The building inspectors in Calgary (and probably Alberta) are spread very thin. Friends of ours bought a brand-new expensive home in the Evergreen area of Calgary. They soon noticed that the dryer wasn"t working properly, so Bob followed the dryer vent duct all the way up to the attic. He was stunned to see that the duct was not connected to any vent, but just dumped onto the insulation, lying there pumping all the dryer moisture into the attic. Bob called the city inspector who told him to call the builder who told him to call the mechanical contractor who told him to call the new home warranty program and no one accepted responsibility or offered to fix it.

The building inspector told Bob that they had 20 minutes to inspect every home, and that included travel time. Bob eventually gave up in disgust and put his own vent cap in. He went up the street and told all his neighbours- every one of the 21 other homes had the same deficiency and none were fixed by the builder.

gotta wonder what Danielle Smith is thinking right now.   What the political picture would look like had she stayed with Wild Rose over going to the PC's.   Clearly Albertans were in the mood for a change, and perhaps it could of been her had she not jumped ship.

If she and the rest of them hadn't crossed the floor they'd have won the election without question. People got fed up with the PCs and their arrogance and corruption but no one trusted the Wild Rose after that floor crossing. The Liberals were in shambles as well, the only protest vote was to the NDP. They best tread lightly though. They won a lot of seats by the right splitting a vote, if the right gets behind one party or the other it will swing back. 

 

 

I am so disappointed in this province. Seen the NDP **** up Manitoba, don't want to see the same out here. 

What happens to the rest of Canada when Alberta becomes a have not province?

You're very correct. The right vote split opened the door in many ridings.

They still would have won Edmonton but in general that's how they won. You add the pc and wildrose votes together and the ndp don't win. One of them has to go.

You guys voted in the NDP? NOW?! Oh man. An economy on the downswing does not need the NDP. Holy ****. Good luck Alberta.

However...isnt the NDP fundementally opposed to fracking and the oil sands?  How will they handle that?  Are they going to deliberately sabotage that industry?  Will they use up all the profits on social programs and turn the economy into a have-not?

 

I understand the idea of a protest vote but isnt this cutting off your nose to spite your face?  Wouldnt the smart thing have been a minority government?  What damage will the NDP do in four years?

They say they want to diversify the province And avoid the boom or bust.

I hope they don't sabotage he oilsands. Although the for sure will be putting the west pipeline on hold.

And ya, at least one candidate said she opposed fracking.

Although I love Justin's new tax plan that saves me a whopping $800 a year but does nothing for poorer people.  I guess Im rich.

The scariest part to me is how the NDP figures they should build refineries in Alberta and keep jobs local. It shows a complete and utter lack of understanding of the industry, but it's so typically NDP. Invest massive amounts of money into a low profit industry. Talk about a money pit. People actually believe that only "rich people" are going to see their taxes go up, hah! Not to mention that the oil industry doesn't take kindly to higher royalties and taxes, they'll play hard ball which affects the working stiffs in this province. The people who voted for them deserve this, I just hope they **** things up so badly in the next few years they render themselves un-electable ever again. 

It's been depressing to see what the NDP have done in Manitoba and I certainly hope the same doesn't happen here. The talk I've been hearing that the Alberta NDP are not like the NDP out East. I guess time will tell.

yes and no.  One could argue the Doer NDP was vastly different than the Selinger NDP.  But the last thing we need is a federal change in government.  Shudder at the thought of Justin as PM.

Well you will never change your mind and I will never change your mind so it's rather moot.  But i'd vote for Harper 100 times if I could.  Absent the boogyman stories, his government has been good for the country.  Even when they do things I dont agree with, such as lowering the GST, it was what he promised to do so he did it.

Any stats to back that up? Manitoba has one of the strongest economies in the country. The recession barely hit us.

There is definitely a fine line between being business friendly and bending over. What you're implying that the teachers get, is exactly what people are saying…that they wish they were big business…'cause they are being taken care of. Big business will use you, and when they see fit, leave you holding the empty money bags.

Anyways, none of that has happened yet in Alberta, so the fear is worse than the reality…so far.

This is basically what I'm hanging on to. Doer was great...the province was great. Selinger just ****** everything up. The NDP, as a party, aren't necessarily the boogey man, as Doer's NDP proved.

Not to nit-pick, nor to come out as pro-NDP (though I did vote for them I've very cautiously optimistic), but I'm not sure you could do any better than being a teacher now in Alberta. The starting wage is close to 6 figures and the union is very strong.
