I think what this case shows is the divide between how two types of people view criminals. Some people want to place the blame on the factors that lead a person to do things while others think that the person is ultimately responsible for their actions and should be held accountable. It's seen in other areas too, specifically how much the left really hates the Conservatives tough on crime stance.

As for people like Ezra Levant, you have to keep in mind that media is all about entertainment and these guys definitely do play characters. No one wants to pay attention to the normal always sensible people, the types that grab attention are the bold and outrageous people making strong statements that people can either say "******* right! Tell it like it is!" or they can say "what a total ******* moron, I can't believe this idiot believes this crap"

I think any reasonable person believes the answer lies somewhere in between your two statements. It's not so black and white. The Conservative battle cry "They must be held responsible!!!" is just as absurd as the Trudeau mantra "We have to understand WHY those terrorists murdered so many people"

Ezra Levant, even-keeled?  You must be joking.  He is the biggest clown in Canadian media.  You've gotta be leaning pretty damn far to the right if you agree with anything he says.

Try watching his his stuff this week on Kadr and the election.  Its easy to paint people in generalities without actually looking at specifics

If this is the video that you're referring to as even-keeled then you have a serious problem.  At least kelownabomberfan had a valid excuse!

Please examine Levant's language, he frames Khadr's name with the following to stir up negative emotions.

"convicted murderer"

"war criminal"

"convicted terrorist"

"confessed murderer"

"confessed terrorist"

"muslim nazi" (twice)

"hates Jews and wants to kill them and other westerners"

"like Paul Bernardo"

Ezra is not a legitimate journalist, he is a propagandist.

Please examine the circumstances of Khadr's detention and conviction before jumping to simple conclusions.

There is still no proof that Khadr killed anyone. The soldier who claimed it was Khadr said it was because there was no one else there who could have thrown the grenade which was later proven to be wrong - there was someone else there.

And please don't use the documents he signed as proof. I doubt you would find anyone who wouldn't sign them after being held at Gitmo for 8 years without charge.

The thing that bothers me about Harper is how he tries to interfere with independent and arms-length agencies. There are plenty of examples of his minions trying to influence things. If he can't influence them then he fires them. Howard Sapers is the latest example: http://m.thestar.com/#/article/news/canada/2015/04/15/government-refuses-prison-watchdogs-request-for-another-term.html?referrer=

And I agree with that. You do need to ultimately address the underlying causes, but you also need to hold people responsible for their actions.

And here's loony Liz making all of those saps in Victoria who voted for her feel so proud...

Green Party Leader turned the air blue during an unusual speech in which she proclaimed her support for Omar Khadr and tossed an F-bomb at the government at the Parliamentary Press Gallery's dinner in Ottawa Saturday night.

"Who knew Khadr is spelled K-H-A-D-R," she said in her speech that's been posted on YouTube.

"Welcome back, Omar Khadr. It matters to say it. Welcome back, Omar Khadr, you're home."

By this time Transport Minister Lisa Raitt is trying to get May away from the podium and the microphone.

May did leave but not before taking a potty-mouthed parting shot at the government: "Omar Khadr, you've got more class than the whole f---ing cabinet."

What the hell? Since when as a politician is that appropriate behaviour? Any way she could get fined for this?

It's OK if you are a Green Party politician. They can do whatever they want. The NDP operate under similar rules.

Yeah, acting in an inappropriate manner - totally foreign to the likes of the PCs and the Liberals.

It's not foreign. What I meant was that Elizabeth May can get away with acting that stupid in public and the leftist media will just ignore it, or worse, make excuses for it. And that's a double-standard.

But what I'm saying is; what you say the leftist media ignores, happens by the 'rightist' media who will ignore whomever it is, who does their stupid act in public.

It's the same thing from all sides.

It's mostly all bullfrog.

That is not the video.  Also most of those descriptions are perfectly reasonable to be applied to Khadr.  But this is one of those issues where neither of us will convince the other.  If the left wanted to make an issue of the conviction, that would be one thing, but they hold this guy up as some sort of wonderful example of humanity.  He is a terrorist.  Even the nutjob Elizabeth May remarked that in Canada "people get a second chance" in talking about Khadr.  If she feels he needs a second chance, ie. he did something wrong, it's very telling of the far left and their disconnect with average Canadians who want tougher sentences for teenage car thieves, let alone a terrorist.

Practically before May finished her ignorant (drunken?) diatribe, there were excuses being made in the media.  The best part was that those excuses were beat by seconds by other commentators speculating as to which excuse she'd use.  Turned out she was tired.  Then it was tired and trying to be funny.  Im not sure it rises to the level of demanding her resignation but if I was a member of her party I sure would but I suspect members of her party applaud this stuff.

It's not just what they "ignore", it's the insane reaction to any perceived grievances committed by Harper, and to a lesser extent Trudeau, and the free passes given to the NDP and the Greens.  If Trudeau or Harper had been on stage, drunk and dropping F bombs at a media dinner, the Toronto Red Star and Pravda and Mail would be plastering their front pages all about how they should be resigning.  All I see in the CBC today are the excuses for May's idiotic behavior.  That's just not right.  They should be calling on her to resign, and rightly so.  It's time for May, and hopefully the entire Green Party, to go bye-bye.

I have no doubt she was just repeating nonsense that she was told while in her riding by fellow lunatic Green Party boneheads.  It was a sad day when that woman finally found a riding in Canada dumb enough to elect her, because now as a taxpayer I am paying her salary, and I find that repulsive.  Maybe she should move back to the USA, her homeland, where filthy language spewed in public forums is more accepted.  This is Canada Lizzie.  Yankee go home.

"I am not denying that … but primarily, it was just whatever wine the waiters serve at our table. I hadn't had drinks before or after, so I don't think that was a factor, but obviously that is what people are saying online."

The next morning, she got up and went to church, she pointed out.

"I had no problems with my day, so I think it was just the general problem of sleep deprivation, and attempts at humour that… didn't work. What can I say — I'm a politician, not a comedian, and that went very badly."

Hopefully she didn't drop as many F-bombs at church the next day.
