Next: Who is going to FA, who is not .... Priorities

Now that the other shoe has finally dropped with the signing of Hall, what does Walters have to get done in the next month before the free agency lottery starts?

Which Bombers have decided to test the NFL possibilities?

Which Bombers are just trying to maximize their negotiating power?

Is Heenan really available?

Is Brohm gone?

Which veterans are lurking out there for us?

  • I asked Ed Tait - the reason he listed Kurt Goodrich on that article is because the Bombers asked him to. He'll be in camp. Great news.

  • What makes you think we even get a chance to match a better offer?  Say Sask throws down 250 and we offer 260, Taman says "275 if you sign right now."  Maybe we are willing to best 275 and maybe we ne

They've got a rotational rb ranked first, with a 28 yr old two time league all-star at LT ranked 6th.   There may be some flaws in that list...

The entire league had trouble bringing in good receivers last season. Unless I'm missing somebody, AJ Guyton was the leading rookie receiver with 400 yards.

Eric Rogers looks like a stud.

Ottawa CUT Rogers!! Do you believe that? Way to go Desjardins & Campbell. Nice job. Well done considering their receiving corps absolutely sucked last season. (Slow clapping of hands by smirking CFL fans of other teams). Have to wonder how other teams missed this guy as well & yet the best team in the CFL picked him up. Led to the ultimate trade of Mo Price to the redblacks.

@PentonKirk: Talked to #Bombers GM Kyle Walters today. He's "cautiously optimistic" a deal with LB Johnny Sears will get done before Tues.

@PentonKirk: Walters is not as hopeful about getting a deal done with QB Brian Brohm before Tuesday. #Bombers

@PentonKirk: Sears and Brohm are the only two potential #Bombers free agents Walters is talking to right now. #Bombers

@PentonKirk: That means all other FAs, including Glenn January, is not in #Bombers plans. I guess you never say never, though.

Not a January fan but how can you not sign an FA olineman? It's still our biggest problem is it not?

If Brohm wants to leave there's the door & good luck. He'll need it.

Plan is to replace him with Bryant or SirVincent. Either would be an upgrade. January is on the decline.

Have to sign one of those 2 first which may not be easy. There'll be plenty of teams throwing money & promises to them (like Ottawa) out there. I'd bring January back. Why not? Let him compete for a spot.

Even though I thought he was very average last year I'm a little surprised that Desia Dunn isn't in our plans whatsoever.

Janaury was atrocious last year and I have zero interest bringing him back in any capacity.

If we end up with none of Bryant, Rogers, or even Edwin Harrison, we are in trouble.

January played hurt for most of the season, but it looks like he has passed his "best before" date.

Bombers like Jace Daniels at LT. He looked very good there last year.

He didn't look very good. He looked okay. To me, he has potential but he wasn't great. He had his good moments & bad.

I agree with iso... Looked okay, not great. Besides, Daniels barely started any games, who knows how he will perform next year. And we still need a right tackle, unless we are content with Devin Tyler and Cordaro Howard.

I think January may get a call if they strike out on Bryant and Rodgers. They however may feel he's on the decline, too injury prone or too beat up physically.

Quite honestly if one of Rogers / Bryant isn't a Bomber I'll be shocked. At this point, I'm expecting us to go after those two and Jackson. Maybe Wojt but who knows what his deal is, his camp has been incredibly quiet.

How about Bakari Grant? Coming off a down year but in 2013 he had over 900 yards. Big guy, lots of experience. Certainly a lot more proven than Ernest Jackson at this point.

He'd certainly be an upgrade over Romby/Kelly but I prefer Jackson for his size and his history with Willy.

I could see us going after Jackson to fill in Watson's role. Big Physical SB, and have JFG and Kohlert in the two WR spots.

I have made it known I'm not a huge supporter of signing an Import rec. this year though. We have what looks like a solid group of Imports already on the roster.

As far as Imports go, I can see us going after Curran or Peters as well those already mentioned.

I don't think JFG has the skill set to play WR.

If, in 3 days, we sign 1 FA, I'd consider that just filling the roster with a player we could get and, depending on who it is, I'd me mildly content.

If we sign 2 players in FA, again, depending on who it is, I'd consider that a day's work.

3 players and I would be impressed.

4 players would be serious business and a major roster move.

Curran, Bryant/Rogers OL, Jackson, Hurl/NI, Peters, to name a few.

Oh, and our own Johnny Sears please.

*Completely misplaced the signing of Picard so far, so I guess that makes me mildly content already.

Really good article in today's Freep by Ed Tait:

Walters would not offer any specific hints as to who the club would target -- that would constitute tampering, after all -- but he did say the club has made offers to quarterback Brian Brohm and linebacker/defensive back Johnny Sears, Jr. (who is close to returning) -- two of the team's 11 prospective free agents.

The others, including offensive linemen Glenn January, Dan Knapp and Gord Hinse, receivers Romby Bryant, Aaron Kelly and Brett Carter, running back Carl Volny, defensive back Desia Dunn and linebacker Mike Cornell -- all seem destined to hit the open market next week.

And TSN ranks the top 20 pending free agents:

Somewhat surprising to see January and Kelly in that list.

And no SirVincent on the list??

Why not resign Brett Carter?

In my eyes Desjardins is the wild card in free agency this year, doesn't seem like Ottawa has done near enough to improve their club over this off-season through conventional methods so it looks like they will key on free agents.  If Marcel is in the mood to spend the idiotic amounts of money he reportedly offered Dressler last year on O-linmen and receivers the Bombers may have to to offer unprecedented sums to acquire assets or settle for crumbs that fall off the bidding table.  As the cream of the free agency crop is quickly evaporating, I'm not sure it's worth over-bidding to acquire any of the players now heading towards free-agency.  If they can be picked up at a fair market price great, but it may be wiser to hold money in reserve for NFL rejects or the hopeful return of one of the long awaited like Bilkudi, Mulamba, et all.
