Chatter on Twitter this morning is that the talks between Winnipeg and Buffalo for Kane are really heating up.

 

It may be spiteful, but I'd much prefer to see Kane get traded to a rebuilding team like Buffalo then get rewarded and traded to a contending team in the off season.

 

Of course the best deal for the Jets trumps all that....

Wonder if they contemplate moving the pick or Myers for more forward help.

I think I like it. There's a lot to digest in this trade.

I would have made this trade two weeks ago BEFORE the Kane fiasco What a great trade for the Jets future and more importantly this playoff run! Myers and the other Sabres go from no hope to the ring of fire of the Jets playoff chase.

Bittersweet for Bogo I would guess.  He moves home but out of the playoffs.  Kane probably thinking be careful what you wish for.

Supposedly Vancouver was in on Kane and the Jets called them this morning to say they had a bigger deal.

 

I dont think Jets are done.  They need one more forward piece, especially if you want Buff back on D.  We need a top 9 LW.

Joel Armia has legit top 6 potential. He's very highly skilled, 30+ goal potential in a full time role. Near NHL ready too.

 

Brenden Lemieux is Claude's son. Plays like him too. Very much a pest, but he's only 20 and nowhere near NHL ready. Yet. Current comparable seems to be Andrew Shaw.

Armia is compared to Selanne.  Lemieux is either a bottom six or mid six, depending on what you read.  Plays tough.  Under-rated offensive upside.  Coached by hawerchuk in Barrie.  Jets will surely know exactly what Lemieux is (surely called Dale on it).

Interesting that 1290 guys speculating that Stafford re-signs here but Myers moves on. 

 

Stafford is from Faribult, Minnesota (just outside Minneapolis).

if armia is ready for fourth line that would be amazing - but I don't think we see him until next year

I really doubt we get rid of Myers.

 

Everyone wants to **** on him for being awful but let's face it. He's logging HEAVY minutes in a defensive black hole. Buffalo fully intends to be terrible. I'm sure once you put Myers in our system, he's going to look a lot more like what he did before Buffalo went in the shitter.

Biggest blockbuster I've seen in quite some time.

 

We lose two very good but controversial players and pick up some very interesting pieces.  Curious to see how this plays out.

Anyone know payroll details now?

There was a tweet I saw earlier that said our payroll has gone down with this trade.  Especially with Buffalo retaining half of Stafford's salary.

 

I do know Myers contract was front loaded, so we get a deal on the money we pay him starting next year or the year after.   Since we aren't a cap team, this is a great deal for us.

 

Frees up some cash to sign / re-sign some other players.

Three years left on Myers. Stafford is a pending UFA. Armia is in his last year of his rookie deal.
