk. It would be great to have a real lead off hitter, then donaldson, then EE and morales hitting 4th.

Blue jays also reportedly signed  Lourdes Gurriel Jr. The 6th ranked international prospect cuban 2b. He has the tool set to play In field or out field but 2b is where hes played his pro ball in cuba. Hes 23, and supposed to start at AA as a 2b men. They gave him a 7 year 22m dollar deal. He swung the bat well in his last 2 years. His last year OPSing at an over 900 clip.

I really want Bautista to sign in Texas and then back peddle every day he's there ;)

jays added steve pierce a right handed guy who mashes lefties. 2 years 12.5m might be a platoon player with smoak might be more. really good pick up.

Super utility guy can play every where except C CF and SS. Typical Jays cheap out with a bunch of pieces and not go and resign your power hitting middle of the line up bat.

Well, looks like my Blue Jays interest will top out at 2 years.

What a shame. I like Donaldson. But the rest of this lineup is going to be meh

The Blue Jays have done so well filling Rogers Centre and there TV numbers were huge but there off season decisions could undo all that.

I'm willing to give them more time and see what the rest of the offseason holds. The arms are still going be really good next year...

I'm fine with them going back to sucking and people jumping off the bandwagon. Hate Rodgers.

Edwin signs 3 years 60 million with the Indians.  Option for 4th year. So basically 4 yrs 80 million or basically what the Jays offered him months ago.

Clearly didn't want to be back...whatever.

Blue Jays made a very good offer his agent rejected it and the Jays moved on signing other players, maybe they sign Bautista now which would be a mistake.

That's not what I've read happened. They turned the Jays down originally b/c they thought they could get more. The Jays moved on and spent that money elsewhere. By the time EE & and his agent realized they couldn't get more, the Jays money was gone and he had to go elsewhere.

At least that's what Steve Phillips & Bruce Arthur are saying. Most of what I've read was that he wanted to be back. Seems like his agent misread the market and the Jays mgmt moved on too quickly.

Yeah, both sides made mistakes. Jays moved to quickly and might have overpaid for Morales, given the market. And EE misread the market and might have left money on the table.

Well at least he didn't sign with a team in the same division.
